So had a look over the round stats, overall I scored 108 (+38) 2 shots behind my best on that course (back to the 'easy' course) but kinda disappointing given my last 3 rounds on the 'hard' course.

Most of my 'good' shots with the new irons off the tee so only somewhat relevant but some nice numbers at least. Hit my new 5i, first time I've had a 5i, 183 yards max and a couple of mid-170's. Hit my PW into a decent breeze 101 yards, reckon that's at least 10 yards of wind. 7i I hit twice and got 126 and 144, think the first wasn't quite going at it.

Really was odd hitting shots without really knowing how long it should go, gonna still take a fair few rounds to really get a decent idea but yeah, overall happy I think, if I can figure out that off-the-deck 'meh'.

Weirdest shot of the day was my gap wedge, 128 yards, no idea how that happened, it was a bit of a downslope but from the rough and the guy who saw it down (it was behind/over trees) said it didn't take a particularly big kick. So yeah... That happened...

Think I may need to tweak my wedges, the Wilson Dynapower PW is 42 degrees, that's a big gap to my 52 degrees, and right now it feels like getting 90-100 out of the 52 is a bit hopeful to say the least, but we'll see. With my old PW I got really comfortable with half shots and stuff, might need to do that with the new one.

I do wonder, if this is news to the likes of Rory and Tiger, what will their reaction to this be? With Phil gloating on Twitter? With superstar players like Morikawa finding out thru Twitter? Did they get Tiger onside first? If they didn't and he comes out against it, what happens?

I doubt Rory cares too much about the money side of things, he's already minted, also earned a whopping $40m last year without LIV, so can't see him moaning about money any time soon.

I think Rory might have known as he stopped taking Liv questions according to the CBS golf podcast. Seeing he has been the face of the the PGA for the last year in this dispute it would have been prudent to tell him at least.

Woke up feeling really grim about the situation this morning and wondering whether I should try and get a refund on my British Masters ticket. Never took an outward stance on LIV outside of just completely avoiding it, but it's all one in the same now.

I think what Rory will be annoyed at will be the fact he was "used" as the face of the PGA tour by Jay Monahan (commisioner) and took it on his shoulders as the main man when "fighting" against LIV - He was then effectively shafted by Jay with this announcement yesterday.

According to many sources - the players meeting last night with Jay was extremely tense and frosty - even going as far as calling for Jay to resign....

It's clear the PIF effectively used LIV for 2 years as a trojan horse - they now have a seat at the top table and LIV will effectively just die at the end of this year..... That's what happens when you have effectively unlimited money i guess.

At the end of the day - it's a golf tournament - go and enjoy it for what it is.

We're just going to have to suck it up as we aren't going to stop watching professional golf - I think long term, it's a good thing for the fans - all pro golfers back under one "roof" and I suspect some kind of team element/series will be introduced into pro golf which will bring another element to it.

There's no question he should resign in my mind. He took a 'principled' stance that effectively had a price and used the big players to shield him whilst he cut a deal behind their backs. I suppose it could be seen as 'savvy', but it's pretty lecherous whichever way you spin it.

I've no doubt it'll be better for us fans, but it still makes me feel icky.

It'll be interesting to see what Tiger does with this. It'll be a good opportunity to retire gracefully.

Not quite as big a gap but my PW is at 43.5 degree, carries around 110 compared to my 52 at 90. I just hit a soft one to fill in that 100 yard shot, or try at any rate :p

Played again today, it was a comp (stableford, but I'm still tracking/thinking about strokeplay) and I got 105 (+35), again kinda disappointing and also seemed a really messy game but the best I've done on that course still.

Hit my best drive of 264 yards \o/ I know it's all down to the ridiculous roll at the moment but still, lovin' it :D Odd thing is yesterday (and the last few games before that) I've been on the struggle bus with the driver, slicing it obvs, then today with no real tweaks it's working again.

