Went to the range today for my weekly session, went for 100 balls which was/is imo a mistake, too many/I get bored. Think I hit ~85 before giving up and going home :p 60 is the perfect number I reckon.

Some reasonable stuff/work, it's been a while actually since I've been on the range/launch monitor and seems my path is definitely improved again so that's nice to see and generally hit a bunch of decent shots. Went for it a bit with the driver and got several high-90's but still no magical 100mph, work to do :p

Also after watching 'the grid' stuff on YouTube (Is it Golf Digest that do it with pros?) I did my own variant, they do 180-280 in 10 blocks of 10 yards whilst I did 80-180, took me 27 shots to complete all 10 distances, not great but a marker to work on.

Just looking to check dates on OCUK Major 2025 competition??

Whenever basically, name a date and I'll (probably...) be there :D

I would absolutely come too.

Went to a newly opened indoor sim place last night. Full trackman setup, can get loads of data which is really helpful. Not the cheapest (post-introductory discount, a bay for up to 4 players, for 2 hours would be £85 ). Got a good deal on an hour, with a free half hour as there wasn't a booking after us. Some good fun on the "range", then played 18 holes - including 9 holes at +7000ft of elevation, so got some ridiculous numbers (245 yard 4-iron, 365yd drives anyone) :D

Be interesting to see how it does, I don't think there's a massive market for simulator golf in the UK, especially once the weather warms up. I personally think it's too expensive to practice as a solo, but may be worth it for a small group of you.

It also highlighted how **** I am at golf

I don't have Sky Sports so have little/no interest in it really :p

The teams though, like LIV, having a team event where the teams are entirely arbitrary just seems so weird... Especially when they're places, specifically US places with a bunch of non-US golfers who have seemingly zero ties to that location.

The tech does looks absolutely mental/great though :D

Very cold here today but took up the free fitting for Driver at local Affordable Golf place.

After enjoying the GT2 3 wood I got last year, wanted to try driver...

A bit restrictive as it was so cold, they didn't even open the shutters on the fitting bay so just hitting into a net using GC Quad....

Still very very obvious - My existing Srixon / Ventus 6-x combo just doesn't work properly for me. I guess there is a bit of ego in there as well trying to play a 6-x shaft that on the very good days, it's long and straight, but more off days, it's very hard work trying to find the fairway. And lets be honest - way more off days, than on days...

Anyway - GT2 with 55g stiff tensei blue shaft was excellent - spin numbers much better, carry about 10 yards further than existing driver, roll out distance was about the same as I hit the existing driver so low.

Tried GT3 head, same shaft but ball just wanted to go left all the time on me - couldn't keep it straight.

Overall felt way easier to hit - misshits are so much better in terms of still finding fairways etc.

Wanted to try the 65g shaft but he didn't have it to hand.

Went to see my local pro who I have some vouchers with from last years winnings. Going to re-test next week with him and potential order then.

Will just try and sell my existing driver online as the trade in value offered was poor from Affordable but the guy admitted that despite being a premium shaft, it just won't sell to the general punter buying a 2nd hand driver.

Nice, I've got my Titleist fitting in a couple of weeks and looking forward to it. Also spoke to my local shop and gonna book the simulator to try a bunch of the new driver models before doing a proper fitting there.

Been following them quite closely as I'm likely to buy one and has to be said looks wise, from the videos at least, the Qi35 looks pretty good to me :D But we'll see what the performance/feel/looks in person is like...

I was disappointed they moved away from the gloss finish on the Qi10, but then I am biased :p Been eyeing up adding to my collection now they're on sale. Think I'd be pretty safe getting the 5w in the same spec as my 7w, driver I'd really like to get an independent fitting once I've completed my speed training program. Must resist!

Some entertaining golf today given the sub zero temperature at tee time and frozen greens :p Still was nice to be out under clear blue skies given the grey, dank murkiness that had been my last few rounds. Went with my thin thermal leggings and ski socks under my waterproof trousers along with a thick thermal top, sports tee shirt and hoody up top. By the mid point of the round I was getting quite warm and by the end definitely a little toasty. Think I'll dispense with the leggings and switch back to my thin thermal top for tomorrow. The score was nothing to write home about but at least I keep it to double figures. Keep under hitting my putts early in the round thinking the frozen greens would be quicker. 36pts was the winning score which I thought very impressive all things considered.

Back to Friday and my golf assessment. A complete contrast to last weekend. First off this was very much an assessment and not a lesson. We started off chatting for 10-15mins about my game, my goals and where I thought I could improve while Will from the academy filled in a comprehensive questionaire. We then went out on the the range where I hit a few balls, got filmed and reviewed my current setup at address and swing. This was done on a tablet so much easier to see and like my former coach they were using the Coach Now platform so could draw lines on the screen, pull up a video of a pro to provide a side by side comparison etc. He suggested a couple of things I could work on for now, ball position was probably the big one - turns out I didn't have it as far forward as I thought! We then went back in side, looked at some more video and identified a potential pathway to improvement. Overall a very professional and positive engagement :)

The only snag was we couldn't find a date to book in for a lesson until the early part of February. If this goes well, which I'm hopping it will based on my initial contact, I'll definitely be booking in for more. I think this maybe highlights the difference between someone training to be a PGA Pro, which doesn't automatically mean you'll end up being a teacher, and someone who was clearly dedicated to teaching.

Temp greens everywhere here today - supposed to be playing but no interest in temp greens & temp tees...

Frustrated to say the least as it's 8 degrees here today - no frost or anything over night....

Took advantage of the price drops this week and grabbed an ai smoke max driver to have a play around with prior to the season starting. I was fitted for one last year but didn't want to commit to spending £499 on it at the time! We used to have an indoor trackman place nearby but its now gone, nearest one is about 25 mins away so will get a couple of sessions in there to get it dialed in.

If anyone currently has an ai smoke max driver does it sit very slightly open at address for you in the neutral setting? Mine does, I don't recall it sitting like that in the fitting (guess it's something I'll get used to but for the moment it doesn't suit my eye)

Much better play today, 33pts with the highlight being a two at the 15th. The only two on the board on last viewing, there were only two yesterday both from the same player. Sitting 2nd overall on count back of thirty three scores submitted with a few to come in so may pick up some money :)
