Good round Saturday despite being burnt to a crisp. Ended up shooting 92.

Continuing to leave Driver out of the bag and just focusing on getting my irons right. Getting to dislike my cavity back Srixons though. Just can't account for distances when you catch 1 out of 4 shots in the sweet spot and it carries a mile further then you accounted for.

Got my iron fitting in a few months time and seriously considering looking into getting a set of blades. I hate the lack of feedback produced by the more forgiving irons and my I just can't trust my distances at the moment, especially when I catch something well.
Isn't blades the exact thing you need to avoid?
Cavity backs are meant to produce roughly the same speed wherever you hit it on the face.
Blades on the other hand are exactly what you describe, only work well if you can hit the middle every time and if you don't, you'll lose a load of distance.

Perhaps it's just my Srixons (they're around 12 years old now), but they're hellishly inconsistent across the board, specifically when you catch them out the middle. I'd rather hit them short then have them fly the green 1 out of every 3 approach shots.
It's the lack of feedback I dislike the most though. Really struggle to feel were I've made contact. I tried my teachers Mizuno MP20s last week and they felt amazing, even on the weaker shots because I knew EXACTLY where the ball had left the face. My averages came down over 30 mins of testing 5 and 6 irons (using GC 3 monitor) compared to my own clubs, but that didn't really bother me because it helped expose the weaker areas of my striking and gave me something to work on.

Loosing distance doesn't bother me half as much gaining sometimes 20-40 yards unexpectedly.

Anyone managed to enter the Ballot today, for the Open next year? it just keeps asking me to make sure my details are up to date which they are and cant seem to progress past it.

Just did mine and it went through fine. I got passed the details bit then it showed my a window with a few pictures and text with 'Continue' down the bottom.

Played on Sunday for the first time in about a month so we decided to do matchplay instead of strokeplay. Front 9 was a bit meh with one tidy par and another almost hole in one - don't know how it never dropped because when you looked at the pitch mark in relation to where the ball landed, it was straight through the heart of the hole.

Back 9 was a lot stronger with a run of par, par, bogey, par. The other holes were mix of doubles and a triple, I think. Wasn't feeling my driver so didn't bother using it much which is tough on the back 9 because 4 of the holes have massive valleys in them. Was difficult to stick the greens with how dry its been up here - had a lie on a hill which sent the ball into the stratosphere with my 60, came down with what should have been a hell of an amount of spin and still bounced off.

Fairly certain I would have been close to breaking my PB had a I kept score but meh, lesson learned for the future.

Not sure what was happening to me but all sorted now thanks. Hope you get your allocation!

Are you boys mental??? @Superpatsy @Khem1st

Prices/Ballot for Open tickets next year at Royal Troon...

Adult - £95 for Thurs/ £100 for Friday/ £105 for Sat and £110 for Sunday

What an absolute disgrace of pricing..... Ludicrous - That's is out of this world pricing.... Like detached from reality.....

(will probably get to do marshalling as a local club, and therefore get in for free but still - I'd be raging if I had to pay that!!!)

Thought about it for a second but didn't even get as far as looking at pricing! wow...

Also just checked green fees at Royal Troon for the lols, £340!

I get on for nothing (£10 in reality) as a guest. Loads of mates of mine are members there. Played it probably 10/12 times

The prices are what i was expecting tbh and comparing it to the last one i went to its about £30 dearer for the sunday. I live 20 minutes away so dont neet to pay for travel or accomadation etc so happy to pay it.

Pretty sure it was about 90 quid for a Friday ticket when I went to St Andrews the year Zac Johnson won. Can't think of many other events where you can rock up at 06:00 and still be watching play after 20:00 :) (edit, pre-cut of course)

I think I'll go in the ballot for myself and my eldest daughter for one of the practice days

I'm not expecting any but thought bugger it, why not! :D

We got Sunday tickets last year so I'd be surprised if we get them for next year. Cross-country trek for us as opposed to a half-hour drive last year.

