Won our handicap team match at home last night 5-1....So that's us 3 wins and a draw so far this campaign.

Won my match 2 up - played solid enough - was never down all night.

My mate won 5&4 including holing his second shot at the par 4 6th from 150 yards out for a 2...... then proceeds to knock in a 15ft putt on the 7th for another 2.... The guy he was playing was extremely gracious about it and said it was just lovely to see some great golf.... Certainly tough to play against back to back 2's

Well, back from my club championship a bit earlier than I expected/hoped to be :p

Shot 96 gross, 82 net (par 70), never gonna make the cut with that. Feel somewhat aggrieved with how the game played out, I felt on the front 9 especially I was generally striking the ball really well, like really well, but 1 bad bounce put me in a bunker with a crappy stance (had to stand outside the bunker) and ended up with a triple then 2 poor swings (at least these ones weren't luck :p) also ended in triples. 9 over in 3 holes is just yeah, add in the rest was a case of 'almost pars' for 14 over on the front 9 and that was basically it. Ah well. Played enough golf over the past week anyway :p

Gross 79 for 72 today

Solid golf but lost a ball off the 1st (double), poor tee shot on 6th (double), poor tee shot on 10th (double)..... So 6 shots gone there.

Nice birdie on 7th (tramline a 40/45ft putt). Solid golf, better than last few weeks. Just a couple of stray ones cost me badly today.

Was dreading this morning's medal and set of hitting my drive into the bit of a ditch in front of the t box..Great start got a double bogey which I was ok with considering the start.
We have a t shirt from the top of the rock and it's got quite tight out of bounds on the right. I always end up there so God knows why I didn't just use an iron because I obviously hit the first out of bounds... Managed to finish the hole with a double bogey.
Then the round was ok until a par 5 where my t shot went into the light rough but we couldn't find it, walk back to the t and hit one just in front again... Scramble away for a 9.
Back to normal after that and on the last I 3 putt with 2 of them lipping out.
Overall happy with my round as I was 43 out and aside the 9 wasn't to bad back with 51. Puts me one under net par with handicap and joint 2nd (with 4 others)
Lessons learnt - if in doubt just hit a 7iron of the t and keep it in play

Shot a 79 (nett 74 - par 72) today, but could easily have been a 73 at worst with the shots I left out there

Had a couple doubles on the front that at worst should have been bogeys, and a couple 3 putt bogeys that between them all cosy me a good 4 shots overall

Pulled it together on the back, but a lost ball OB off the tee on the par 5 14th saw me finish with a double bogey (made a par with the second ball) which was the only hole where I didn't make a par

+5 front
+2 back
2 birdies

I did finish 4th out of the 21 who played from the group today, so got my money back and more, so not a bad day overall

played a really solid 17 holes on Saturday, unfortunately I took a 10 (ten) on the 12th due to 5 off the tee. Had I scored a 6 I would have won - annoying.

This hole is the only hole I seem to slice off the tee. I think it must be because I'm aiming out right to draw it back and my feet aren't pointing in the right direction due to the layout of the hole/tee box. Will have to put some practice in on this hole and convince myself I'm not going to snap hook it OB if I line up more to the middle.

Got very lucky with the weather today - plan was for a friend to be playing with myself and Jen, but they weren't able to make it up north due to family issues

As I had the day off anyway, we still went out and we both finished with 35 points with a couple no scores for each of us - mine were due to penalties (3 lost balls)

Score - 78 (+6)
1 birdie
3 bogeys
2 doubles

Next up is a weekend away with friends for 3 days of golf

Somehow sneaked in as 16th qualifier of 16 for handicap club championships...

Knockouts start in a couple of weeks for it.

Slayley hall in 10 days time - would be nice to see some nice weather again......

For I think the second time ever I walked off a golf course before finishing the round today...

Isle of Purbeck for the NCG events and the weather was miserable. Both rain which was bad enough but also ridiculous winds, dunno what they got up to but it was just brutal. The other three people had electric trolleys and there were multiple incidents of the wind getting them and starting them rolling off before falling over. Got to the 8th which is not far from the club house and I was drenched, miserable, scoring terribly and just generally not having fun. Tried to push through, hit an ok tee shot, then it went wrong from there and put two in the gorse and that was it, looked like there was another band of rain coming in too, sod that, get me the hell out of there :p

Been a while since I played at Slaley, it is not that far from me - which course are you playing? Or are you staying and playing both?

Staying and playing both.

Should be in absolutely peak condition as Tuesday - Friday is PGA Professional Championships at Slayley. They are playing the Hunting course for 4 days. https://pgagbi.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/pgagbi26/event/pgagbi26140/index.htm (Peter Finch is there)

We arrive on the Friday and play the Priestman course, then Hunting Saturday. 12 of us. Third year going. Down on Friday back on Saturday. Keeps the wives' happy.

Dinner bed breakfast plus buggies both days.... £245 all in which is great value. You can walk but they are LONG walks and courses - we did it once and was over 5 hours.... Since then £25 per person for a buggies is a bargain.

Enjoy and play well

I will be playing Bridlington, Driffield and Filey this weekend - the deal we got for that was 2 nights B&B, 3 rounds for £245 as well

Myself, Jen and then our friends who we played the recent open at Romanby with - makes life easier when the wife plays to get golf breaks away lol

Saturday at Darley in Troon, Sunday team match at St Nicholas Golf Club, recently used as pre qualifying venue for the Open qualifying.

Weather looks horrendous on Sunday mind you....

Nice, that's right round the corner from me, played the Hunting this morning(77) and it's in incredible condition! It's a decent stay and play.

Off to Birkdale next month, cannot wait!

Got through to buy Ryder cup tickets as well, however had to grit my teeth and say now for nearly £500 a day on just tickets it's ridiculous!

Tough conditions this morning for the monthly medal, wet and windy for a large part of the round. Thankfully the rain was never too heavy and the sun broke out around the turn before the rain returned later in the round. The really strong winds came on for the last few holes where at one point my ball on the 16th green got blown off its mark! Nett 78 playing off 14 which was ok and by some miracle I kept the same ball in play all round. Would have been four shots better but for a couple of poor holes. Tee shot on fourteen and then a leave of my senses when putting from just off the back of the green lead to an eight and then managed to make a seven from the middle of the fairway on sixteen, both trebles.

Forecast looks much more sensible for tomorrow, it's still blowing really strong out there now, so hopefully good things to come :)

Looking to get into golf. What’s a good starter club set? Notice Costco do a full set? Worth it or maybe goto the shop at the course?

Thanks

Best bet is to pick some up second hand to get you going. How tall are you? Most men can pick up standard length clubs and play fine with them, but if you're very tall or short, you might need to get something more to suit. The Costco ones off the shelf will be standard length and aren't able to be selected in different lengths. I have the Costco Kirkland wedges. They seem fine to me for now and I'm also newer to golf.
