  1. "Don't slice it this time"
  2. "This is a narrow fairway, don't ya think?"
  3. "Wow, can you see the break in that putt? A tricky one" - when it's dead straight ...or is it?
  4. Don't give him a gimme once he's already given you one for a similar putt.
  5. Accidentally stand on his line, just before he's going to putt. (bit harsh)
  6. Talk in his backswing

right guys..

My "final" iteration of my setup is now done. I feel much more confident with protection on the right to stop the damage / pin balling, if it ever happens. I couldn't do much to the corner to attach them, but it works well enough so im happy. And the net over stones is great as it "saves" the balls without dropping straight onto the stones..

It does take about 5-10 minutes to setup and take down, but I think well worth it, and gonna try a lot over the weekend, as im going to my first round of my new club on Monday!

Played in the roll up again this morning. Somehow scored much better than last week (103 a PB by two shots) despite feeling my ball striking was terrible. Helped a lot by two great puts for par from 15-20 feet on seventeen and eighteen.

Got off to a bad start when my tee shot at the first, 3w, went into a line of trees that separate the first and eighteenth fairways. Despite four of us looking we couldn't find it. First of many lost balls today :( Had to pick up for a seven. Front nine was very scruffy in general and I was really struggling with my driving today, too slicy. Out in 55.

Back nine started much better. Par on ten and bogey on eleven. Had three pars on the back side, four in total which was another record. Driving was still sketchy and I discovered plenty of new too me penalty areas and OB! A good education at least in where not to hit it. Despite this I somehow came back in 48.

One more card to go and I'll have a handicap. I'm told it will be my best of the three that counts, then two from four, three from five etc. Until I get to the stage where its my best eight out of the last twenty. So presently looking at 31 at worst. Maybe with some luck I can break 100 next week and start off with something that begins with a 2 :p

In the meantime I need to purchase some more balls.

Local Open today, course close to my house, Dad is a member at it. - Breezy conditions but green were phenomenal - so pure, so quick, a total delight to putt on. Holed some excellent putts today. Happy with that.

Lost a ball at 5, too aggressive with approach and it hopped over the back of the green and I didn't realise it was a jungle back there (local knowledge would have been useful!!)

Nice bounce back birdied at the next. Had a 10ft putt on 17 for birdie and a 8ft on last for bridie as well but just missed them both.

Great way to play local course for next to no money - £15 for Open - Weekend prices normally around £45/50.

82 less 8 for 74. Not winning anything but happy to score fairly well at an "away" course.

If anyone spots any good deals on balls please post. Just been having a quick look online.

£24 for 48 balls seems too good to be true. Anyone have any experience with these?

I use them for my golf (or will be) as a cheap option against "tatty" balls...they are OK.

for my outdoor sim I have used the new Bridgestone Treo Soft balls, and they are really good value for the money, at American Golf right now at two (12 packs) for £30.

well been range and shanking everything again lol, i give in :( tried all kinds of things and cant get it back maybe time off to reset will help

I know where your coming from mate, the shank really is a killer in confidence for sure.

But keep at it, time to reset might help, but in a sport like golf it’s so hard to knock off the cobwebs when having a break.

Whilst i understand cost is always important to consider - don't go cheap on balls.

Have a look on facebook market place for balls. I would consider something like Srixon AD333 balls or alike.

both these guys sell quality seconds.... excellent condition etc.

Something like Titleist Trufeel at £12 a dozen is good value. Just ask in their groups - they sell 1000's of balls.

^ thanks, something to consider when I stop losing so many, or play a course with less water.

Having lost around 10 in my first two rounds in the roll up and after reading/watching some reviews I popped into town earlier and got some V300. Definitely not as soft as the Wilson Duo Soft+ I got last time but feel OK and I won't be sweating the cost next time I put one in the water. Packaging and brand name alone probably accounts for 10p a ball saving.

I've used the Slazenger V300 a few times, never bought any but found a few :p It's an OK ball really, the V100 though is utter garbage...

Talking balls I bought some Srixon Ultisoft a bit over a week ago and played with them the first time today, bought them kinda on a whim but been playing and liking the Srixon Soft Feel and seen a few places offering a '4 for 3' on Srixons, quite liked them overall so probably gonna pick some of them up. They're not immune to being lost though, that's what the manufacturers should work on :p

Wasn't sure how today would go, Monday evening my back properly went whilst reaching into the washing machine, Monday evening, Tuesday and Wednesday were lost in a blur of pain and suffering but the pain stopped Thursday and I tested it at the range Friday without issue so went today but used a buggy to ease the load/be able to call it a day if my back went again. Thankfully the back was fine.

Scored my best round in a good while, on the 'harder' course I scored 105, that's +34, my previous best on that course is 111 :)

Ball is just going so far these days, I hit a 258 yard drive and before today my best was 221 which was one of those fluky ones, hit 5 drives further than that 221 mark today.

Putting could've been better, properly shanked the ball 3 times, few poor shots but overall very happy with the day :D

I was actually close to breaking 100, I had 10 shots to play with over the last 2 holes and just threw it away, wasn't really keeping track at the time (my playing partner was though, didn't tell me though) but just had a feeling, front 9 was 51 and the back 9 was 'going well' so the thought crossed my mind... I think it's gonna be one of those things where I throw it away occasionally but then I'll get it and find it 'easy' after...

Lost in a tie last night - didn't play great but literally couldn't putt/chip with the greens being so slow compared to the day before....

Both of us said the same thing. Honestly don't think either of us hole a putt outside 5 ft all night.

It was embarrassing to see our greens this bad... Literally awful. So slow, so bumpy etc compared to the day before at another course not 5 miles away. I know the greenkeeper is "protecting" the greens by keeping them longer at the moment due to the upcoming warm weather and lack of proper watering system but that was shockingly bad yesterday.