I dunno, only very recently got into golf so feel like I could easily say sod it and just not watch tbh... And kinda tempted to... But not gonna make any rash decisions, for a change :p

Yeah, think it may end up something like that. After 2 rounds my PW is averaging 116 (total, I know, should be looking/thinking carry but not got those numbers), 52/GW is 86 over more rounds, but also used for chips/half shots. It's weird cause 100 was a number I was pretty happy with before but now it's kinda scary :p

Got the simulator booked for Tuesday next week and planning to do a 'gapping session', current thinking (not sure Foresight has specific modes for it) is to hit each club until I get say 5 'good' shots, delete the rest, take the averages and move on to the next club. Gonna be interesting to see where everything lies.

A reasonably level headed interview with Mcllroy, considering what he likely could have said.

A very small part of me was hoping that him and the rest of the big dogs would take a more drastic stance and threaten to walk, but hey ho.

A lot better than the Bryson interview on CNN - "Nobody's perfect", in response to some of the more difficult Saudi related questions, incredible.

Out for the usual Friday golf today, it's getting proper warm now :p

On the face of it a good round, 102 or +32, pretty sure that'll drop my handicap below 40 for the first time, it's also like the 6th consecutive round with a good score so that's nice.

BUT! There's always a but. I was on course to fairly easily beat 100 but again I threw it away in the last 2 holes. A par 3 and a par 4, scored 7 and 8. I could've tripled them both and got to 100, so annoying, one day.

Some further positives though:
  • Broke 50 in the front 9 for the second ever time, 48, one more than my PB of 47.
  • Hit a 287 yard drive \o/
  • Chipped in for the first time, and then again for the second time :D:D:D

I don't mind Rick Shiels- he does well for himself and posts some decent stuff on youtube.....

However - his game is awful at the moment for a "teaching" professional and I'm not sure why he continues to post "break 75" videos when I don't think he's broken 75 in months/last year on video etc.

Shoots 85 in his latest video (sorry for spoiler!) - yet persists on posting Break 75 videos...

I dunno, I love his content, him and Guy crack me up and are probably the most fun games to watch.

He’s broken 75 a couple of times recently if I remember correctly, I can see why he posts his 80s though, it’s all part of the break 75 series…every episode is there to attempt at breaking it, not to show us how to break 75 each time. The way I see it is, a teaching pro doesn’t even need to be a scratch golfer, as long as he’s a solid teacher of the game and his strategies are sound.

I watch the foreplay golf YT channel too and Trent has been attempting to break 90 which is awesome and frustrating to watch, especially the latest attempt!

Honestly - if he could putt he would break 90 no bother.... Latest episode I think he had 38/40 putts.... But some of the courses he plays are mental - so difficult. long/super fast greens etc

I knew what was coming on 18 - he stood over the ball so long, you could sense it was coming....

Thought I would post an update.

Had a lesson a couple of weeks ago, my first in approximately a year. My self diagnosis was that I was too shallow in my swing but in an actual reality it had a lack of depth causing my swing to be out of plane and steep resulting in inconsistent strikes and lack of distance.

After some drills which culminated in me stretching some muscles that I didn't know existed and a 150 balls latter I was still unsure and trying to get used to the new swing.

Played a round the following day and my ball striking was superb felling like I had a new swing. The dry ground and swing changes resulted in adding 20 yards of distance to each of clubs. Just a shame my putting was atrocious with seven 3 putts to finish off with a respectful score of 102 for me.

Fast forward a week and back at the range to practice and my swing felt inconsistent again.

The successive round started out fairly decent but reaffirmed the previous range session when it fell apart in the middle with wildly inconsistent strikes leading to a horror score. A bit of work post round in the nets and it seemed like the previous problem had returned, i wasn't rotating the body enough resulting in a steep swing which I couldn't see through the red mist during the round.

Went to the driving range today armed with my previous knowledge and started of with a few hooks but managed to dial that into a consistent draw / straight shot as required. Even managed to hit the driver nicely which has been severely lacking for quite a while now.

So fingers that this swing change will stick for Sundays round meanwhile I've got another lesson booked for a couple of weeks time.
