Well the concerns about mmr are universal to all vaccines.

I may be wrong about the history of this, but I dont really remember much about Anti-Vax campaigns before the Wakefield/Autisim scare.

And that would have remained nothing more than a minor medical curiosity and would have rapidly fizzled out had it not been for Blairs very public evasiveness over whether his own children had been given the MMR vaccine.

In this and other matters. Blair has a lot to answer for!

Pretty much. And once that was discredited it was on to theyr e gull of mercuary/formaldehyde/all sorts of other stuff
 
The arguments against having mandatory vaccinations are along the lines of:

'My kids, i should choose whats best for them'

Firstly, parents don't necessarily know whats best for them. When it comes to medicine, i would imagine the medical professionals know better.

Secondly, this view makes children sound like the property of their parents rather than separate people. Children should not be subjected to the ignorance and stupidity of their parents just because they share the same genetics.

It's also where relatives of people killed by a bomb on board a plane were able to sue the government and win because their equivalent of the Daily Mail ran a clickbait story about it being downed by a missile xD

This is the problem with Italy (and many countries these days), the politicians in power will do what the public want in order to gain/keep votes, no matter how stupid.

Because of stupid Anti-vaxxers Italy no longer require schoolchildren to be vaccinated. It's right there in the OP lol.

I didn't know that 'anti-vaxxers' was a real thing, outside of a few mental Facebook posts I have seen on reddit! Truly shocking to think these nut-jobs are allowing their kids to go without vaccinations!!

Bet they also think the earth is flat too.

Then perhaps the solution is some kind of vetting and license to have kids ?

Make a test that parents have to pass to get their child bearing license, otherwise the state takes over parenting of the child post birth or forces abortions at fetal stage to prevent stupid people from breeding ?

Why stop there though ? Why not remove the ability for the parent to decide if they wish to abort/continue with pregnancy of child with poor genetics ?

Let's also ban the teaching of religion to children too while we're at it

Where do we draw your arbitrary line of where state can supersede parent in what is best for child ?
