Back from my round today and got my best round ever, but still not broken 100 :p Todays score was a 103, or +32 \o/

Kinda weird how got 3 scores pretty similar in the last week (105, 105, 103) but very different ways to get there...
  1. Last Sunday, 105, great off the tee 58% fairways, 17% GIR, poor putting at 2.4 putts per hole average
  2. Friday, 105, terrible off the tee 8% fairways, 6% GIR, stunning putting at 1.8 putts average
  3. Today, 103, 'meh' off the tee 15% fairways, 11% GIR (Garmin has some rounding fun) and 'ok' putting at 2.1 putts average

Got the week off work now and seems like I've signed up to play Tuesday and Wednesday, both on the 'easy' course, trying not to think about what I could score...

Weather was borderline too hot for walking, toasty toasty warm, definitely gonna be buggying it up in a few weeks once it gets to high-20's or above. I'm more a -5c type of guy :p

Also, why do we put ourselves through winter golf, it's so much easier these days :p

Yeah, I complain when it’s too hot then when it’s cold I complain it’s too cold.

I never complain about the cold, I remember playing back in December, the ground was frozen, think the forecast was for 3c max during the day, by the 3rd hole I took my jacket off :p

I complain when it's just miserable and rainy

Managed a 94 (24 over, bang on handicap) yesterday with @-westy-

We were paired up with 2 others, the younger one was a self entitled, sarcastic little ****. When they decided to call it after 14 our playing miraculously improved :D

If anyone spots any good deals on balls please post. Just been having a quick look online.

£24 for 48 balls seems too good to be true. Anyone have any experience with these?
Seems the cheapest around, but is that because they are poor? Is an amateur/beginner like me going to feel the difference between these and some premium super sorts? I don't like losing expensive balls but equally I don't want to hamper my abilities from the off by cheaping out.

First round in 2 weeks tomorrow. Started to develop a bit of golfers elbow which thankfully seems to have faded away for the time being...

Just going to take the irons with me, hit 5 iron off the tee and work on dialing in the distances everywhere else.

They're not terrible, I'd say a mid-range from like Srixon/Bridgestone/whoever is better but it's not some massive difference. I'm currently really liking the Srixon UltiSoft but I don't think using a V300 would change that much.

Played a few holes with them at the weekend. They felt fine to me as a high handicapper. For close to 1/3 the price per ball that I'd paid previously I certainly wasn't complaining, especially when I hit two in a row into the drink!

Got my Iron fitting tomorrow, looking forward to it :)

Been looking at what irons I might specifically want to try and got a list of three so far:
  1. Wilson Dynapower
  2. Mizuno JPX923 Hot Metal (maybe HL given a slower swingspeed...)
  3. Srixon ZX-4 Mk2
Kinda basing that somewhat off looks really, at least the last 2, Wilsons seem to look ok but the sole is huge!

Any others I should really consider?

Obviously all the big brands have 'game improvement' irons, and happy to try them if the fitter suggests them but none seem to stand out, except the Wilsons due to the stupidly jacked lofts :p (and getting good reviews with it)

Also want to try graphite shafts cause why not. Maybe some grips, although mostly I kinda want to try the Golf Price MCC+4 cause they do a version in Orange, and who doesn't want Orange grips :D

Going to try and squeeze some twilight golf in this week. What do you think the latest you will be able to still see your ball will be? Assuming its clear and bright like forecast.

Booked a 17:45 tee time and hoping to squeeze in 11-12 holes.

Thanks

Personally, I wouldn't 'consider' anything - just go in, try what you try, and narrow it down from there instead of having an idea of what you want. I did this and I'd like to think it stopped me from making the wrong choice based on what I liked the look of and to not try and convince myself that they were the clubs I wanted. I wasn't overly fussed on what brand - I just wanted what worked best and came out with the Cobra Radspeed irons a couple of years ago.

The shafts and grips should also be part of the fitting.

I tried to convince myself that I wanted the Taylormade Spider GT putter last year giving it the whole "well yeah, but I can learn to get used to it' even though I didn't like the feel of it at all, whereas the Odyssey Eleven worked for me straight away. Luckily the guy I got fitted with is a friend who told me straight! :D

I played on my own a few weeks back, last tee time which was 6pm - played 11 holes, had to dash for other reasons, but there was still plenty of light; imagine I could have got round 18 fairly comfortably. That was, at most, about 1hr30 for 11 holes.

That's a fair point, it's really a 'want to try' than 'want to buy' but yeah, I should try any/all that I'm suggested and pick the best... The fitter is the guy that does my lessons so quite happy with his suggestions and of course he knows my swing better than I do

I do find looks important though, I didn't really expect to be that guy but one of the reasons I love my 5W is because of the looks (and sound/feel), so I feel good when I take it out the bag and that just seems like it leads to more good shots than bad. Probably all in my head but hey, whatever 'works' :p

yeah, i didnt manage today to get to the golf (long story) but am going tomorrow, i will be doing the same mate, 5 - 6 iron off the tees and then use clubs accordingly. If i get a bit brave and there are no poor souls out there to hit, I might give the driver a bash. Literally! :p

Has anyone else watched the Good Good Championship?
Very good watch for 5 hours of golf. Up and coming pro golfers, amazing skills, great ball striking, well presented. $100k purse up for grabs!

Absolutely. Looks are a crucial part for a lot of people, myself included. You'll come across a set that just clicks with you in terms of performance and looks!

I started but 5 hours is just too long for me :p I like what they're doing with it though.
