The JPX 825 is slightly larger, has a thicker topline (when you look down at the iron from above it doesn't look too 'blade' like) and a little more offset I believe (easier to square the ball at impact). The lofts are also stronger by 1 degree.

To be honest, you need to trust the fitter, more often than not it's all about the shaft of the iron, I use tour stiff shafts in my woods, regular in my irons and stiff in my wedges, a right mismatch but it works for me.

The lie angle of a club is about how it sits level to the floor at address, so if the heel or toe of the club is up then you will need the lie altering either upright or flat to compensate (I'm a short arse and my swing means I have 2 degree flat lie). Loft is about launch angle from the club face, but bear in mind that can also be altered by your swing, shaft etc.

It's difficult for me to say whether I'm consistently hitting the middle, as my clubs have very little feedback, however my shot accuracy has improved a lot this year so I'd say that I probably do hit centre quite often. I know I hit the centre 90% of the time with my wedges as you can physically see that on the Vokey wedges and also the prints on my driver show a central imprint on the face 90% of the time.

Do you know what the real difference is between the Pro and Non-Pro version of the JPX?

With regards to the shaft choice:
- My tempo is good and my swing speed is in the low 90's I believe, so probably expecting the fitter to say look at a regular shaft? When I went for a driver fitting, they said you shouldn't really look at stiff flex unless swing speed was >100mph.
- Ball flight used to be very high, but I had a problematic steep swing, but now it's medium I would say. The lie angle of the club determines this doesn't it?

I guess I'll find this all out when I get fitted, but it's good to get some background knowledge before I go :)

Wow, 90s with a 6iron? You carrying it over 180 yards? For reference I play stiff shafts with a swing speed of 85mph and carry 170 (measured on trackman).

One way to tell with irons is to cover the face with masking tape (yellow matte finish) put a line with a sharpie on a ball and then hit a few. Or get impact tape.

With respect to lie angle, its to do with "how tall" a club will be, and is measured dynamically with a striking board. Club fitter will take care of it.

any thoughts on either of these shaft options and realistically reshaft or am I as well just retooling?
Thought about KBS shafts? The Tour or Tour-V could be right up your proverbial street, and seem to work well with Pings.

Personally, I'd re-tool and get new clubs with new shafts. You might well find that the cost to upgrade yours gets perilously close to the cost of a new set.

Nope, that swing speed was recorded with a hybrid (when I bought one recently), no chance of hitting 180 with a 6i! Normally my 6i will carry 165-170.

I'll be interested in seeing what my actual swing speed is with the irons, however.

Been searching around and these are the best prices I've found so far: ** ALL ARE 4-PW Steel Irons **

Titleist AP1 £404.10 (think that includes a 10% so not sure they would pricematch that)
Titleist AP2 £579.99
Ping G25 £438.99
Ping G20 £341.10
Mizuno JPX 825 £449.00
Mizuno JPX EZ £429.00
Mizuno JPX Pro £525.00

I do like the way American Golf will price match anything, saved me quite a bit already.

Hopefully going to pick up some new irons on Sunday! Will have to report back on what I purchase :)

Slightly concerned there's a new set of Titleist AP1 and Ping clubs on the way though

There's always something new around the corner - TaylorMade seem to release new stuff every other week. And that's why the second-hand value of their stuff is so low.

I believe the Ping G30 irons aren't due to make an appearance until Q2 2014, and if rumours are anything to go by they'll just be a slight evolution of the G25 range - much like the G15>G20 progression was.

So, given you're speaking about Titleist and Ping... that means you went Mizuno?! :D

Ordered a 3 wood 15* Taylormade burner and a 19* Taylormade Rocketballs hybrid 170 pound for both is good value since i cant afford to buy the latest stuff. Now i can play any shot with confidence as before i just had a 4 hybrid and next thing up was a driver. I feel like my iron play has suffered and my driver in the last year they used to be the best part of my game.

Well, went to American Golf this morning and have purchased some G25 irons, stiff shaft and blue dot!

Got them for £430 4-PW and a free 1/2 lesson with pro, very pleased with that. Should be here Friday, day before the monthly medal :)

Very nice. How did the fitting go - were you a Blue Dot from Ping's fitting chart or did you have your measurements taken and got to try out a number of options?

And were you given a selection of shafts to try out or were the CFT shafts the only option available to you? I liked the CFT shafts in the G25s but I loved the KBS Tour option, but only places with the AFS Cart seem to allow you that flexibility.

Now all you need is a couple of Hybrid G25s and a Driver to complete the set! :D

Yeh basically at address I required a slight upright angle and the toe was catching the floor at impact causing the face to open slightly. Had measurements taken for hand size, hit off the mats for normal shots and this glass tray to work out how the club was at address/impact.

I was using the dynamic xP regular shaft I believe and the guy recommended the stiff shaft, because I was a) too much flex at impact b) ball trajectory too high. Swing speed with 7iron was near 88mph, which he said was too high for regular and ball was very high, so was losing me some distance.

The long and short irons felt good as well. Nice straight distance with the 4iron and even some backspin with the wedge! I must say that the ping grips are fantastic, felt comfortable and really grippy. For my size, standard grip and length was applicable.

Haha well iv recently bought a hybrid and driver (TM stage2 hybrid and Nike vRS driver), which have considerable improved my game.

Just got to wait for the call this week to say they've arrived!

Ping make such solid clubs, got G20 irons and G10 driver everything goes straight love them.

Did you go straight for the Dynalite shaft or did you work your way through the range, starting with the CFS?

We're AG using a TrackMan system, or similar, to analyse the ball flight?

Iv heard really good things, so I'm excited to give them a go! Hopefully my experience is as good as yours :)

Honestly, I just took his advice after using the regular shaft that stiff is the way to go for me.

Yep AG have their own ball flight system, tracks the shot in the air, face angle, spin rate, swing speed etc - everything you would need, would recommend it.

I must admit the choice of the fitter to go straight for the Dynalite shafts is a little curious, but you've come out extremely well from the deal - my price list says they are an £85 surcharge over the standard CFS shafts!

I thought they might be slightly more, but that's more than I expected! I think I got some managerial discrestion with my price, as the fitter was the Assistant Manager of the store ;)

Changed my orders from taylormade to ping. Taylormade are very fancy and supposed to be long clubs, harder to hit as well with longer shafts to increase distance. I just want a club that does what it says on the tin, the Taylormade stuff is all about ego. I was trying my bro's Burner hybrid out hated the thing changed my wood and hybrid order to Ping G20 now i am happy.

I think i jumped to the Taylormade band wagon because every body has Taylormade and it messes with your head tbh, im happy with my ping irons and driver should have never opted for taylormade in the 1st place.

Also Mizuno are a brand im going to pay a lot more attention to when im buying the latest equipment. Was looking at there 2014 line and it's very promising and they dont claim to give u an extra 15 yards with every new club u buy from them.
