Golf Thread

That's golf unfortunately. I had our Monthly Stableford competition on Saturday and was 8 worse (18 over). Played yesterday and shot my personal best 4 over par. It never fails to amaze me the different your game can be in the space of 24 hours.

Gutted for Louis, thought he had it but a couple of bad putts.

Suing Forest Pines myself tomorrow, challenging course so should be interesting :p

Has anyone signed up to Me and My Golf? There's a free 7 day trial going currently so I've had a look at some of the tips for fixing slices, hoping to give them a try on Thursday at the range.

Extremely frustrating round at the Forest Pines, my short game was fantastic, best I have ever played it and my putting was really solid too (2 putt on 14 holes) but for no reason that I could identify I couldn't hit my tee shots or my irons, it was embarassing. I was either slicing or scuffing, hit about a dozen sweet shots all round

Take a break for a week and spend some time on the driving range diagnosing what it is went wrong as I just could not correct it. Very frustrating :p

My current irons are ok but I've reached the point in my career where I earn a decent wage and I like treating myself haha will stop me spending on my car anyway. I'm looking for something that's just more modern and has a bit of forgiveness in it. :)

For a high handicapper you will be looking for a cavity back club head. This allows for miss hits to be more forgiving as you mentioned. Had a mate start playing golf recently and he went to hit some TaylorMade AeroBurners. Was striking them really well and he plays off of 26. They have the new speedslot on the club head with a cavity back. Was hitting them 10 yards further then anything else. I also linked below some wilson staff clubs. These are at a great price to get you going. Someone else I played with had wilson staff from the start of his game and he is now a mid handicap. Best thing to do would be to go american golf or direct golf and test some clubs out. Wouldn't advise buying from them as clubs are so much more cheaper online. Clubhouse golf I have found to be a great site. Quick delivery and great offers.

American Golf and Direct Golf will price match though, so I don't see it being a problem buying from them. I bought some custom fitted irons from them and they price matched the cheapest place I could find online. I'd definitely recommend going into store and trying out some irons, buying without testing is crazy imo.

Off to the driving range tonight before a round at Birley Wood Golf Club tomorrow, weather looks set to be nice, can't wait.

great weekend just gone - won Club Championship for the first time (we actually play for 3 trophy's - the scratch, the Cat 2 and above scratch and the Net), won both the Cat 2 scratch and the net and missed out on the general scratch by 3 shots.

Really chuffed with that performance.

Congrats Dale!

I've been it the driving range for a week after taking time away after 2 horrible rounds. A kindly pro at the range took pity after my first frustrating session and a few tips seemed to have worked a charm. I was getting too close to the ball was one issue, the other which he told me was causing more issues was in my swing. I was turning my wrist in my back swing but then not turning it back in my down swing which was causing all sorts of bother. A decent week of practice culminated in 75 balls today I hit every one perfect, saw the pro who was happy with what I was doing.

It'll go to peices on the course I'm sure :p but I'll have plenty practice as I'm possibly playing Sunday and Tuesday, both tbc, then definitely playing Wednesday and Friday so plenty of chance to turn theory into practice! :p

The 100 quest continues :)

Played my first recorded card for my handicap today... 108... That's 20 shots worse than the round I had two weeks ago!! I didn't think the pressure would get to me that much!

Broke 100 a few weeks ago with a 99.
Have since done a 101
And mostly I get under 110 without a struggle so I'm happy things are coming together after playing for a year.
I always said once I beat the 100 I'd buy a trolley, got a Motocaddy S1 which I've used twice this weekend on one charge :-)
Put 3 cards in now, just waiting to hear back on my handicap, wish me luck.

I shot 97 yesterday and got not one but two birdies! My first ever birdie! One on a par 3 and then I got one again on the next hole which was a par 5!