Due to the weather forecast we cancelled our round of golf today, so I went to range instead. I took a PW, 7i and a 5i, the benefit of watching a few videos was evident from the off, my shots on the whole were so much better. Looking forward to going to the range again at the weekend to see if I can continue the improvement. :)

Doesn't seem out of line for a major sporting event. I paid £155 a ticket (cat A, start of finishing straight) for the world athletic champs held in London 2017. Was a great day out as tied in with my dad's 75th birthday. I did look the other day for tickets to this years champs in Budapest, a third the price!

Few days off this week. Went to the tennis at Eastbourne yesterday with my mum and played golf this morning.

Another milestone achieved as I shot 87 (+16), first time under 90 :) This despite my best efforts to sabotage on 16 &17 when I put both tee shots into the water and made a quad (second 4 putt of the round!) and double.

Shot of the round was a 3w I hit to inside 2ft from 200+ yards on the 5th. Another good one was a squirter off the tee on the 211 yard 8th which found the green. First time I've ever hit that one in regulation. Had nothing worse than bogey going out until a double at the 9th. Coming in was a similar story, a double at the 11th (thanks to a four putt!) then the blow up on 16/17. Par to close out.

41 out, 46 in which reviewing previous score cards is a PB for the front nine and equal PB for the back nine. And to think I really should have been 4 shots better, finding the water on 16, a short par 4, really takes some doing!

Friday golf kinda delayed to today due to lack of participants but out for a round earlier, went 'ok' I guess...

Driver not really working still, went to the range a couple of times during the week and one time the driver was good, other not so much, today was the not so much for the most part :p

Irons though which were kinda terrible beforehand and another reason for the range sessions were pretty solid, so happy about that.

Chipping/putting was reasonable but too many lost shots before that point really. Also made a couple of poor club choices, worst was an 8i into a strong wind, I knew it was wrong on the tee but didn't change it... Just went nowhere.

Tomorrow is another society game at Cumberwell Park, should be interesting, front 9 is the back 9 from last time (they have like 5 9-hole courses that you mix and match) and the back 9 is a new course for me, so yeah, hopefully get the nerves/warmup done on the semi-known holes and then be nicely settled for the new stuff :p

Another frustrating round in the books - inconsistency killing my score again.

Did manage to get my first eagle, though. Elevated tee playing 260ish, loads of bumps and bunkers all the way to the green. Leathered a 5 iron, took good bounce just off the green and crashed into the flag and dropped to about a foot - any other day and that could have dropped for an ace. Feel like I'm destined to get a hole in one on that course. Almost every time I play it, I seem to end up about a foot away from one dropping.

Out again today as mentioned, kinda disappointed with my start, the first 7 holes of the front 9 which I knew were very 'meh', 6 points on stableford, the last two however I par'd (with 2 shots on each) for 8 points in 2 holes...

Then onto the back 9 that was new, also up at the top of a hill, in the wind, which today was gusting upto 30mph apparently. That was fun. One hole in particular was way up the top of the hill playing directly into wind and it was a decent length par 4, struggling is an understatement :p Came back in with 14 points again though for 28, bit meh but far from my worse result in that society, and that's after almost a 10 point cut after the freak round last time.

Again kinda felt I played 'ok', putting was spectacular with faster greens from yesterday, Driver still doing slice-y things, but ok overall I think.

Good game today stroke play medal off the white tees in rather brutal conditions (wind gusts touching 40mph here).

First hole, straightforward par 4, triple bogey lol. Bounced back with a birdie at the next which is a tough par 5 and then played really steady until the 12th...

Hooked my first drive and first provisional into the heavy rough, found the first provisional and hacked out then proceeded to make a further mess of the hole, compounding the initial error with a fluffed green side bunker shot and fluffed chip, scored a 9!

After that played pretty steady and closed the round really well signing for a level net par 71. Eventful!! Could have been so much better if it wasn't for those 2 messy holes, might have been 7 or 8 shots better, d'oh!

Still, happy with the round given the conditions, and typically I play rank in this kind of weather. The counting score will be 3 shots less so that'll be another cut to the handicap.

5 iron?? Even an elevated tee that's an insane distance for a 5 iron
