Does anyone have a Golf GPS watch recommendations? I have a rangefinder but sometimes struggle to pick out the flag especially with trees behind the green.

I had exactly the same problem as you, especially as been carrying all winter and my course is really hard on you so I sometimes struggle to keep the rangefinder on the pin

Had about enough, so bought a Garmin S12 approach from the rainforest as they had them reduced to £118 and had a £20 voucher to use. Trying it for the first time this afternoon, so will let you know how that goes!

Blowing a gale this morning at 8am...

Played but wasn't really at the races from the start.

Wind was so strong - I hit 3w 298 yards on the 4th.... Then had to hit 6 iron on 135 yard par 3 8th!! :D

Short game is poor - needs serious work but course is very wet still at the moment. Lost a ball on 16th so that was the end of the scoring there (think I was already +9 or something) - NR for me today.

I have a shotscope X5, it also comes with little sensors you screw into the top of the grips and it tracks your shots and distance as well. I bought it for the distance tracking more than the GPS but the GPS is decent, only thing it misses IMO is telling you what club you should consider for you next shot.

Thanks, that does sound ideal especially with the shot tracking included, my Ping Irons came with a free trial of Arccos whihc was great but I couldn't justify the annual subscription cost for the amount I play.

Look forward to your impressions and what you think of it, still open to all options

Got home about an hour ago, honestly it was amazing using the S12. Garmin app gives you a map of the holes too. Moveable pins on the watch, tracks score, tracked my shot yardage loads of other functions, but it was amazing to not have to pull the RF out of the bag, and just reference the yardage quickly on my wrist.

Yeah, I had a trial of the Arccos stuff as well but like yourself, the ongoing fees didn't really add up.

If you got for a shotscope make sure you find a discount code, there's usually some money off to be found, they also do ex-display ones at a hefty discount as well.

Was pretty gusty at times down here this morning. Hit a 6i around 190y on the 17th (would normally expect 155-160)!

I also played Saturday, first round of the year so we decided to play a 2 man scramble to ease ourselves back in gently. Was a lot windier than I expected and I struggled to keep the ball down into the head winds. We only managed one birdie and finished on +7.

I have developed some ****ing horrible shanks - started a few rounds ago, got worse and worse! Went for a lunchtime range session - hit maybe 50 balls very well, thought "oh great, sorted, must've just been tired".

Then shank after shank happened - even on 15% swings, still pinging it hard right .

Lesson booked for tomorrow evening, sods law I'll be hitting it well by then...

hour lesson booked in for 7.30pm next Tuesday. cant wait. will try and get to the golf course tomorrow / weekend if I can, if not the et is more than suitable weather dependant of course.

really trying to stop a hooky pull, need to lean the shaft forward more and open the face, (well what feels like open) to get the contact and compression on the ball, but as you guys know, muscle memory and all that..

been gorgeous today here in Aberdeen, so thankful for that, long may it continue..

Weather does look good for the next couple of weeks, got some annual leave coming up so hope it holds.

Competition 2 tomorrow - stableford
The captain vs vice captain, we lost 3&2, didn't play particularly well but did hold my own on a few holes, was a bit nervous on the first tee (shotgun so we started on the 3rd) and proceeded to pull my tee shot into the gorse 20 yards in front of me, felt a bit better when my playing partner did exactly the same on the same hole 2nd time around (9 hole course). Rushed a few swings and think the adrenalin led me to overhit a few shots as well. Still, onwards and upwards.

Been a while since I did a stableford but at least it means taking a 9 won't ruin the card. Hopefully I'll be able to perform decent tomorrow, course is just so tight so whereas at my local course you have wide fairways, here you have trees and gorse if you go off line.

Been working on my putting stroke at home the last couple of days, took advantage of a big discount on a blast golf sensor on Amazon recently. my putting is terrible at the moment so this thing analyzes the club face at impact so hit about 50 shots last night and at the start my face angle was all over the place but towards the end it was much tighter so that's looking good. Will do another few drills with it tonight as my wedge games has been good the last couple of rounds so if I can keep it on the fairway and play sensible golf then if my chipping and putting works out then a decent score should be in order.

