Apparently the lynch mob are getting warmed up at my place after rumours of my scores have leaked out. I always say don't blame the player blame the system, but my form in the last 2 years has seen me go from a social 13/14 to an official 18 to an official 22 (have been given 3 shots back in the last 2 yeas handicap review!). It all seems to be clicking now with my new 2 ball putter and getting the driver under control. A 30 point front 9 a few weeks ago is being highlighted as reasons for my impending doom, along with 45+ points contributions each week to the team 4 ball winter pro comp Saturday's.

Feels good to be playing well again, best feeling so far was playing SI 1-4 in 1 over gross last weekend.........

I'm not surprised there is some annoyance. 30pts off a 22 handicap is 12 under net, 2 under gross. If I saw a 22 handicap shoot 2 under gross in 9 holes I would be pretty annoyed.

I would be annoyed if it was a social handicap for sure! The fact it is a club handicap I don't think I could complain. Providing you have been slashed at least 3 shots since then!

On a side note. Cannot wait for 29th March to come round so I can start some evening golf after work!

No cuts as it's the winter pro comps. To be honest a lot of my mates and regular golf partners are surprised by my high handicap, a lot of it is my temper, if I can keep that under control I can play to single figures, but having been a rugby player for 20+yrs before this and get angry when things don't go right and that's not conducive to medal play comps. If you watch tin cup that's me all over, I'd try 10 times to hit the 220yd draw with my rescue rather than hit a lay up and pitch, it's simethig I'm working on to control my mental state of mind when playing.

Bandit!! :p

My bats for the upcoming season, pretty much the same as last season. What's everybody else playing with this year?

Not long now until longer days and the first medal of the year, can't wait for some decent weather.

I'm playing on my own in the morning for the first time in a few weeks, going to be awful but needs must! Playing against the father in law to be next weekend so need to be sure that I can still hit a ball!

Will get pics up soon. I just picked up custom fitted Srixon z745 irons for £469. Very similar in profile to my Mizuno JPX 800 Pros.

I have 18 holes tomorrow at Kendleshire and then another 18 on Monday at Knowle which I am really looking forward to.

Played in the monthly medal comp this morning shot 95 in pretty bad winds, - my 24 handicap got me down to 71 2 over course par. Last time I saw (13:00) I was top by 4 points so will see tomorrow what the final result was. *fingers crossed*

Today was the first outing to the golf course since early October. Despite the shocking weather I managed to card a gross 80 (nett 68, -3) so I'm really pleased with that result. Started the round with a birdie and then an eagle on the 2nd which was just ridiculous and faded a little on the back 9 but all in all, really enjoyed it.

I've refreshed my bag over the winter as I've been easing back into the game over the last few years and I'm now swinging the club much faster so first things first was to address my reg flex Ping G20s and I just went for a used set of Ping G25s with a stiff CFS shaft. Quite liking them so far, much thinner soles compared to the G20s.

I impulsive-bought a 915F 5w 2nd hand and I was so impressed with it that I decided to go for a 3W and hybrid and the D2 driver so my bag for today was:

915D2 9.5deg - Aldlia Rogue Black
915F 3W - Diamana Blue 70
915F 5W - Diamana Blue 70
915H 24 deg - Aldila Rogue Black
G25 4-PW
SM5 54deg and 58deg
Odyssey 2ball

Really rate the 915s, first outing with them today and I was very impressed with the driver and fairways. The shaft on the hybrid is a bit heavier than what I've used before but my first hit with it went stone dead from about 190 yards so it also left a good impression!

On the subs bench I've got:
Ping i25 22deg hybrid
Cobra Bio Cell+ Driver
SM4 56deg
SM5 48deg
A Ping Ketsch and a new Odyssey Metal Works no.7

Conditions were tough yesterday! I shot a 94, but i'm off a 14 handicap and I learnt that I need to warm up properly as I shot an 11 on the 1st hole, so I did well to recover really. First 4 shots didn't pass 50yards :p

I use the G25 with the CFS stiff shafts as well and they're great clubs. The thick soles on the 4/5i inspire a lot of confidence for me. What handicap do you play off out of interest?

On a side note I purchased a GAME Golf last week, just waiting for it to be delivered. Looks really interesting and hoping to use it to get down to the 10 handicap. For those that haven't seen it:

Ouch! Decent recovery though indeed.

I just got a handicap last summer and it's been hovering around 12 since then.

I demo'd a few irons last month, got some good numbers on the launch monitor with the AP2s but I didn't fall in love with them, maybe it's because my swing wasn't right on the day, or because it was freezing! Was more impressed with the Callaway Apex and i25's.

Long term I think I'll find a set somewhere between game improvement and players irons so I've picked up these used G25s possibly as a temporary solution or I may just game them for the season, we shall see how things go over the next couple of months. They seem good so far.

Cheers for the link, looks like an interesting tool. Interested to hear how you get on with it.

First round back after a month and a half off. Fair weather and all that.

Shot 86 playing from 9 h'cap. Course is par 70 so was happy with that return! Playing wednesday, saturday and next friday so hoping it should all come back together!

Shot 96 today at Bathgate, 6 shots better than my previous best so I am absolutely delighted! A lot of things clicked today and I only had one blow up hole. Back out tomorrow early doors so we will see if I can continue the form!

Good on you blairw, always good to break the 100 barrier! It's now all about scrubbing the daft holes out of the game. You'll find that you'll have to learn course management like pull a 9 iron instead of a wood/long iron to lay up okay you'll lose a shot but its all about making the course play easier.

I used it for the first time yesterday and it went well. I think I only forgot to tag about 4 shots, but you can add them in after anyway.

Doesn't interfere with your swing at all (had it on left hip) and it vibrates/beeps when it's successfully tagged.

I think it will need a few rounds before you can really analyse anything in great detail, but you'll be suprised and how short you actually hit the ball compared to what you think. It also shows up that my approach shots fall short very often, which is what you'd expect from most amateurs I guess.

A nice down wind 280yrd driver and a downwind 220yrd 4iron looks good on the stats :) My avg putts for the round were at 1.7, which was pleasing.

I'd definitely recommend it based on my first go and I'm sure it will prove very useful over time.

My last 2 rounds have been awful, my worst in a long time. Feel like I've forgotten how to putt and my fairway iron shots were all topped. Thankfully it was dry and they ran a bit but it was a poor show.
Back to basics I guess!

Yeah very mixed bag for me too yesterday. Had a great nine hole practice round with my instructor but then played 18 with a friend and 3/4 of it was horrific. This however was my 179yd drive that was so very nearly my first hole in 1 :)

Nice day up in Donegal yesterday when Playing Ballyliffin.

The new mounds behind the reworked par 3 7th looking well on the Glashedy course, temp teebox in place while they finish a little work on the normal tees, still didn't take away from the view from the very elevated teebox.

Looks great!

Typical return to form - 104 yesterday so an 8 shot increase on the day before - none of us played well at all - some really stupid mistakes!

Back out on Saturday, and will get to the range again this week.

Got myself a new driver and putter, will stick up a WITB shortly.

Sounds promising, yeah I reckon a tool like that would become invaluable over time as the stats rack up. I especially struggle with gauging my yardages accurately as the local driving range doesn't have particularly good distance markers, so a tool like that would be very helpful to understand reliably how far the ball goes with each club
