I was meaning on here. Do you have conversation setup/I don't have an NHS address, as we're technically a different operating model.![]()
Come to the conclusion that I hate golf and it's a stupid sport!
Hadn't used my driver on the course for months because my slice was so bad it seemed like the ball was almost coming back to me like a boomerang. Spent some time at the range during the week to try and sort out it, ultimately did so but the dispersion was still a bit all over the place but was hitting more fairways/rough just off the fairway so still in improvement.
Played at a new course on Saturday started off pretty well (by my inexperienced standards) on the front 9 - hit pretty much every fairway off my tee shot. Got to about the 13th hole and for some reason everything just went to complete **** off the tee. Didn't change my stance, swing (that I noticed), ball position, tee height, etc. and the slice was back, even on the par 3's using a short iron which I'd say is my strongest part. I only started playing last May-ish so I'm still trying to break 90 and was on track to get close to it but not quite there. Ended up finishing over 100...
Still trying to work out what made the wheels fall off and burst my score. Ironically, it started going wrong when I somehow managed to overhit the green on a drivable par 4 and stuck it in the water. Couldn't believe how straight the ball left my club.
It's a proper love/hate sport that can switch in a split second. It's infuriating but it's definitely one of the most enjoyable sports I've played because of the stuff you've said. The technical side of it is amazing as well with how the most minor/simple adjustment can completely transform your game. Can be having an absolute howler on 17 holes, hating everything then play an absolute blinder on the last that totally shifts your mood.Welcome to golf....
See my weekend round - +1 for first 10 holes..... +11 for next 8 - Go figure.
Don't sweat it - even the bad shots.
I love golf, I enjoy it for the great shots, the chat/banter with your mates, the new clubs, the new courses, the new people you meet in ties. I also love it for the technical stuff, the geeky stuff, and believe it or not - the bad shots/the duffs etc. Even those shots make you try harder/hit a better shot next time to make up. Stick with it and it's super rewarding.
If your already down around 90-100 in a few months - that's great. Mate of mine has been playing 2 years but I think only once has broken 100.
I've had a driving, general irons, and putting lesson to cover all basis which has improved my game. Had the irons lesson a few weeks ago and the pro highlighted that my right leg (I'm right-handed) was straightening on the back swing which was sort of 'lifting' my body up making the downswing a bit wild looking. Keeping a slight flex in my right knee has helped me compress down on the ball and has added about 20 yards on each of my clubs. Rarely used my 6i on the course and that little tweak has me hitting the thing about 200 yards. It's not perfect yet, still sometimes catching the turf behind the ball instead of in front but that should (hopefully!) refine itself over time.Frustrating isn’t it
Consistency is key. Have you ever had a lesson to highlight any errors in your swing?
Once you know what you’re doing wrong it gives you focus at the range to work on fixing it
For how much it annoyed me, I can't wait to get back out on the course!Welcome!
Isn't got hilarious! One minute you're on top of the world, swinging freely, the next your hating life, can't wait to get home.
Such an interesting game, for all sorts of personal reasons.
Don't think I could live without it, now that I play regularly!

He uses all the Trackman stuff and videos you to compare the stats to what's actually happening with your swing, and sends you a video with him talking over it to keep you right. He's got a new job over in Abu Dhabi as a senior teaching coach so going to need to find someone new which sucks as I have loads of confidence with him.
played again today and shot 83. Hitting a good run of form, chipping and putting being drastically improved.Slashed handicap incoming...Nice play.
Saying that, you'd not be allowed out alive from my place with a net 63....![]()

I've got over 20 cards in on EG and they are all 88 and under now and i went from 20.3 to 19.7 with the 82 however i'm expecting maybe 19 on the nose tonight when it updates. The slope rating isn't very high at my local course (118) i'm assuming as its not super long but its pretty tricky and narrow, its harder than some higher slope ratings I've played that's for sure but makes getting my hcap down harder without shooting some absurdly low scores. I played Seaton Carew a couple of weeks ago and played to +19 which wasnt bad but annoying as i was +6 through 9 and never played links beforenice - did you get a cut ?
83/82 in back to back round off 19 is impressive - wouldn't like to play you in a matchplay at the moment!!![]()

Super jealous!! I love new gear!Well look at what's arrived ready for the weekend
<snip>
Sounds like you're smashing it lately mate, keep at it. Playing golf without thinking about the score is by far the best way to play good golf for me. Very difficult to do unless I'm in a fourball, to keep me preoccupied lolPlayed with my Dad tonight - First time i've played golf with him in years (Been a tough time due to my mum's illness for him)
His home club is literally 90 seconds walk from my front door.
Course in great condition, greens were outstanding. Just playing on the yellow forward tees and having a chat/golf on a lovely night etc - Dad playing for his 1st handicap card since rejoining.
Wasn't really thinking about my score much until I finished up - Drive, hybrid at 18th and lipped out for eagle (484 yards)
Anyway - out in 5 over - with a triple and a double on the card. Back in +1 with a double bogie and two birdies for +6 overall.... Again very happy with that - zero drama golf at the moment (apart from the lost ball for the triple on 3)
Just very solid, no drama golf at the moment.... enjoying it. I've no doubt I'll hate the sport in 3/6 months time when it all goes down the pan.....
Our big Open comp this weekend on Sunday coming and then doubles match on Monday - quarter finals.
I watched a lot of Rick Shiels' stuff but it didn't translate all to well for me on the course or at the range - met him at The Open on the Sunday, really nice guy! Didn't really have the knowledge to refine it back then but a bit more clued up now.Regarding lessons have you ever looked at various YouTube videos and tried some tips from there?
I always watched Marc Crossfield years ago as I have only ever had 2 lessons (they were this year) and just tried everything Marc taught in his videos.
I used to go upo the range at least twice a week. 100 balls each time and just practiced strike. Trying not to hit the ground first. I was never concerned where the ball went to start with. It was more about hitting the ball first and not the matt. Once I felt I had this at least 80% mastered I worked on my accuracy. Obviously being an amature we get better/worse each time but it helped me massively when getting into golf.