Regardless, the members were a really friendly bunch and kept me right so enjoying meeting new people and having some fun.

First proper round of golf booked tomorrow, I played a scramble with my friend last week as a warm up and we shot +7 between us, just the one bird. The greens had been punched so were a bit bumpy so hoping for better tomorrow.

Well I had an absolute atrocious start to the round with Quad, Triple, Par, Triple to be +10 after four holes! Managed to salvage the round from there on with 2 birdies and finished with an 85. The driver was going great, however the greens had been punched and the ball was bobbling all over the place, still nice to be out in the sun though and looking forward to more regular play.

Loving this weather currently. Nice to go out and play knowing you aren't coming back caked in mud

Steady golf currently this year. Handicap stayed at 11.0 all through winter and now down to 10.4
Got a few demons in the mind with regard to my swing and turf interaction carried over from winter golf so hopefully practising will get rid of these.
But I'm conscious of fatting a ball (not that it's what I normally do) but for some reason those thoughts are there so I have found myself thinning my shots at times.

Things to work on but the start to this season is going well

Solid if unspectacular golf yesterday....

39/39 for 78 gross, net 72- Birdie Number 20 on the year at the par 5 2nd hole (target 50).

Also second round this year with no doubles.... (target is 5) - That was very satisfying. Cut 0.3 to 6.0 now.

Otherwise, conditions were tough... Dry and sunshine, but very breezy.... 2 club wind at times...

Hit 8 iron 180 downwind on 16th, then hit 7 iron 150 on next par 3.

Worryingly the greens at our place have been cut very short for this time of year, and with little or no rain due in the next 7-10 days, and no watering system (been broken for 20 years now!! Typical council) - I have deep concerns about how rock hard the greens are already.

They were like concrete yesterday already.

Recently been playing a bit meh, getting somewhat frustrated that I felt I was striking it ok but just not scoring at all and with too many errors, mostly directional, in that striking. I know I can do it which I guess makes it worse and my handicap has steadily been rising up to 20.8 now which is meh.

Then today I had my first Summer Knockout match so feeling a bit meh I went to the range yesterday and focussed on a few things and it generally went pretty well, probably the biggest thing which I 're-learnt' was the whole 'half' backswing (it's actually full, ish, just a feel of half a backswing to stop collapsing) which is annoying as I was working on that and playing better than I have been a month or 2 back and seemingly lack of practice let that fall away to a full/collapsing swing...

So yeah, the match! Turned up early and hit 20 balls, did a bunch of chips and putting, made sure I was 'ready' which I often don't bother with. The guy I was playing I have played with before and he's a really good golfer very solid and competes enough that I knew he wouldn't be fazed at all, on the other hand he had to give me 9 shots :p

Won the first 2 holes (with shots), halved the third, won the fourth surprisingly to get to 3 up and then from there it was kind of a case of maintaining it, it was a bit up and down and he actually won the 9th where I had a shot (I bogied, he birdied) so I was 1 up at the turn but gotta love getting shots got that back to 3 up, lost the 13th even though I had a shot with my first really bad strike/result going OB with my 2nd but then held on to win 3&2 as we halved the 16th.

I shot an 83, he shot 77, and I think we were both pretty happy with that really, I certainly was :)

Matchplay is a different level of competition though, not done that much of it but feel a fair bit of pressure, not enough to be a problem today at least but it's there and it makes me focus way more than a normal comp :p

Had a great round this evening, shot a 78(+6), 8 under my handicap, recently had a lesson with my driver and been practicing with the claw putter grip, it's paying dividends.

Also had a crazy stroke of luck in whitby, a charity shop had a storage box of Titleist golf balls, 5 for £1. Only realised when I got inside they were all pro v1's. That's probably my luck done for the year
