**Gigabyte Super OC GTX 480's - VERY LOW PRICES!**

I wouldn't accept a 570 over a 480 - but thats just me

one of the reasons I bought the 480 was for the 1.5GB of 384bit VRAM

I upgraded from a 570 lol

YMMV

Agreed the 570 will age quicker than the 480 due to the Vram but thats only IMO

This is what I'm thinking too... I'm over the phone and emails all morning. They're helpful and supportive in my case, but not very willing to accept the obvious... that they 480 socs just don't behave... ;)

get them to give you a 480SE ;) mine is running fater than a SOC and rock solid :D

Right... well, the only reason I would ever consider a 570oc replacement is 480soc's heat and noise. My computer room is not air-conditioned (yet) and there are times while gaming that I sense a blast of heat coming from underneath my desk, with 480soc hitting some tropical 93oC @ 100% fan speed.

So, may be this offer would be a good opportunity... don't know yet though, still negotiating...

93c @ 100% fan !!!!!!! WT*

Seriously i can hit 82c with 40% fan but never any higher if i run 100% fan then i get low 70's and its clocked higher than a SOC....... up to you but i would not take the 570 personally still a nice card but will just lack the punch

Not only that, but please consider that I also have a 12cm @ 1800rpm side fan blowing directly to the GPU... no difference. Oh well, there is difference... noise!!

And also notice that I run a dual monitor setup. Nvidia chipsets hate it...

i would imagine that dual monitors makes a fair difference but 93 on a single is a bit hot, has any one taken the heatsink off and refitted it with new paste ? just wonder if this is a likely cause ?

I think that's precisly the issue. But OCuk don't think it's at fault because they have had others back at that temp...or could it be that they were sent back because they were faulty? Hmmm

Anyway I think you might be on dodgy ground with the warranty if you start "fixing" the cards.

What voltage and clock speed are you running at ?

Has anyone done anything to move heat away from the rear side of these cards ? Its all fine blowing 3 fans on the GPU but what about its backside ?

The first GTX280's were a bit toasty but at least they had a rear heat plate to disapate heat better.

I also had one of these on a 4870 Thermalright HR-11 which reduced the heat a lot and positioned so it stuck up in front of the rear 120mm fan so air being extracted would pass through the fins.

Pity they don't make it anymore.

Yeah but my old artifcating 480 soc topped out at a very maximum of 90 degrees, but thats spikes really, OCCT ran it at 88 degrees average for over 20 minutes. A lot of other people are running that "cool" as well.

Yes you are right re applying the paste would technically invalidate your warrenty, how ever unless you have Giant kebab eating hands and are attackng the screws like a idiot you should be able to get the cooler off and re apply some paste without any one noticing, Im not saying you should do this but it may well cure the problem if this is the case

You have to be careful with the screws though especially if they are painted as the screwdriver can leave marks that show tampering and hence invalidate warranty.

Sounds like the "cherry picked GPU's claim on the SOC's is rubbish.

For comparison my referance Asus 480 is rock solid at stock voltages @ 840 Core and 4000 Memory. IIRC it was similar before i changed the cooler.

My card does get into the 90's in Kombustor at the above o/c but in games and windows its nice and cool. The Zalman cooler is EPIC IMO, and my case airflow is good.

Seems like the 480SE is the smart buy if your not feeling lucky!:(

Hope everyone their issues sorted satisfactorily.:)
