What are you guys using to measure the speed? I was looking a bit ago and see the company that makes the speeds sticks also has the 'PRGR' launch monitor, not as featureful as something like the Garmin R10/Rhapsodo MLM2 but a bunch cheaper, especially if you were buying the speedsticks anyway...

Exactly that. PRGR is what I use. I tend to only use it for swing speed measuring, the distance measuring isn't very accurate IMO.

yeah - My mate got them off someone who used them for a bit and then stuck them in the garage... Will have a play with them but I'm not going to be seriously training my speed at 47 years old!

Played on Tuesday and had a fairly solid round until last 5 holes when it all blew up. Finished with an 85 but my last 5 holes.
Par 4 bogey. Par 3 Par, Par 4 Triple Bogey, Par 4 Bogey, Par 4 Double Bogey. So in 4 holes I dropped 8 shots

Where as my playing partner had the round of his life and shot a 2 Under 69. Absolute joy to watch.

Also, Mr Cameron has shipped my new putter and should be with me tomorrow

Nice! What did you go for in the end?

Bit random perhaps but a while back I put my name on the waiting list for joining the Bristol golf club I play at pretty regularly, 'usually' twice a week, £20 for Friday and £22 for Sunday, not exactly sure on membership cost but it's less than doing that every week :p

Seems a slot has opened up (w00t) but now I'm wondering how that works with England Golf/WHS considering I'm already/also a member at my local 9 hole club. Probabably planning to keep both but do you need to specify one as a 'home club' and/or what differences would that make?

Of course this is assuming anyone else is silly enough to pay for membership at two clubs

Played yesterday evening and seemed like I'd never played golf before. Started double, bogey, double; lost 4 balls in the first 5 holes. Not ideal...
Haven't drilled the changes in from my lessons yet, and got spooked when out on the course and reverted to old thoughts; leaving me in no man's land.

Incredibly annoying as played a round on my sim the evening prior and was flushing the ball. Put the pressure of losing a ball and all the visual noise on a real course, however, and I fell apart; trying to guide the ball around rather than trusting the swing.

Was in an almost identical position last weekend. It's the danger of hitting off mats I think. They're so forgiving and it cons your brain into thinking you're ready to shed 8 shots.

Yep, that's why we play there almost exclusively :p :D
That's a crazy price for in season. The cheapest place near me which is an executive course, doesn't have a club house, a pro or even a shop (you pay in the restaurant attached) still charges £30 on a weekend, though that's a flat rate across the year.

Is your place well maintained and have plenty of people through the door? Can't imagine how they're paying for greenkeepers and the like at that price if they don't get the traffic.

It's pretty well maintained, hard to say as I'm so new to the game but been at both better and worse courses. Facility wise it's kinda basic, the clubhouse bar is seemingly never open so you can buy bottled drinks and sausage rolls and that's about it, practice they've just put up 2 nets and there's a putting green but no chipping/bunker practice and no range.

But still like you say it's very cheap so they seem to get the traffic easily enough, weekends especially it's pretty busy but also never really too bad. It's right next to the M4/M5 junction so easy to get to from all around basically, and 2 18-hole courses to pick from.

Quite interesting, I wonder how it'll work with cost etc, a chunk of electronics + battery in the ball must cost a bit...

And recycling/re-use, if the cover of the ball gets damaged does it just get thrown away or will they offer to recycle in some way. Obviously this is for the future versions that do more than just putting.

Any course recommendations for the East Midlands or the east side of the west midlands for an new guy?

My go to for an evening round is edwalton par 3, super quick nine hole and I’ve played it enough for it to be my improvement benchmark. Played 18 at Stonebridge over the weekend and the course itself is miles ahead I’m quality which was nice. Ruddington grange is basically on my doorstep and looks beautiful but looks like it could be tough, same with the Nottinghamshire.

Off to Essex this weekend to see some mates and play down there as well. This game has well and truely hooked me, played a round or been to the range everyday since Sunday and I’m booked to play everyday till Tuesday now!

well..my second net came this afternoon, spent about two hours setting it up and how to get it functional..**** me it was a struggle. I got it in the end, but doesnt look very pretty (who cares though!). At least now I cannot shank in to the fencing now, its not just that damage, its also if it rebounded and hit me, could be nasty..

Then before dinner I spent about 50 minutes to do nine balls with the similar (RPT tech), gonna get some more from American Golf tomorrow and get a good amount, rather than using one ball at a time..
