Golf Thread

100% I love practicing and do plan to attempt single figures this year but the other 50% is the fun of playing, competing, losing or beating your friends. It's just fun, for me anyway..

It felt a bit robotic playing alone with randoms. Always a little worried I'd offend them by not taking the flag out, walking in front of them, mildly talking when you don't notice they're taking their shot..

All for golf etiquette but not every single waking moment. I wouldn't discourage anyone looking to join on their own, I only know having a solid 4 ball is much better.

According to Flushing It - they are reporting Rick's "hype" videos are

Rick Shiels has signed an influencer deal with the LIV Golf League to create content from this season. Rick has the most popular golf YouTube channel with nearly 3 million subscribers, and with Bryson DeChambeau quickly rising the ranks too, LIV is making a big move in this space.

Selling his soul to the devil.... If he's playing with the pro's etc over there - I don't mind.

If he's wandering around in a LIV bomber jacket, sporting Fireballs hats etc - that's pathetic stuff.

Well my irons arrived today and I picked them up this afternoon, man do they look good with the red grips! I have tomorrow off and was looking forward to hitting some balls, then I looked at the weather

So the scheduled game was cancelled for today cause of Eowyn, several places still open so could've played but decided instead to do another sim session practicing and trying new drivers cause why not :p

Today I tried the TM Qi35 and the Ping G440, in the pictures/videos of the new releases I really liked the grey of the Qi35 but it seemed darker/closer to the others in the flesh, still really nice looking but not quite as much as I'd thought. Performance is the important bit though :p

I actually hit my own driver really nicely and consistently today, way better than Monday which was nice but kinda made it harder for the new ones.

I struggled with the G440 initially but then started putting some good numbers together, overall the 10 'good shots' from the main comparison it was a bit better than my existing one, felt good though.

The Qi35 I just never got comfortable with, everything just went right, which isn't overly surprising with my swing (out-to-in path etc) but just felt like it was impossible to straighten it up at all/make it go left.

So ruled that out and went back to the G440 and it really started clicking better and put up some more good numbers if a few too low launching but that's what the fitting process is for as/when I go for that. What felt really nice though was it felt more 'controllable', e.g. if I got that face closed it would go left and I could leave it open to go right, and when I did hit bad ones they turned out way better than I have any right to expect :p

So now we're down to Elyte or G440 of the ones I've tested, Titlelist fitting on Tuesday so deliberately not tried that, gonna also consider things like Srixon/Mizuno/Wilson etc too.

We can book and add you as a guest so you’d get a better rate ;)

Weather looks probably ok, rainy Monday and overnight but dry for the day, if either you or @-westy- are up for it feel free to book a time I guess, anytime after 12 should work I think, otherwise I'll probably book sometime over the weekend.

E: I should add if either of you do book and need to pay upfront for me ping me a DM and I'll get payment sorted :)

Do you think the same of all those influences who have club deals? Can't see the issue myself, he's probably just looking to maximise his income streams. It's not as if I'm forced to watch his content (I watch a lot of Youtube golf BTW).

Guests can pay at the shop on arrival so don't worry about that, I'll chat with @-westy- and see about a tee time.

Totally get it - money is money after all...

Club deals, zero issues with - good luck and make your money that way. Free clubs / balls etc

Signing with LIV to be some kind of "inside the ropes" content producer just seems very much miles away from his youtube to date.... If he's wandering around in LIV gear, saying how amazing it is.... that's just not for me at all. Just a personal thing but can't stand LIV....

Just seems a bit "sad" if that makes sense... He's done loads of good stuff with The Open inside the ropes etc - loved all that stuff.... but just feels like selling his soul to the devil if it is some kind of LIV endorsement deal

EDIT - right on cue....

Break 75 at the LIV venues.... ZERO chance he does that in any video:cry:

I kinda hoped it was something else, even though I've been less interested in his content for a while now preferring the likes of Peter Finch, Bryan Bros and of course Luke Kwon/Taco/Sam/Tooms/Dimchae.

What LIV stands for, and I know that PIF investment is everywhere these days, is kinda disgusting. No interest in LIV, no interest in watching anymore Rick Shiels stuff, but hey, nobody will care :p

Even the whole PIF thing aside - There is zero competition... People just get signed for money, they get "relegated" - then just resigned again. Makes a total mockery of sport/competition etc. It' just exhibition golf... If you like that - great... Just not for me... There's no cut / risk / reward for good golf or bad golf.

When people like Deam Burmester is earning $17 million / Charles Howell III $19.5 million lifetime on LIV.... Just throwing money at anyone and feels the same with Rick....

I wish some of the guys were back on PGA tour - however a lot of them I really don't care about anymore.... Just a nice little retirement fund for them (casey / poulter / westwood / Kaymer)

Sun out and basically no wind down this way today! Will be getting out for 9 holes this afternoon I think :p

e: On Rick Sheils: I think it's become a bit of a fashion/thing to hate him over the years, and it certainly is easy to do so  In reality though he seems like a pretty nice and normal bloke who loves his golf and no one can question the fact that he is the biggest golf youtube in the world, maybe that's why he gets the hate?

Saying all of this, I do enjoy hating him as well, as a southerner, I think his thick Manc accent just gets to me :p

Listen - good for him.... but my dislike comes more from the dislike everything about LIV, rather than anything personal at Rick.... Just no interest in watching him fawn it up with LIV golfers still trying to say/make it a proper competitive sport.....

Yeah I understand your point completely.

Like you've said, LIV is boring as there isn't any competition!
