So with all the new drivers which have arrived recently what are peoples favourite looking drivers. Not performing as we haven't hit them personally.
I've not seen them in the flesh but visually in pictures my order would be:
  1. Stealth
  2. Callaway
  3. Cobra
  4. Titlist
  5. Ping
Cobra/Titlist are joint 3rd as personally I like the Carbon Fibre Shell on the Cobra but the Matt Black simplicity of the Titlist suits my eye.

In the flesh standing over the ball these could all change other than the Ping. Too much going on, on the top of the club for me.

Personally I prefer the blue of the Callaway(/Paradym) to the red of the Stealth 2.0, but other than that I like the list... I forgot previously as well that TaylorMade did actually offer some custom colours of the 'old' Stealth, so if they did/do that again that would change things :p

That's insane!
Hope they get a new one sent out on the same day.

I've got a lesson booked for Friday. (£60/hr for a PGA professional on trackman)
Be good to have a professional look and tell me something about my swing. I'm hoping to make this a regular occurrence so that I can work out where my power leaks are (and start to put everything I've learned together, to form the ultimate striking machine)

Just got back from the range, knew after the lesson I needed a practice so went and spent an hour or so going through 60 balls, probably need to do more really but the new setup and trying to swing differently it all feels new/wrong/'tight' again like when I first started so 60 was probably the right number :p

Felt ok-ish, very inconsistent (more so than before) but towards the end started to get kinda ok, my last one was pretty nice too, straight down the middle and maybe around the 175yd line without putting anywhere near a full power swing in there... Hard to say how it actually was though without the numbers/tracker and forgot to take the camera to film it... It's raining constantly now till I play on Friday so not sure I'll get out again, gonna be an interesting game :D

Looking at another course today with regard to membership. Haven't played at my current course since early Oct due to conditions so enough is enough.

going to https://www.hagleygolfclub.co.uk/
have used the range some 15 years ago but always found the atmosphere to be very "snooty". New owner from 2018 and a lot of investment into the course has it played almost 365 days a year. Other than last two days due to the torrential rain the course is fully open.

Also they have a couple bays which use Foresight Golf launch monitors etc to get some data from your swing which is useful to use.

It's a little frustrating finding a course near me I'm happy with. Main course is Enville but the 1st year joining fee of over £3k is a little steep https://www.envillegolfclub.co.uk/

Are they prescription/do they tint/replaceable lenses?

Played again today, after the lesson tuesday and a pure driver range session trying to get the new swing somewhere close to natural I was kinda expecting it to go terribly, and it pretty much did at the start but actually brought it back with some decent shots and overall hit 109, very happy with that really, hit some lovely drives but also some poor ones, so about as expected really :p

Oh, and I birdied a par 3! Bit of an odd one as it was fairly long (for me, ~155 yards to the middle iirc) and into a strong wind so I hit a driver, thought I'd gone long but actually ended pin high but about 2 feet off the green fairly close to the pin, putted rather than attempt a chip... That green is notorious for being one of the more punishing so pretty much just took a 2 second read and hit the putt not really expecting much but it was perfect :D

TSR fitting/test today at Affordable Golf.

Hit some with my own G425 LFT then hit TSR3 head.

Very nice looking head, - didn't like the Tensei AV Blue shaft at all - no feel to it. Tried HZRDUS Black 4G, much better shaft, solid feel, felt much more stable. Played around and best results actually came from a 1/2 inch shorter shaft with extra 4g weight in the rear. (6.0 flex)

Fitter (Andy from titleist) said I was very consistent with my numbers pretty much bang on 110mph club - 158/160mph ball. (range balls)

Anyway - Think over all TSR3, hZRDUS shaft, 1/2" shorter, A2 setting - was producing around 5-8 yard more carry and around 11-13 more overall than my own G425.

Ball speed up around 4mph on my own current driver.

Certainly not enough to make me want to spend £529 on one, also the G425 will have dropped in second hand price with the new G430 out.

Good to get some validation that my current driver ain't to far away from a good fit. With ongoing swing changes as well - now is not the time to be switching things up.

Will keep an eye out for G430/Cobra demo days over coming months

gotta love a good fitting like that. The titleist boys certainly know how to look after you and really work on your numbers. But for £529 I agree it is far too steep just for an extra 10 yards. The only thing that would sway me is dispersion and consistency in my numbers.

yeah, they are prescription glasses, they do tint and the lenses are interchangeable.

