Golf Thread

Looking forward to playing Woburn Abbey in early July, heard it's a pretty demanding track, off to La Manga after that for 10 days too.
The worst thing about La Manga is getting paired with some complete duffers, which nearly always happens to be the case when I am out there with my old man. There are supposed to be handicap limits, but a lot of the people I have played with are pretty much beginners with little to no idea of how to play or of proper etiquette. It was a massive relief to be first out one morning and get round in 3.5 hours when I was there in April! Also, it's going to be very, very hot in July.

I like the West course the best out of the three they have, as it has a bit of everything and is the most interesting course out of the lot. The North is nice too, but is not the most challenging of courses. I find the South to be the worst of the lot, even though it's supposed to be the best, as it is a bit flat, straight and dull.

Well, it didn't go too bad!

We finished last, which wasn't surprising as me and my brother had never played on an 18 hole golf course before. However we played off a handicap of 18 when a load of people who play regularly were playing off anything between 12 and 15...

I parred 2 holes and finished 1 over on about 4. Got about 51 points as a team in stableford I think it was?

Came second in a closest to the pin challenge on the 16th which was unlucky! Or lucky, whichever you may call it.

It appears I have a very weird swing though. All the power is generated in my arms as my body doesn't move at all, as I concentrate on not moving so I can actually hit the ball. Whenever I try to swing my hips more, the shot goes to pot! So I'm going to have a couple of lessons I hope to try and sort that out.

Yea its a great game when you have the ball on a string.

Power comes from the legs, core/back then arms and hands last.

Anyone going to The Open this week, think im going to pop up for a day or two.

I wouldn't worry so much about power just yet. Like me, you should be concentrating on accuracy and consistency. The power will come in time.

The short game is where you will quickly improve your scores anyway, or at least that's what i've been told :p

Kind of makes sense though, not a lot of point smashing the drive 300yds if it's going to take another 6 to get it in the cup! :D

FINALLY made it down to the range today after about 4weeks of not been able to play. I did...pretty terrible. I have forgotten how to swing a club...ah :p

Going to try get a game in this week!

Make sure you get another range session in 1st. There's nothing to put you off more than playing very badly on the course.

Bit of a weried one today, smashed a drive up the first, and there was a guy waiting behind me, he was waiting so i asked if he wanted to join me. Turns out it was

Rearranged doubles tie tonight for a place in the club semi finals!!! will advise later on result! Raining a bit a the moment but BRING IT ON!!!

It's 2 ball doubles so basically like foursomes but with each person playing alternative shots so you only play the 1 ball in each pairing.

I must have been doing something wrong then (Although i did hit around 100ish balls) as i am physically quite fit.

Yep, probably not turning at the hips properly, hence you are using only upper body to swing, and as a result your abs are taking a pounding.

Well after a 21 hole epic - victory was ours!!!

Good game - giving away 6 shots and 2 down with 3 to play. Won 16 against the shot and 17th with a solid par. All square at the last with me to hit the tee shot. Par 5, 240 yards to carry the bunkers and down the hill, general sensible play is to lay up short of them. Out comes the rescue club and bang, top it 40 yards into the burn!!!!:eek:

Thought that was out chance over but they make a bit of a hash of it and they miss a 18" putt at the last to win. So up the 1st both routine par 5's, 2nd i hole a good 15 ft putt for par to keep going and partner hits a great 5 iron to 20ft at the next and they make a hash of it and game over!!!

Semi Finals here we come!!! ( i played terrible but hole a couple of cruical putts at the right time to help out!!):p:p
