Golf Thread

Hi troops!

Managed to get some of the afternoon off so went down and just did the first 9 holes of a local course.

I managed 49 shots. TBH I'm actually quite happy with this as I did the full 18 a week or so ago and managed 106.

Yes i'm still a newb (even though I started this thread years ago :P.....not played for a while)

I got a friend to film my swing - ITS HORRIBLE. I seem all 'bunched up as if my shoulders just don't turn :(

I'm thinking of having a few more lessons. The last time I had lessons all it did was completely mess me up and made me stop enjoying golf. I've now moved so it would be at a different course and different pro. Do you think it's worth it?

It's got to the stage where I don't use a driver - AT ALL. I tee off with a 5 hybrid, it used to at least go straightish about 180yds but now it can go anywhere.

Try this guy, http://www.free-online-golf-tips.com/ he helped me with the shanking, it's not gonna be a magical fix but at least you will know the cause and effect.

I've learnt more over the past few days from that website and a few YouTube videos than i ever did having lessons from a bad instructor. My swing has completely changed. I now do a 'golf swing' instead of a 'golf hit'

Starting to improve my confidence massively on the range. Hit 40 balls today and I was happy with 30 of them. The other 10 I fluffed in true style, either hitting the bah wall or smashing it.....4yds infront of me :p

Playing a game tomorrow so hopefully I do better.

I can hit my SW-7 iron pretty well each shot.

I can hit my 6-4 iron straight about 50% of the time with the other 50% having a really annoying left to right.....it goes straight and then curves off right at the last minute.

I cannot hit my wood/driver straight at all. They always go perfectly straight then curve off right/slice at the last minute.

Help!? It's so annoying that I can hit my short irons so well but my longer irons start to curve off.

Something I do at the range is actually pretend i'm playing a round.

After I've warmed up I'll tee off with my driver, then say....drop to a 5iron....then pitch with my PW/SW.

Sometimes I pretend I'm playing a short par 4 or a long par 5 and throw my 5Wood in as well.

Got my first ever lesson booked for Thursday after starting to get into Golf earlier in the year.

...I assume the teaching pros are used to people who can't control a club to save their life? Don't particularly want to embarrass myself too much (bad enough at the range when people are watching).

Don't worry at all. They teach people that have never even held a club before.

I nipped to the range today and had one of those 'I have no idea what i'm doing' moments when standing over the ball.

I'd even forgotten how to grip the club properly.....it's such a stupid game :p

Going to hit the driving range tomorrow, get 200 balls and just smash the hell out of the driver to try and find some consistency hitting it straight as an extra 70+ yards off the tee box would be a massive help.

That can be detrimental, hitting so many balls means you’re hitting them to just get rid rather than actually practising! Better to hit 60balls slow and controlled with practise swings.

Also, I’ve been playing on and off for years now and I still don’t use my Driver. I can hit a 5iron 200yds onto a fairway, or hit a driver 240yds into the rough! Don’t worry about using the big boom stick leave it at home and just practice with it at the range until you’re comfortable.

What website do you guys use for buying stuff? I need a new trolly, some accessories and I want to have a look around at a new gap wedge - American Golf seems a bit crap, what else is their?
