Golf Thread

We talked earlier in this thread about getting something sorted for next year. Still have to say, that if you are not a member of a club then set yourself up on mulliganplus.com and you can enter your scores to keep track of your handicap and also add friends so you can see how they are doing. It also lets you arrange games too. Means we could see what location we are all in and who would be best to have a round with.

If your anywhere round leeds/west yorks then i can play pretty much anytime with a bit of notice.

I'm already using accelgolf.com at the moment as i get the blackberry app which allows me to access courses etc whilst playing and then submit my card at the end of the round :)
I am near Cambridge but do travel around so we should deffo arrange a meet with a few people and have the "OCUK OPEN" lol

Anyone have special golf insurance ? About a month ago i had my set stolen from the car and they were not covered on any insurance so had to spend out on clubs again! Just wondering what people use as i am about to sort some out.

I'd be up for having a few rounds with some people next year, well as long as I have some equally bad players as myself anyway :o:D

How did the links golf go? Did you change out any clubs in your bag, especially interested if you put in some lower bounce wedges?

The course i played was Thorpness

Well what can i say.......an Interesting round :D was probably the most challenging round i have had to date. No margin for error at all!!! The fairways are very tight and do not give any mercy. I slight miss hit drive would leave your second out of Heather !!! or Gorze. Having said that it was a very enjoyabel round and i would reccommend playing there. Espcecially with the House in the clouds as you play to the 18th Green (Which i Birdied :D)

In answer to yoru question, i changed nothing :( But going back to play links golf again i would leave the driver and use a 4 replacement high-bred in order to keep it low and accurate :D

here is a picture of my father in law on the 18th Green :)

I have some pictures which i will post two more awesome ones once they are up and ready

So, anyone here entering the william hunt trilby tour next year? I've registered and am about to pay my deposit, looked like good fun on the telly this year, plus if you do sign up to play in one of the qualifiers you get a william hunt outfit and a callaway tour bag for your £250 entry fee (plus the chance to play at least one decent course, more if you go through!)

Sounds interesting?? Never heard of

Can i be lazy and ask for some link info ??
:D

Looks awesome :D I think i have a way to go yet before even considering something like this :(

what do you play off kefkef out of interest?

Not got an official handicap (something i need to sort out before that next year!). It also depends who i play with, currently off 14 with the usual saturday morning roll-up crowd, got as low as 12.5 this year, but all fell to pieces and steadily creeping up. Highest i play off is 22 with the pub society, but you have to spend 2-3hrs in the pub before going out on the course and also have the obligatory 4 pack for the trek round, very rarely do i even play to 22 on those days (only one round have i managed to skip all the drinking and shot 49 points off a 22 hcp! haha) :D

WOW that is a varied handicap  LOL

I have sent the link to my father in law is a keen golfer, was in the final of the Groves BACK TO BLACK comp. Because he could not make it they have given him a bi through to next years final so cant wait to go and watch that.

I have only played in one comp and i was a bit of a bandit and played off of 28.......that day i had a great round and played to an 18! lol Our team came second :D
It was a lovely course called Brampton Park, apparently it has one of the hardest PAr 3 holes in the country...........didn't find it that difficult as i landed on the edge of the green with a 4 iron LOL

You will definitely have to keep us posted next year and let us know how you get on :) Personally i think OCUK should give you a Polo Shirt to wear in case you get on TV :p

Had a lesson, well two this week.
First didn't go too well, had introduced some faults into my swing, so that half hour was "wasted".
Second went better, had a short game lesson on the techniques of chipping and pitching.

Had three hours practice today and can chip to within a foot for about 20-25 paces away. :)

That is awesome Sukh :D

I loved my pitching and chipping lesson, such a buzz when you start dropping by the pin.

As for the lesson that you thought was wasted, be prepared.
My Father in law, 11 handicapper. Just has series of lessons with a pro. He went back to shocking rounds whilst the changes took place. They may feel wasted, they may feel like he has pulled you apart but stick with it and it comes good ;) Father in law is now playing to an 8

That's excellent. Now you need to make it count on the course though, which as I am sure you know is a different kettle of fish altogether. :D

It's something well worth working on though, pitching and putting. I waste so many shots per round with dodgy pitch/chip shots. Really need to put some work in soon. I would say if I could sort out my short game I honestly think I could drop about half of my current (24) handicap.

Played a round last week and hit a lot of greens in regulation. As a result I had 2 birdies, several pars and finished 12 over gross.

I have no doubt the main reason for the decent score was because I didn't have to pitch/chip around the greens, so I know I am capable of a lot lower handicap once I sort out the short game.

For the remainder of this year though I just plan to enjoy it and get out as often as possible without worrying too much about scores. Next season I plan to put in a lot of work and get the handicap well down.

Whilst you mention putting Diggsy, an all round good tip for anyone.

Record how many putts you make during your round, this is an interesting stat to work on....like they say.....

Drive for Show......PUTT for doe! :D