They are not the prettiest glasses on planet earth, but will serve a purpose! :)

Got out for nine holes this afternoon having been to the range a couple of times in the week with mixed results. Generally avoided any completely horrendous shots, had a few topped/thinned. Most pleasing is that I seem to have figured out how to get the right setup with my driver and as a result hit a couple of belters (for me) the best of which carried around 190 yards and reached the bunker I was aiming at but didn't expect to reach :p Got a lesson booked in at the start of February so hopefully I can keep this up.

Out again today for a game, and like last week after a 'good' Friday (109) I had a bit of a 'meh' Sunday (119), not entirely sure why, whether it's a tiredness thing (18 holes walking does take it out of me a bit), or busier so more 'pressure' from other groups, or just variability, who knows :p

Got hit by a ball as well, kinda wondered what that would feel like and now I know! There are two holes (3rd and 12th) that run alongside each other with tees at opposite ends, I often slice right off the tee for the 3rd and land on the 12th and from the 12th end up on the 3rd, so I get it but yeah... They did shout and I tried to spot the ball, possibly should've just ducked and covered my head, it hit me just under the collarbone so top of the pec kinda area, it was a solid thump but not really that bad... Could imagine if it hit the collarbone, or the face/head, it'd be a different story

^ thank goodness it landed on an arear of firmer tissue and not as you say the face or right onto a bone! Closest I've ever been to getting hit was when one hit the the canopy of the umbrella I was holding.

Weather has been the only reason I am not missing golf at the moment - my sciatic nerve and hamstring are not co-operating at all at the moment, although getting better with the physiotherapy I am having, so hopefully I can get back to some practice sooner rather than later

If it had been the middle of summer and warm weather I would have been climbing the walls

I did recently find out that my club are getting Srixon clubs added to their options, so I am interested to look at the new Z Forged Mk II blades as I have not been a fan based on the pictures I have seen online - maybe performance will change my mind, but I definitely prefer the look of my Z Forged blades at the moment

Just got back from my second 1-on-1 lesson, last week we focussed on driver and I wasn't (and still not) particularly happy with my performance after that really, very variable/inconsistent and with no real hints of distance improvement (hit a 200 yard drive over the weekend but could do that before, also hit lots of slices which I could do before as well :p). I was even thinking beforehand that I might not book another/take a couple of weeks to focus on what we've gone over so far and gaining some consistency.

But... Today we focussed on the 8 Iron, I was doing some practice sessions and he filmed me and showed me my swing and you can see the out to in path I have(/had?) quite visibly. He then put a box down almost touching the club at address so if I did out to in I'd be hitting the box before/instead of the ball, but obviously without tracking at that point. Then the box was removed and he put down an alignment stick to help me (angled slightly in to out but behind the ball so at impact it would be at or close to 0 degrees if that makes sense). I basically then just hit lots of shots with him giving pointers here and there, adding a sticker to see where the impact was, and obviously getting the tracking to see the numbers.

Even my best last week, with the driver, was around 5 degrees out-to-in but today really improved that further, to the point of even hitting a fair few shots in-to-out, I probably should've tried to get a table or something afterwards but it felt like the swings I was happy with at least (e.g. didn't feel they were bad) were maybe in the +/- 2 degrees range, but also a fair few inside 1 degree either side. Then especially towards the end my strikes just kept getting better with my 3rd to last shot being 162 yards total with a club path of 0.3 degrees in-to-out leading to a ball path of 0.3 degrees left, it was beautiful and really surprising. There were several other 150+ yard strikes as well...

According to Garmin my stats since getting the club tags has my 8 Iron at 91 yards average and 112 yards max, admittedly that is in winter when the ball isn't rolling at all basically but still  If I can translate todays hits to the course it'd be ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous :p

Also I love getting the numbers. So close to ordering that Garmin launch monitor, it's so cool to see. Or just go to that simulator outside of a lesson (an hour for £30 iirc).

Finally, they had a delivery of the Paradym drivers/woods so got to see one in the flesh and it was almost kinda disappointing as that lovely blue colouring was a bit 'meh' when not being lit, I guess on a sunny day it'd probably be quite visible but yeah, would like it a bit more blue if that makes sense, from like 30 seconds looking at it :p
