Had a swing with some new P790s last night. Christ they're lofted strong  7 iron is 30 degrees, I was getting ~185 yards of carry with it - ridiculous. Obviously adjust for range mats, so perfect lie etc, but even so. I'll stick with my P770s!

Yeah - getting crazy....

My mate who has a set of Cobra irons and plays off 28 regularly goes on about "out hitting" me with irons... His 7 iron is like 4 degrees stronger than mine! Plays like a full club more

He probably only hits 1 or 2 greens a round in regulation but doesn't see that as a strength!!

Does anyone here have a Stewart Golf trolley?

I've already decided against the Q Follow as I can't see the point of spending so much more money for it - but looking at the VERTX Remote - refurbished. My MotoCaddy S7 Remote is slowly dying (picked it up cheap last year..), so planning a replacement. Plus it's my 40th soon, so might treat myself. Any thoughts from anyone?

Not me but a mate has one, not sure of the model, he seems happy enough. He did have one problem I know of where something got into the wheel mechanism but apparently the support was really good/helpful and got it sorted quickly.

I think he rarely uses the follow mode of his but just the remote side makes me a bit envious at times :p

I watched a review of the Q Follow, the summary was that the follow mode was only useful about 25% of the time - as soon as you get near any hazards etc then you'll end up using the remote anyway. My current trolley is a remote one, I think I'd find it hard to go back!

Yeah, it kinda feels like one of those things that's a neat trick to try when you first get it and then never to bother using again :p Maybe walking down the middle of the fairway I guess...

I've just got a basic push trolley, actually bought it off the guy that got the Stewart one for a whopping £30... Kinda tempted by a remote one but even refurbished the cost is a lot! I did try a non-remote but electric one last year, think I mentioned it, but that although much cheaper just seemed a bit meh. Then over winter two of the courses I play regularly go carry only, and I actually enjoy carrying, so I get to this point of the year and don't see the point at all. Of course in Summer when I'm carrying 120 litres of water I definitely want a trolley

Yeah unfortunately I've done it to myself, I've been spoiled!

If you dabble in a pair of these, I would appreciate if you let us know what they like! I'm after a new pair for the new season and these has caught my eye. Just got myself a new pair of Nike Free Golf Royal blue/white too!

I "absolutely" do NOT need another pair of shoes....:p:p

I'll let you know if I do purchase- will probably be spikeless ones - waiting to see the various colours

Out for quick 18 this morning - cold but not to bad. Couple of birdies, couple of bogies for 72 gross. Still feeling very "off" with swing at the moment.

Feels off but shoots level par. What the hell is a good day for you?

haha - nah it's a very shortened course at the moment... Like par 67 maybe..... Tee's way up. Longest hole is like 420... most play around 300/320 under winter tees/conditions

Driver/7 iron to longest hole today so course even in winter is short.

Been thinking about getting a driving iron for a while, probably a 2 iron. I have decent length but struggle with driving accuracy and really don’t get on with hybrids - I quite often hit 4 iron off tees currently. Think I better get down to American Golf to try one out.

I have a Srixon ZU85 2i (18°) and it is one of my favourite clubs in the bag for short par 4's off the tee, but if you get a good lie in rough where it sits up, it is a bomber

I have taken it out of the bag for the winter as the thick wet rough isn't a good place to use it, so I currently have a very old RBZ 5w as an alternative - very different flight but works better in these conditions

Heading out for 9 holes shortly as my wife has her monthly 9&wine for the newcomers and beginners, so I am going to see how my back holds up and tee off just before them

Thanks. Sounds like I’ll definitely have to give some a hit.

Ended up playing 12 holes in the end

Didn't keep score as greens aren't great at the moment, there were some good shots and some bad shots but it was nice to just be out playing for a couple hours

I did try hitting the 2024 Chrome Tour X and it is a ball with plenty of speed. Considering the conditions I flew a green from 190yds with a 6i, had a 260yd carry with driver that was sat next to its mark where it landed and had a few other shots that went longer than expected

Supposedly the new 2026 ball is even faster, so I will be looking to pick some up to compare

Listen I love a driving iron but it's spareingly used in my bag to be honest.

Unless I'm playing somewhere links like or super dry/fast fairways - My 4 iron is just as good as driving iron.... New T250 4 iron goes about 205 in the air... so maybe around 220/225 total in the summer. Got a 2 iron that I sometimes use but maybe only get another 10-12 yards out of it and it's certainly harder to hit than 4 iron....

I'd normally keep 7w in the bag instead.

I'm not saying don't try one but you need to be a "good" solid ball striker to get the most out of a driving/2 iron etc.

Think about the overall gapping in your bag and go from there. My 7w has got me out of so many tough spots after bad tee shots etc. Much more useful than driving iron for me.

@SaBBz I've got the same Srixon ZU85 2i as @TheCSSDoctor , I do like it and actually recently put it back in the bag, admittedly before it got quite so wet but it was windy for a bit and it helps out there. Used it a couple of times today and generally it goes ok.

But, @booyaka has a point about long iron vs 7w, I love my 7 wood (Paradym) and is a far easier club to hit, kinda useless into wind though.

Played in Bristol today and had my best round of the year, and best round in a while really :D

84 (17.1 differential) on the harder course there, not played it in a while because it gets wetter in summer but it was booked by accident so oh well, it was very boggy though! Was hitting it pretty well in general, did skull a few chips but also got away with some of them far better than I should've so got some luck today, putting was consistant if not impressive, first 11 holes were 2-putts, ended with 35 total. Overall just a nice relaxed round ending in a better score than I've managed in a bit.
