OK they are sending a GTX 580 OC, you were right.... That will do me Almost feel like i deserve it after all the messing with the thing to try and get it to work properly!
Not sure they will release such a heavily clocked SOC again.
I've just bought one of these to replace my MSI 460 HAWK and I'm WELL impressed. 50%+ performance improvement (synthetic and games) and while idle temps around the same.... the load temp on the Gigabyte 580 OC is actually slightly lower! (IE. not even broken the 60C barrier after a 30 minute run of OCCT). As to noise. Even with the case open I can't hear it under load. Pretty impressive eh!?! When I moved to a Lian Li case (all Aluminium) I had to set up a custom profile to keep the fan on the 460 HAWK at (or under 50%) to keep it as quiet as I wanted. Can't say that I had noticed the fan on the 460 before when I had a double skinned steel/plastic case. Just goes to show how subjective etc. noise levels are. Though I did a SB re-build which also quietened things (the Gelid is amazing for the money) and this allowed me to cut the case fans to 75%. Classic case of hearing the noisiest part and when that's removed, you here the next noisiest etc. etc.
mine gets too loud under load. I can hear it over my fans. Not as loud as the 480 but not amazing either. Will be liquid cooling in two weeks
I'm genuinely surprised at that!
Is yours the SOC, or the OC? or do you have yours OC'd?
After 1/2 an hour of FURMARK, it's hitting 54C and fan at 45% and if it put my ear to the side of the case, I can just about hear it over the other fans (which are all pretty quiet). I wonder if there's and variance between cards? (manufacturing tolerances etc.).
Though I suppose ultimately, no active cooling solution can/will be totally noiseless.
OC. 86 deg after an hour of MOH.
EEEK! 86C. That seems a wee bit high to me. I've not broken 60C yet. Though I suppose I've only had mine for a day. But I have run pretty much every synthetic benchmark out there (anal I am). 3Dmark 2001 through to 3D Mark11, Heaven 2.5, OCCT, AVP demo, Stone Giant
After an hour of Crysis2 (Ultra settings/high def textures/DX11), 58C.
While I can see that ambient temp and case cooling can have an effect, that's a significant higher temp than I've seen yet. What voltage is your card running at? According to Afterburner, mine is sat at just under 1 V under load (GPU-Z says 0.988v running FURMARK).
Though I obviously agree that liquid cooling if the ultimate way to go.
Strangely there has been a dip in inflation due to retailer discounting, doesn't seem to apply to GPU's though
There may have been a dip in inflation but it is still positive, so prices are continuing to increase.
Starting to wish I'd got an Asus GTX480 @ £195 instead of GTX470 Twin Frozr @ £144, that was my dillemna a few months back and the Asus has gained more in value.
Well as it stands the only game i cant play flat out is fsx with all my addons lol but all other games it rips through so i can wait for now
Oh thats random with mytraffic, vfr airfields and everything on high i get 100fps over sea or high 35kfeet+coming into gatwick about 25-30fps but there will be a lot of traffic about and the highres airport. Heathrow 20-25 fps somtimes 15 but still quite smooth
