**Gigabyte Super OC GTX 480's - VERY LOW PRICES!**

Well i also bought one of these cards and i cant run OCCT without errors. Also had a couple of crashes in Metro 2033 after about an hours play with artifacts before the crash.

But heaven seems to run without a problem, i was looking for artifacts last night and thought i saw one or two but they were over so fast i was never 100% sure if it.

I'd love to RMA it to gigabyte in the hopes of getting a 580 but as it stands, i have a feeling that it will pass thier tests and i'd have to foot the bill for the return postage and possibly the testing costs as well!

Gigabyte don't charge for the first RMA. If you really think that your card is faulty, then RMA.

Try resetting the card to stock speeds of a GTX480 and see if you can run OCCT without errors. If you can, then your card is probably dead

Thought I would add to the debate with my findings with the 480 SOC received last week:

  1. The SOC wrongly boots at default 480 speeds when the default (blue) BIOS is used i.e. 700/1400/1848
  2. Boots into SOC clocks when using LN2 (red) BIOS fine
  3. All of the power usage LEDs always remain on. I understand they should fluctuate when in low 2d mode (I think this is a driver issue)
  4. OC Guru doesnt monitor the voltages and cannot start in 'green' mode (again I believe this to be driver related)
  5. SOC artefacts and returns 500+ errors in OCCT (version 3.0.1) after 5 mins when running stock volts (1025mV), this is reduced when upping volts to 1040mV to 120+ errors after 5 mins, haven't (yet) tried upping the volts further.
  6. I believe the old OCCT v3 to be outdated and inaccurate so when running the latest beta OCCTv4.b05 it returns 1 error after 6 mins. It runs fine and error free when upping the volts to 1038 mV at SOC clocks after 6 mins.
rjkoneill recommended I use the new version of Furmark as a better benchmark using the xtreme burning mode to test stability/artefacting.

Guess what, FurMark 1.9.0 runs without artefacting for 10 mins at stock volts (SOC clocks) which is great news! Does get a little toasty though at 94degC!

No artefacts noticed whilst gaming (Warhead, Crysis 2 & BFBC2) which is good, again at stock volts and SOC clocks.

This just proves to me that OCCT really is outdated and is not to be taken seriously!

I might have considered RMAing the card given that it boots incorrectly but sadly I snapped off the small BIOS LED button cap from the card whilst attempting to install the GPU with my hamfisted mits! Both the LED and BIOS still work fine without the cap, but in doing so I killed my own chances of a possible RMA with OcUK or Gigabyte.:(

Card still works fine and is FurMark and gaming stable so musnt grumble! :D

If the card isn't stable in any real-world applications then I would RMA. Last time I left an artefacting card it ****ed up badly and literally melted. I have no idea how!
It was a Dell though!
Any chance of a pic of the damaged BIOS LED button?

got a set of Gentle Typhoons arriving tomorrow - including a side exhaust

will be interesting to see if temps of the 480 SOC improve

although today - with lower ambient/room temps - temps were better anyway

I think the key with these 3rd party cooled cards is removing the heat from the case - in my case I think it was a bit stagnant

and your PSU?

Here you go, excuse the dust :o:

Perhaps with Gigabyte I could, but not with OcUK now that I have posted my sins on here for all to see! :D

Don't think I will bother though as card seems ok, despite BIOS LED damage and incorrect BIOS booting quirk (pre-damage I hasten to add....)
