Golf Thread

The biggest single thing for all golfers (amateur and professional). My bad shot is a plain simple pull. I can stripe it round the course for 16 holes, then BANG! out of nowhere I yank one straight left. It comes from nothing except for a minor drop in concentration where one little part of your routine is forgotten (normally I dip my left knee a fraction) and the top half tries to recover, but to late, hips are to far through the ball and off she goes Robin Hood style ("to the treeeeeeeeeeees").

Haha good to know :)

I picked up a club for pretty much the first time in August so I know I have a LOT to learn and ingrain in my muscle memory :)

Yesterday I played 9 holes after work and I was well chuffed. Had to have the odd 'ahem' practice shot off the tee, but I got round in 56 so 20 over parr, and pretty much got onto the green within three on every hole which is my target.

Are there any reputable UK forums or suchlike where one might be able to sell his unwanted golfing equipment? I'm finding eBay to be the usual minefield of chancers and potential rip-off merchants and Gumtree to be an utterly soul-destroying experience.

And as for Golfbidder, the less said about them the better!

There's http://forums.golf-monthly.co.uk/ but just like on here you are required to have made a minimum number of posts before you can buy/sell.

If you are a member of a club you could put an ad in the pro shop if they are friendly enough.
Gm forums is also a decent enough shout though as mentioned, you do need to have been a member for a while and a posting minimum applies.

Decided to change up my golf ball. Been using the E6 for about 6 months and although great for reducing driver spin, it lacks on soft feel and bite around the green.

I've just ordered some Callaway Hex Chrome+ balls, as I've heard some good things about it, as well it's claim to reduce driver spin and add spin around the greens.

FYI - American Golf have 10% of Golf balls this weekend (as well as other things)

Been playing the ProV1 this year, won a dozen on the ball draw and got a dozen from a corporate day. Never been a fan before but this years model has played really nicely. Doesn't mark up as much as my usual Nike 20xi-S with the wedges (ball only normally lasts 2 rounds tops before it looks like it's been the victim of an axe murderer!), driver spin is good and feel around the green is top quality.

Quick update: Came 2nd! Gutted, I thought I had that one bagged. Got beaten by one shot and I shot a Net 68 so the guy ahead had a really good day.

Shot +15 (18.0 handicap) and handicap has been adjusted to 16.7 now, very happy :)

Was looking at my stats last night and I've managed to go from:

August 2013 - Handicap: 24.0
October 2013 - Handicap 16.7

Hard work is paying off, which is pleasing

I notice you didn't mention the guy who came 3rd in Division 2, and missed a 6 inch putt to take the win. Shame :o

Worst 'I'm so good I never l lose golf balls' post ever

My pga pro said he has never played a round at my local royal copenhagen with only one ball.

I played LongHirst hall a few weeks ago on the Lakes course and lost 14!

Just had a custom fir for a set of the new Mizuno JPX EZ irons, going from Burner 2.0 reg shafts i was hitting the Mizunos an average of 25 yards further with a 6 iron with stiffer shaft - been using the wrong shaft for years!

The extra distance will be because the EZ irons are deisgned to get the ball in the air. More air time normally means more carry if the trajectory is right.

The stiffer shaft will help also, as it did with me when I bought my Ping G25's recently.

Getting fit for a new driver soon looking at the Callaway x hot, has any one used this club with the stock shaft? I have heard the shaft is not the best for distance and players are reporting losing 10-25 yards distance because of it.

I have the X-Hot in 11.5 degrees stock shaft, i possibly should have got stiff but its the nicest driver i have used for a long time, something about the look of it for me i just get on with. I had the Razr Black edition and didn't get on with it, also had an RBZ. I have the x-hot opti-fit set to (C) and its helped my slice quite a bit. They had an offer on where you got a hybrid free with the x-hot but i think its stopped now, check out Mark Crossfields driver reviews on the Tube. I certainly haven't lost distance with the x-hot though

Ha, we got the same driver. I was using a Ping G10 stiff turns out my swing speed was mid 80's and was mainly the reason the ball was not launching. Put me onto a regular shaft with 11.5* and that fixed my drives now!

He gave me the 11.5* because i was hitting the ball with a closed face which reduces the loft so to counter that loft loss he increased the loft and put the face to open to stop me hooking every single drive lol.

My driver has been the weakest club in my bag for a long time, I just struggle to break 30 points when i have to keep hitting hybrids off the tee but now i am much more confident i can get 250 yards on the fairway and give myself a good chance of scoring now.

I got the free hybrid with it so my brother split the cost of the driver for 130 euro each and gave him the hybrid since he was looking for one and we are both happy now. Cant go wrong with a brand new driver for that price.

Also i got into a terrible habit with my grip which i knew was the main culprit for my terrible shots in the last couple of months. He gave me a practising club with a grip aid to just pick it up and it will help u with the correct grip. I just grip it every hour or so for 1-2 minutes and it automatically fixes my grip for me.

Not played golf properly now for about 7 years, used to play off a 4 handicap and played for U18 county team and clubs scratch team.

Thinking about starting to play again, but need to buy myself a new driver, to replace the Titleist 975J VS that i managed to crack the club face on (right in the centre off the face). What cheap drivers could i pick up on ebay that would be good for a higher level golfer? another 975 (can be had for around £30-£40)?

Golfbidder website has huge stock of 2nd hand stuff, im sure u will find something there. Probably ping g10 u might get for that price.

Thought I'd post a mini review on the Callaway Hex Chrome + that I purchased last week.

Used them for my round on Saturday and can honestly say they are a massive upgrade from the Bridgestone E6 I've been using. Masses of spin around the green in comparison and was able to stick some very long range 4-5irons to the green. Still has the low driver spin that the E6 has and was getting some distance increase also. Although I couldn't putt at all during the round (due to the wet conditions), the ball was also noticeable softer off the face. Unfortunately I did lose a few due to the millions of leaves on the grounds, but that's another argument!

It's the first time i've used a 'tour equivelant 4-piece ball' and can honestly say it's worth a purchase if anyone has been considering changing their golf balls :)
