Nice sub 90 score..... But as you say.... 9 three putts in a round is killing you.....
Hope this doesn't sound harsh, and it's genuinely not meant to be - but get some putting practice in ASAP!!. 45 putts is more than 50% of your score.....
To hit 10/18 GIR is superb.... But the putting has killed you. That's a 78/79 score all day long with some practice/putting coaching etc. Some of the longer 40/50ft putts are going to be 3's, and they must be massive greens if your having 63ft/71ft/77ft putts.... That's like 25/30 yard long greens....
Get a putting mat or alike for Xmas and practice in the house.
The greens are huge to be fair. Multi tiered, undulating, sloped, huge and no fringe that's going to stop your ball from rolling miles off the back/front, on this links courses at least. There's no flat greens here
My other recent round there from a few weeks ago, I shot 35 putts, with only 2x 3putts. Today though, cold hands in 9deg 'warmth' never helps and I
wouldn't say my putting was terrible either. I putted from off the green several times too, as the lies are so tight and the surrounding grass is like most greens - pretty slippery, but fun. When I shot 35 putts at the same course, my putting total distance was 516 feet and today, it was almost 700 feet! That tells me something, GET THOSE APPROACH SHOTS CLOSER FFS
Yes, I hit a lot of decent putts, I hit a lot of long putts, but I can say that none of the putts from 6-8 feet fell, when they normally would. A gentle tap, they'd go for miles. Difficulty was high, so I'll take it.
One thing I did notice on the greens though, the types of putts where I'd hit pure, it would run towards the hole and would gently veer off left, right at the last foot. This happened several times today, either I didn't see the break, or the holes were doughnutted, where people step and cause a volcano style slope around the hole. Either way, hit the ball great today, so I'll take the positives!
