Played my second Handicap card last night - round in 90 on the dot! That is going to look weird compared to my 108 for my first one!

Had a nice little tax rebate and cashed in loads of receipts at work......I some how ended up in American Golf earlier and now have a new Taylormade Driver in the boot :D

will play 9 or 11 holes tonight to run it in :)

How much did you pay for lessions if you dont mind me asking ? I really need to work on my driver as im constantly fading the ball.

I haven't had them yet I'm in the process of booking pretty sure there 20 for 30mins or 45 with Trackman for 45mins

Fading of the ball 9/10 is down to strike, do you tend to catch it more out of the heel than the toe? Best thing to do with that is so try teeing a bit further toward the toe and you may find a better strike and straighter ball flight.

Which driver did you pick up Rodney? Lets see some pics! :)

TaylorMade SLDR S Driver, been thinking it over and over for weeks, maybe months about getting one. I bought the fairway wood months ago and its changed my game, I feel so confident with it.
Anyway, the guy got me setup and on the computer hitting balls. He's thinks I'll be pleased with it and the results, it certainly felt good on the nets in there.

I brought myself an SLDR back in Feb-March this year its made a massive improvement to my game. Depending on the wind on the course I play on I either keep it at 11 degrees or drop it down to 9.5 degrees. I don't bother playing with the adjustable weight as I feel for me I'm not consistent enough to know where to sit it, so I leave it on the blue mark (neutral) and play with the lofts. I did get fitted at my local AG but ended up looking on the bay and found a 65 Stiff shaft for £35 which I considered a bargain.

Tbh catching the ball 'heel more than toe' means nothing to me. I started
playing in March and never had any type of coaching, just me going to the driving range with a work buddy. What's heel/toe mean ? :D

Where the ball contacts the club doesn't impact the shape of the shot. It is the swing path that affects it. If you swing across the ball you can hit it anywhere on the club face and it will have a fade. If you are swinging in to out then you can hit it anywhere on the club face and it will have a draw.

Is there anything online to actually show this ?

I don't think strike location is as important as path and face to path to be honest. Yes, catching it massively out of the heel or toe will have an effect, but hitting it slightly out of the heel or toe won't. What has more impact is the swing path and the face relative to that swing path (known as face to path). I find Mark Crossfield is excellent at explaining these concepts so if you're in any doubt check out his Youtube vids.

That's great, thanks.

From reading this I think I'm hitting the ball on the heel but what I do find slightly confusing is what it says in that link:

"When you hit the ball on the heel, the ball will launch towards the left but cut/slice to the right"

Mine does not (as far as I can tell) launch towards the left before cutting/slicing to the right. Mine seems to go straight then slices/fades way right.

Hitting the ball off the heel of the club isn't something you could consistently do but if you were to hit off the heel I would say 9 times out of 10 you will fade it (This does not however mean its down to where the ball contacts the club). Chances are your swing path is out to in. If you try play a draw from the heel chanses are you may see the ball 10 feet directly behind you because of the angle you are coming in at the ball. If you try and play a fade off the toe you may see the ball 10 feet directly in front of you. Swing path has an impact all over the club face. Its not an easy game after all. We all know how the first 9 holes you can play massive hooks and then somehow you start slicing the ball for the next 9...

Well, back down to earth with a bump. Went round in 113 Wednesday and 115 tonight.

Everything that went right Monday/Tuesday went wrong the last two rounds, for every good shot I was hitting 4 bad ones.

I think I may have overplayed this week and just over thought it. Not got a round for a week so chill for a few days then driving range mid week to fix it :p

Oh well, golf :p

I use golfshot GPS. I am pretty confident there are plenty of other apps that can do the same. You can use the free or paid version and you plumb in your shots per hole, fairway hit, bunkers, penalty shots and putts. Putts per hole is at 1.8 per hole but per green in regulation it is 2.04. Official handicap is 10. 7 off the yellows.
