RANGE TOMRROW, I dont care if its 3 feet of snow, I haven't had a chance at my club for a bit now!

I agree - 22 to 12 in a year is a massive jump. Not saying it's not achievable but that's a BIG jump. @Robert896r1

On WHS the "average" score for 22 handicap is 98.3 per round.

Average for 12 handicap is 87.8

So you'd need to drop MORE than 11 shots a round from your current scores to get your handicap down to 12 in a year.
Where exactly are these stats. I like them

Out today for the Wed medal, absolutely Baltic but played some good stuff. All 18 winter greens due to the frost and frozen ground.

Started off with 5 straight pars, then a birdie at the 6th followed by double bogey, bogey, double bogey for a +4 front 9. Very steady on the back 9: 8 pars and 1 bogey.

Playing in this frost is quite interesting, on the approach shots you get a crazy first bounce and then it quickly stops due to the frost accumulating on the ball

haha - nice - minus 6 here today most of the day so no chance I'm going out

-6 during the day?! Gotta love the south, toasty 4 degrees or something, that's +4c btw :p

Planning to play tomorrow and Friday, both will be +ve during the day, not by much, but negative overnight... Hoping the ground won't freeze enough for the courses to close.

Then on Monday I fly to Marrakech for 4 rounds of golf, where it looks to be ~20c, that'll be nice :D Although also thinking it might be a bit weird getting used to 'summer' club selection again...

And me :p

Although I think Crail isn't 'that' expensive if we just did it normally for a bunch of us? St Andrews isn't that bad either really I think... Except the Old Course...
Crail is basically £90 a round so double that for both courses. I can get both courses for £45ish each.

A lot of the courses in St Andrews are actually decently priced, I can get a few discounts around there as well.

I would suggest a round at Dumbarnie but it's extortionate if you're not from Fife.

Decided to see how the hype goes..

Got a good condition Scotty Cameron Newport from the bay to try out..

If it is like I expect it to perform I will be putting it in the bag for my 2-ball (which I would be keeping though!)

Well, I’m annoyed, pro not in today so no tokens for the range!

typlical as he is always there! I could go to new machar golf club range..but it’s a bit of a drive and balls ain’t cheap..but I really really wanna try these bad boys out!

Didn't mention it yesterday but had a lesson yesterday and the outcome is that the next thing I need to work on (still got a bit on closing the face but the path/angle of attack are ok) was to keep the hands 'ahead' of the head, e.g. shaft lean/de-lofting/whatever you want to call it, it feels weird as hell tbh :p But I was 'flicking' a bit so my 27 degree 7i was more like 29-32 degrees dynamic loft, with the hands forward bit it varied a bunch but was around 22-26 ish dynamic loft so a massive difference, like 2-3 clubs, but also feels like I've 'lost' the speed a bit in the process of the adjustment.

I also picked up a 3 wood, for the lols, the Cobra King Radspeed 3w.

Anyway, main reason for posting, I took my new swing and new club out on the course today in the frigid wastelands of Bristol... It was cold... I kinda like the cold, but it was really cold :p

I played well though, or at least consistently solid, 9 bogeys and 9 double-bogeys for a +27/98... Actually beat my playing partner gross (he had a bad for him round with 99, so one stroke. At one point I was ~6-7 strokes up gross, went into the last home 1 stroke back he quadrupled it and I 'just' double-bogeyed it. Obviously I thrashed him by miles on the net/stableford :D

Could do better still :p Wedges were a bit 'meh', often short. Irons were actually good with the new swing, not always distance wise but lovely and straight. 3 wood was 'ok', 50/50 for good shots really but 3 from the deck (kinda tee'd up with the preferred lies) and only one off the tee. Putting was 2.2 average, Fairways at 31% and GIR at 6%, really not good numbers but just kept it in play, didn't lose a single ball for only the 2nd time, actually found 3 \o/

HEADS UP:

Just bought these BOA shoes. Just its a cracking deal so I thought I would post, its double on Amazon atm.

Yeah I've got these, they're very comfy. I mainly use them at the range and sometimes in summer.

I've also got the non-boa version which are leather, these are the best pair of golf shoes that I've ever owned and I recently bought a backup pair for when the current ones depart to show heaven :)

great to know, cheers. I must admit, I love the BOA mechanism on golf shoes.

looking forward to trying these on.

I noticed in a promotional email, £500 off, the original SkyTrak launch monitor.

has anyone used one? How are they in comparison to the new plus variant?

If you suffer from terribly cold hands during the winter months, and can't even feel the clubs you're holding, this is for you!

Bought one of these for an early Christmas present for myself:

It's a godsend, I was worried it wouldn't be warm enough, but it's boiling! Keeps my hands toasty and at one point, had to turn it down, my hands felt too hot in there. :p
Playing at 11am today, and with how cold it is, this is a MUST for me.

I'm carrying at the moment, so it's fine.
Don't know what it's going to be like when Im pushing my trolley around, as hands are going to be on that. I'll figure that out, will be carry all winter anyway..

SkyTrak original is OK
Great for irons, shows mainly ball data, but only swing speed for club-data.
You HAVE to line up the logo of the ball to face the camera, or its got a chance of missing the shot.
Misses the occasional shot, maybe 2-3 out of 100, so not the end of the world.

Good quality unit, perfect for home use, as it sits next to you, rather than 6+ feet behind your swing.
I sold mine and bought a 2nd hand Foresight GC3

I have flat feet. Anyone know if these shoes have aggressive arch support or mainly flat when you run your hand through the them? i basically wear sketchers for everything since they tends to be best for flat feet.
