Golf Thread

I went to the driving range earlier, as usual for me it's about 85-90% of the shots are dead straight but the rest were off to either side

Some were because of my stance (feet pointing off to the right/left) and a few because my triceps were hurting towards the end (not due to the golf, I might add!) but others just seemed to be a mystery  I need to get a few lessons booked sharpish!

Still though, after a 5 year break I've beaten my dad, uncle and the other bloke they play with on 2 out of the 3 rounds we've had so I haven't lost it completely (it helps that they're not the best either ;))

Guys anyone here have a 2008 Taylormade Burner draw driver. Im really tempted to buy one and there only 99quid at directgolf. How good is it and will it straighten drives as im have a little trouble keeping them dead straight!

Best bet would be to nip into somewhere like Nevada Bobs and see if you can test one out. But it would be cheaper to pay for a lesson and have the pro fix your slice, rather than buying a club to make it less. ;)

With the draw clubs i have two problems

1. Your covering up a flaw in your swing
2. I don't think they actually help *that* much at all.

As Diggsy says though, get to a shop that will let you try them out on a range and see how you get on. You never know, it might work for you :D

I'd buy a neutral driver and learn how to shape the ball properly, it will only cover up a bad swing by buying these draw clubs. Like Diggsy and Roidy have said get a few lessons to sort out your fade/slice, it will be far better in the long run :)

The TaylorMade clubs with a draw bias are designed around Sergio Garcia's swing. They promote 4 yards of draw based on his assumed neutral swing. Therefore, if you are missing the centre of the fairway by 4 yards to the right, buy a draw biased driver. If you are slicing the ball into the trees right consistently, buy some lessons to fix your slice.

Dont understand how people cant fix a fade/slice.

Aim the club at the target, close your stance so your feet and shoulders are aiming slightly right of the target and make a rounded swing, baseball like.

Went to the range last night after watching several videos on swinging (:D). Managed to swivvle (sp?) my body more and get more power in the shot which was fantastic at times. However it has resulted in a much higher percentage of my shots being pulled to the left.

Does anyone have any tips on stopping this?

Felt really good hitting some of the shots I did yesterday. Even with my 3 iron which I am usually useless with I was pinging some absolute beauts :)

That's what I did when I started playing again, my uncle told me to do it and it worked :)

However, now I can seemingly have the same stance with same feet positions and same grip etc and hit the majority of the balls dead straight, yet still get the odd shot which goes off to either side - but I am in exactly the same position as I was the previous shot  very annoying as I can often hit a cracking tee shot followed by a dreadful iron off the fairway and vice versa!

Heyup, I have played golf off and on for about 10 years. I aren't a particularly good player but am looking to invest in some new clubs. I have only ever owned some second hand Taylor Made "Burner" irons and a mix match of woods. I have always been scared of the price tags in shops. For a relatively decent set of clubs, how much should I be looking to play, would want irons, 3w, 5w and driver.

Any help would be very appreciated as I don't really know what I am looking for in buying golf clubs.

Just been watching the golf on tv and notice as they swing/turn their bodies there left leg dips down, mine does this but i always try and stop it....maby i shouldn't :p

No don't stop that, it's how you begin the weight transfer from front to back foot and back again on the follow through.

I've been watching the open (still am right now) and its giving me a nervous twitch I WANT TO GO PLAY ARGH!

But its raining really heavily....driving range me thinks!
