Golf Thread

Hi all - wonder if I might get some advice on what might be a suitable trolley for my needs.

When I was much younger and much more foolish I used to play two rounds a weekend and carry around a stupidly heavy bag stuffed full of every club I could legally fit inside it, plus numerous bottles of water and squillions of golf balls - needless to say I ended up severely knackering my back and found myself incapable of playing golf for upwards of five years.

But I'm now at the stage where I can look to start playing again and have spent a few evenings down the range and am pretty confident my back is up to the challenge, so I've relegated my stand-bag to the depths of the shed and have purchased a nice new lightweight cart bag.

But I need a trolley to go with it - any thoughts on what I should be looking at, where my money is best spent, etc? My local pro shop tried to sell me the Sun Mountain Micro Cart but it felt a bit... excessive?

To be honest with you, £150 is a drop in the ocean compared to the amount of money I spent righting my back - if that's what it takes it's worth it in the long run.

Are the wheels sturdy? They seem a little on the thin side, when compared with something like the look Clicgear 3.5+ which is equally as tiny when folded and seems to have some rather neat features.

I take it that a push trolley is far better than a pull one for a dicky back? Seems that all the 'premium' models are of the push variety.

No hassles with the wheels, solid and can be removed very easy if you need to squeeze it down even smaller but it's very small when folded anyway.

I've got the Clicgear 2.0 and can fit that plus my bag (have to take the woods out) and shoes into the boot of my Clio. It's quite light, folds out quickly and is very easy to push. I found pull trolleys did more damage to my back than carrying, two fractured vertebrae in my lower back. Paid £90 brand new inc delivery for mine, took me a while to eventually find it for that price off eBay but couldn't justify the £180 they were demanding from online shops.

A mate has the sun mountain one and likes it too, though he has had a few bits drop off/snap.

An alternative is to look at the goKart range of Leccy trollies, not much more than a Clicgear and electric to boot, plus they fold down small.

After upgrading my Hybrid last week to a RBZ Stage 2, I decided I needed a new driver this week.

Tested these:

- TM RBZ Stage 2 Driver
- TM R1
- Callaway X Hot
- Cobra AMP Cell
- Nike VR_s
- Ping G25

Hit 2 of them consistantly well, the RBZ Stage 2 (no suprise) and the Nike VR_s. It was between these 2 and the Nike ended up being better, with a nice draw and extra distance over the RBZ.

Took it out for the first time yesterday and it absolutely goes! The upgraded loft to 10.5 from the 9 degree Yonex I was handed, has massively improved my trajectory also.

Got my first club competition on sunday, can't wait

Good luck - not had time to play all year with work and kids.

However looks like the next few months could be interesting.

One game played this year - Gleneagles 2014 Ryder Cup course.

upcoming games - Dundonald (open qualifier), Royal Troon (open venue) and Turnberry (open venue). All with work or mates.

Think I might need to get to the range asap and dust off the clubs! finished playing off 8 last year - might try claiming 28 for these games!

not sure if this is any use to anyone from direct-golf website

doesn't even look good! Looks like a lawnmower!:p

LOL, lawnmower pft! Looks fine once a decent cart bag's been put on it :p

Jesus, I know golf isn't a cheap hobby but that's £1k for a cart trolley!

That's the wonder of ebay, even I'm not stupid enough to pay out £1K for an electric trolley! It's a Stewart approved second hand unit that I picked up for a smidge over 500 quid.

“The X5 is in a good condition and has recently been serviced by our team at the Stewart Golf HQ. The trolley has had a replacement handle and main support. The trolley comes with alloys wheels front and rear. The trolley will come with a Lead Acid battery and charger. The trolley also comes with a 6 month warranty.”

Played my personal best round for a second week in row in Saturday's stableford competition. Shot a 78 gross playing off 14 for the first time. Unfortunately my score of 43 came third to two 44s. Damn my blob on the first!

The scores haven't been uploaded to Howdidido yet, but last week they knocked my handicap down by 1.5. I've been told not to be surprised if they do the same again. If they do I'll be going from 14 to 12 and definitely not with a shot of winning one of the board competitions! :p

Booyaka - I don't know if you've played there before but we went to the Belfry and played the PGA course two weeks ago. Unfortunately we left after 13 as the weather was just awful for us, but we all thought it was a lovely course. One you had to think your way round a bit and was in great condition. May be worth adding to those you are going to play. We were able to get a deal for £45 each as a fourball.

With a net 64, you will easily be in the top 3 :)

I had my first tourney yesterday and waiting for Howdidido to upload the results! Thinking my handicap will have gone up though, as typically had my worst round in a few months :(
