Playing the Grove next week... Been a dream of mine since i watched Tiger there a couple of years ago, can't wait!

I played the Grove day before my wedding (June 26th) Truly awesome.

TIP 1: Get loads of practice in on the putting green before hand.....The greens are the best i have played!

TIP 2: First hole is not as long as it seems ;)

TIP 3: Experience the driving range :D

TIP 4: Try not to let your heart sink when you are playing your 2nd / 3rd shot and then walk past the Plauqe that says TIGER DROVE TO HERE FROM THE TEE!!!!!! :p

TIP 5: ENJOY, it is an unbeleivable course :D

Not played The Grove, but i know what you mean about the driving ranges. Played Wentworth at that was fantastic. Was even better when one of the members took us down to the free practice area, lot's of little pyramids of balls all set up, went to hit a few to find they were all Pro V1's!!

Got it in one, The Grove is no different lol

Oh nearly forgot another tip

TIP: Get as many TEE's as you can fit in your grasp!!! LOL they are lovely and a nice show off piece when playing with friends :D

Wentworth is on my hit list. would love to play one of the courses.

Anyone going out to Villamoura in Portugal, I can HIGHLY reccommend the FALDO Course!!!!!! WORTH every penny and is better than the Grove!!

Thanks for the tips, i intend to make the most of the day. I will arrive early and enjoy the experience.... I guess the greens are like lightning, no excuses round there :)

Woot! Handicap cut to 13 :D

Congrats :)

How long have you been playing, and what have you changed to get it down?

I've been playing for a very long time and have been much lower than this but then had to cut down on the frequency so the touch goes and the strike goes and then the scores get worse and the anger goes up and the frustration builds until the feel goes and the strike goes etc. etc.

Practising at the range makes it worse because mats are nothing like turf.

So I started taking a 9-iron to the park when I took my kids and while they were on the swings I hit a few balls with the 9 off the turf to practise one thing: ball-turf-divot, ball-turf-divot, ball-turf-divot.

: ball-turf-divot, ball-turf-divot, ball-turf-divot.

Something i have just started to work on more :) Agreed with the range, a fan of the range for Swing mechanics but not the finer details.

One thing that i have noticed more, local parks (3 that i have seen so far) have now got greens on them with flags.....! Admittedly they are not going to be anywhere near the same as a golf course but for practicing, to have something to aim for is great :)

Anyone have this happen in their local park?

Nope, ours has a basketball court, football pitch, go cart track, cricket club and a lake for boating. I don't suppose the local bowls society would be happy with me pitching onto their green :D

Luckily the local club is very nice and has grass practice areas as well as the range.

LOL i think you should start a petition, by the sounds of it they cater for every other sport ! LOL

Admittedly our local park has these greens with flags, however, if i was caught in this paticular area with a golf club in hand i am likely to be arrested.........the area is the arm pit of the UK!

:D

I have a weird question:

So handicap, once established, can be cut by being in different categories and after a certain point leads to only 0.1 per medal.
What if you believe this takes forever for your handicap to reach its true level and want to just submit three cards and have a massive cut to your true handicap?

Well the thing is when you join a club if you haven't had a handicap beforehand, they usually ask you play 3 rounds and then give them the cards and they average them out and thats your starting handicap. This way it theoretically shouldn't be miles away.

Also where are you getting to only 0.1 per medal? If your under 5.4 (which is the 0.1 category) and you shoot 0, thats 5 under for your handicap, therefore you will get cut 0.1, for each shot. Therefore you'll be down to 4.9. Its never limited to say you can only come down by 0.1, its still based on your score. Likewise if your off 11.2 and you shoot 6 over, you'll get cut the same 5 shots, but at .2 and end up at 10.2

Hope i've helped you out a little but i wasn't 100% sure what you are after :D

Just to clarify, these 3 rounds have to be with members of that club, not just your mates :p

Yes of course, don't see the point in cheating your own handicap, people will see right through it when you play and more importantly prove you to be a dishonest man.

Oh its for each shot! Thanks :)
And as an aside, I thought the max you could go up was 0.1?

Yes, the max you can go up is 0.1 per round, with a buffer zone, depending on your catagory..

What you get cut by, as said above, varies according to what catagory you belong to (1,2,3,4)...

Catagory 1 - 0.1 - 5.4 = 0.1 per shot +1 buffer

Catagory 2 - 5.5 - 12.4 = 0.2 per shot +2 buffer

Catagory 3 - 12.5 - 20.4 = 0.3 per shot +3 buffer

Catagory 4 - 20.5 - 28.4 = 0.4 per shot +4 buffer

Sorry, one more question, can you hand in a card for any round signed by another member for this to take effect, or only in medals?
