Golf Thread

Hey golfers. I have recently started to learn to play golf and after having a few lessons, i'm really enjoying it and i'm looking at getting my first set of clubs. I have been looking at 2nd hand sets of clubs being sold locally and have found a set of Lynx clubs (bag, putter, 5,6,7,8,9 iron, pw, sw, 3 & 4 hybrid, 3 wood and driver) for around £100 and the guy selling them has told me that they are less than a year old. I have been Google'ing the brand but can't seem to find anywhere selling them.

Is Lynx a good brand? Would they be suitable for a beginner? I realise that I won't be using quite a few of those clubs like the hybrids, wood and driver for a while but thought it might be handy having them for when I'm ready (assuming I continue to improve enough!)

I would appreciate your thoughts on this one :)

Thanks,
James

Ooh! This is developing very, very nicely. Some real good golfers involved here. Woods, Westwood, Jiminez, Mahan. All capable of a good run. Should be a cracking final day depending on the last few holes tonight.

You would be better off looking on ebay for a better brand of irons imo. Something like the older Taylormade OS for example are cheap and will be lots better that the Lynx you are looking at. Once you have the irons and are used to playing, then look for woods, etc..

Thanks for the advice. I will keep a look out for better irons and will then build up the clubs when I feel I need the extra clubs.

Thanks again!

Westwood should have taken his punishment and chipped out of the rough, he is now in deeper rough because he hooked it in the long rough.

Oh he actually got a nice flat lie, lucky enough!

You guys are a bit harsh on Westwood? He did well it's not easy to have 4 good rounds out there. He's a good golfer but not a great golfer. Phil and Tiger are a step ahead of everybody else anf if they play their best they will win most events.

I won a round of golf! (half round)

Played on the intermediate course down the road from me, only 9 holes but I won!
Played the guy that got me into this frustrating game, beat him by 1, final putt was a monster, looked like it wasnt going in then just waited and dropped.
They had a kiddie open going on the par 3 which tees off just next to this final hole....I might have lost all etiquette and shouted YES!

Only had 1 bad hole with a simply horrible shot off the tee and then my recovery was awful as well ended up shooting a 9.

Friend was 3 ahead going in to the last, I got a par and he had a mare :D

So glad I finally beat someone, it was all starting to feel very Westwood...

Came back from Ashbury Golf Manor (near exeter) with 2 mates on Friday and can say that we are considering going again next year. Great experience and amazing price for what you get! Played 2 rounds a day for 5 days, which I'm still feeling now, but well worth it. 7 great courses and some awesome holes.

The only downside I would say is that the greens are so slow / very difficult & unpredictable to read. Cost me a lot of shots and looking forward to some proper greens at my local :p

We go down ashbury each year its great but the guys always want to do april for some reason and the weathers awful. I agree though great courses and incredible value for money

Hey Guys I'm after a little advice. I currently Use a Ping g20 Driver, and whilst this is a nice club it feels a little huge when I swing.

I also have a shoulder injury that i'm receiving treatment for, and I feel that a smaller driver head would suit me better.

Any case the pro I see has offered me his Nike Covert Tour for £200 ( this club is brand new, still in the wrapper). This club has a 430cc head size.

So what do you guys think, stick with what I've got or try the Nike out. My handicap is 25

Stick with the G20. Smaller headed clubs tend to be used by better players to shape the ball easier. Also if it's a tour spec club, it's likely to be a stiff shaft as well which probably won;t suit.

I would stick with the G20. I'm actually considering buying one of those this week.

Me and a mate tried out the Nike v_RS driver & hybrid and both didn't like the way the club shapes up at address. The way it's styled feels as though the clubface is open all the time.

Try the G25 if you can, I've heard its great. The problem Ive got with the Ping G20 is that is huge, it feels massive when I'm addressing the ball and it feels massive when I'm swinging.

I've got the covert 3 wood, and tbh I love it, It feels great and I get the distance I want. Never really noticed how it addresses the ball.

I've messed around with my wife's Covert driver, and I really like that, except for the shaft which is awful on my wife's club. Hmm well I have some things to consider.
