They’re ok. Have played with Cleveland’s for example. Def a different level there.

Totally agree with testing wedges on different lies outdoors.

When I was getting fitted for wedges once, he switched off trackman, threw balls on the grass outside and said hit some 40/50 yard shots....

Just handed me wedges (I had no clue what loft/bounce/make/model etc) - I liked some, hated some etc. Narrowed it down to the likes etc.

Then after playing around, back to using trackman for some numbers for gapping but to finish it was back outside, on the grass to hit shots as the turf interaction is one of the most important things for wedges. Your own angle of attack etc - as the mats indoors just mask so much with wedges.

That's a fair point... I think the simulator works for sorting out the gapping/full shots, but that's only half the story. Obviously that place doesn't have any grass area, there are some options around for that though.
Yes but how often to you take a full wedge, I probably only hit my PW or GW the sand and lob wedge are hardly ever full. How they feel off different lies is what is important to me. I like a lot of bounce but someone may prefer less.

On a side note I have recently started using full SW quite a bit, for me it goes ~50-55 yards ish with basically no roll out and seems kinda useful at times... But yeah it's more often bunker/chipping really, the LW is entirely chipping with a side of bunkers.

First round in a few weeks last night. Bloody freezing round here in the evenings atm, had to break out the long sleeve for the firs time this season...

Played well and shot 90 though definitely left a few out there. Left Driver at home to see if my long irons where still behaving and bar one thin that nearly crippled my right hand all went pretty well. Still a little shakey around the greens but that's likely just because all my focus has been on my long game this past few months.

Reading Gallweys 'Inner Game of Golf' and a lot of it has been a huge help recently, particularly with my long game. Feels like it's really helped even out the tempo of my swing and my gapping is so reliable now compared to even a few months ago.

Used my sim to find a ball with more spin last night, as a recent lesson, I discovered I'm not quite hitting down enough and my spin numbers are very low. I know it's mostly down to my irons (TM Sim2), but really enjoy doing the exploratory work myself:

Looked through my set of 'found' balls and did some googling to find some good spinning balls, did some tests on a few mizunos I heard good things about.
Came out thinking I should probably start playing a higher spinning ball, so that my irons have a chance of stopping on greens.

75% swing speed, pretty efficient 7i swing, comparing prov1 to 3 different Mizuno balls:

My progression so far since keeping score.

The blow up holes and small errors that add strokes kill me the most still. I if reduce those breaking 90 should be normal. A miss on a full shot I expect as part of learning but it’s the small mental errors that I’m trying to eliminate.
Where are you based mate? The Hertsmere and Northwood aren't too far from me and @-westy-

Excellent 40 minutes showing off Rome and Marco Simone golf course from the NLU boys.

Rough looks brutal, but the closing holes look like fun!

Well worth a watch to get a feel for the course.

Shot a new PB on Monday at stonebridge (blythe/somers), Finished on 102 previous was 106, the 2nd hole ruined it for me, off the tee 2 topped balls straight into the water (only tops I hit with the driver all day annoyingly) fnished a par 4 hole on 11 (even with officail handicap capping that at a 9 I still didn't break 100 and hit 100 bang on).

I did manage to break 50 on the back 9 and hit a 49 so I couldn't be all that annoyed. Break 100 is getting close I can feel it, it won't be for a while yet though as I'm away until next friday, hopefully if my flight doesn't get cancelled! So I'll get a tee time booked for next weekend hopefully.

Also played cambridgeshire for the first time last week, brand new course and I shot a 110 which is was happy with for a first time round.

Getting my driver working properly has saved me tons of shots per round. I'm actually getting on par 5s and par 4s in regulation. I'm only driving about 250 but it's reliable at least! Both cambridgeshire and my stonebridge on Monday I lipped multiple birdies, something about putting for birdies my balls refuse to drop! But my game in general has come a long way since I started in May which I'm very happy with. Signed up for England Golf now as was to start working on an official handicap as well.

Don't set your expectations of 250 yards to be low, that's incredibly good for us amateurs. That alone could quite easily get you down to low single figures if the rest of your game (approach, short and putting) all come together too.

As a stat, my Arccos data says that my average drives of 220 in my last game was equal to the average 11 handicapper. If you were driving 250 on average, you'd be roughly a 3 handicapper if you only compared driver distance. Hats off and all that :p

Was about to quote similar - My P-average (performance averages) drives are 270 from shotscope.... (fairly solid ground and run when it lands on my course) and I play off 6.5. 250 is very long for amateur's
