Used to be interlock, but found it was causing a lot of tension in my fore-arms and shoulders and played with a fade with bad shot a slice, switched to overlap and now after a little more work am playing a draw with the bad shot a snap hook (just not as often as the slice!). Overlap really has relaxed my arms and shoulders though.

Cart bags, really any of the Powerkaddy range are quite good, i've got a Nike Tour cart bag that is good too, lots of pockets and fits well on the trolley.

Played yesterday at Woburn on the Marquess Course, went round in something stupid like 95 but it was a fantastic course, some of the holes were just brilliant when stood on the tee. The greens were all so true and the ball rolled nicely, not quite as quick as I was expecting but they were quicker than most courses I have played.

It's damn expensive but a really good round of golf if you ever get the chance.

Been invited twice to play there now for free, but both times have clashed with holidays. Still on my list of courses to play.

Have serious problems with slicing quite badly. I'm playing this friday and i need to sort it out. Any ideas? (Apart from have a lesson as i've done that and it seemed to make it worse :p)

Close hands on impact. When your arms are horizontal (post impact), the club should be pointing back down at the point that the ball was before you struck it.

Also check the arc of your swing (club head pointing to target at top of swing).

Could you explain this one further for me if possible?

At the top of your backswing, the line of the club should be pointing at the place you are trying to hit the golf ball.

To be fair it makes little difference where the club is at the top of your backswing - just look at Jum Furyk (SP), the most important part is your downswing (look at the differences here http://www.golfdigest.com/instruction/2009/04/jimmclean_masters_swinganalysis but notice on the downswing they are all about on plane and all result in decent shots). You need to make sure your not coming over the top out to in and also making sure your releasing the club correctly.

If you can get a video of your swing, often what you feel like you are doing is not what your actually doing, in order to correct things you end up feeling like your going to far the other way.

I think he's the exception rather than the rule, and for someone trying to hone their swing, it's a widely taught method (the position that the club should be in at each part of the swing).

To say that it doesn't matter where the club is positioned at the top of the swing is just bizarre. It's this position that partially dictates the arc of the rest of the swing. It's like saying it doesn't matter that your arm is vertical and straight when playing snooker, just look at Joe Swayle.

My pro had me imitating Furyk last night to try to cure a fault where on the take back i was too far behind my body when swinging with the irons causing a strong draw/hook when i got my timing wrong as the club was getting stuck behind my body and i cuoldn't get my hips out of the way in time. By imitating him it kept the club in front of my body more which gave me more time to clear my hips on the swing through.

The bigegst cause i ever had for a slice was that i started my transition (front swing) with my shoulders by moving the right shoulder first, this caused me to come out to in across the ball, by practicing with the 'Ringing the bell' move (i.e. to start the transition from back swing to strike, i had to pull down with my hands and press my right heel into the ground) it meant that my shoulders were more pasive and i wasn't getting the out/in swing that causes a bad slice.

Maybe "doesn't matter" is taking it too far, but if you take the top 100 then maybe 40+ of them don't have a text book swing, what the club does through impact is the main factor in what the ball does.

Played 18 holes today, wow it was a hard course.

Tee shots - Always going right
Iron play - Always going right
Short game - Saved my bacon!

Played match play (granted i lost by 4) but it was dam close until the last 4 holes lol!

My short game, from around 40yards to the pin was brilliant. Three chips, each around 20-25 yards from the hole actual decided to rim the pin and spin around it, i was gutted !

Whereabouts did you play Andrew, seems as though you're progressing quite well :)

Played 18 holes, following on from sundays 78 (net 60) today shot a 77 (net 59) seems i am hitting the ball pretty well recently.

A net 59 means nothing unless we know the par of the course, you could be playing on a pitch and putt :p

I played the Old course at Hawkstone again today and shot a gross 77 (net 69) par 72. Beautifull day for it, and if it wasn't for a bloody triple on the fourth it could have been an exceptional round. It's typical I seem to be coming into the best form I've had for a while and it's right at the end of the good weather and light nights

Im not bud, im getting worse lol ever since i had lessons to fix my slice its got worse. I know my faults, it's just trying to work on them!

Short game even though ive had no lessons on it seems to be getting better.

edit: Just so you know the game yesterday seemed to give me mind sunstroke, i didn't wear a hat and only had a small amount of water. Felt sick and had a terrible heache since, guys...wear a hat and drink water!

just finished mornings medal.

81 less 11 for net 70. Hit the ball well, but criminal finished with 4 bogies in a row to finish!!!

CSS = 72 so a small cut again for me. Started at 12.9 for the year (i think) should be 10.5 after today!! Wish the season was starting now!!!

Playing this afternoon at Birchwood Park and will have my 11-year-old caddying for me :) Trying to get him into the game.

Played pretty well, first nine holes took 2 and three-quarter hours tho' so we then did the first nine again and still got stuck behind a fourball who simply shold not have been on a golf course. Nor were they interested in letting us through so we missed out a couple of holes and finished having only played 16.

Slow play is the curse of the modern era!
