I was out today too, playing at Slaley Hall, Florida scramble. It was so wet everywhere. Fun day, we came in with a 63.

Didn't win but doesn't anyone else really struggle with compression of their irons when it's so wet?

Trying to pick the ball is so hard for me.

I struggle with compression when it's dry, I struggle with everything when it's wet

I would be happy to just be able to get out and play golf at the moment. My home course has been closed all weekend due to the amount of rain we have had

Just had to make do with a range session yesterday morning

Yeah, our course Is open today, 1-7 and 16-18.

Looking at the weather I expect it to be closed off the rest of the week.

On a side note has anybody seen reviews on the new irons released by Wilson? They look unbelievable, I know they are under rated but there's quite a few people really bigging them up who are usually Titleist purists.

Yeah, it's pretty bad around here too, my local has been closed every day since Friday, Cumberwell Park near me has been closed since 24th January it seems

But there's also some courses around which are just open whatever, the one I played yesterday were even still letting buggies out (without path only rule) and it's crazy some of the damage done to the fairways tbh.

Only skimmed a few headlines, the last gen of irons were really nice looking too and also got good reviews... Obviously other end of the spectrum but I was happy enough with my Dynapower (non-forged/OG), they did what they were meant to do as full on Game Improvement irons and were cheaper than the alternatives.

I'd definitely consider them again, but considering I'm stupid enough to play blades (well, blade/'players cavity' combo set) where tbh there's not enough tech to warrant spending most (imo) even the Wilsons are £1100 it seems, for £609 the Takomo 301's seems like a no-brainer. I do like mine and not sure a set of Wilson/Titleist/Mizuno/whatever in the same range (e.g. not hollow-body basically) is ever gonna be worth almost double the money.

I do try not to shill for Takomo, I really do :p

Two weeks and counting for me and with no change in sight for the weather I'm not expecting it to change any time soon. Ironically one of the sister courses to my club which I was due to play Wednesday was back open on Sunday and one of the fellow members I had been due to play with posted Sunday morning to our Facebook group saying he had a tee time and a couple of spare slots. Of course Facebook chose to send me a notification of their post around an hour prior to the tee time while I was on the range at my home club :p

At least I had a good range session, lovely and warm and without rain so booked one of the two outside/uncovered bays. Much quieter than the other bays, often full of screaming kids on a weekend morning, and I was flushing everything with my irons. Felt like I was really swinging quick with the speed sticks too after seeing a drill recommended by Padraig Harrington around tempo :)

@SKILL Played well again too, playing off 18 with the society handicap and managed 42 points! 1 shot off my best ever around there and picked up nearest to the pin on 18 as well, good times :D That's two wins out of two this year as well, like all my golf last year I was mediocre as hell for the society (won it in '24) so good start a least...
Those new clubs must be agreeing with you!

I hit my friends new Caley 01s the other day and they felt so soft and forgiving. Stiffed it 4 foot from the pin. In comparison my AP2s felt like rocks on sticks.

He only paid about £399 I think.

So I have done a bit of research into the Caley irons and it seems to be that they are identical to the Takomo irons, which appear also to be identical to Ram Fx77s...

All these irons seem to be from some Asian manufacturers and stamped with different logos.

The caleys and takomo are at the 499 price point but crazily the Rams are 349..

Could you bring yourself to game Ram irons if the performance was as good as a £1k set of clubs.

But how long will the performance be good? Surely for irons that cheap they wouldn't last too long?

What kind of wear do you expect that you wouldn't get on more expensive ones?

Although I guess those ones are hollow bodied I believe so maybe some build quality/manufacturing stuff could go wrong...

E: Thought I'd check warranty lengths for the lols... Takomo, Ram and Caley are all 1 year warranties. Callaway, TaylorMade and Mizuno are all 2 year. Interesting Titleist are only 1 year!

Depends on the quality of the materials used, manufacturing processes, finish etc - there are quite a few variables/inconsistencies that could be introduced due to corner cutting during manufacturing.

Yeah, true, dunno if my post came across as a bit harsh but if so sorry...

I think I also initially thought just about the non-hollow bodied irons which are basically just a hunk of steel, obviously still the actual alloy picked and forging/machining process could make a difference but a lot easier of a process than when you start welding stuff together etc.

Still not sure I'd expect huge differences tbh. Actually skimming through Reddit this morning and saw someone posting about the face popping off their Callaway iron, which I'm sure happens to all manufacturers but feels like more of a odd case than a regular thing but who knows.

Had a lesson this morning to see where things are at and it is looking promising

Subtle tweak to my release to try and tighten up the dispersion even more and I had a run of 3 in a row with a club path of 0.0° with a club face to path of less than 0.3° difference

Just need the weather to sort itself out so that I can try to put it in place on the course

Having a couple days away in Edinburgh so won't be hitting balls again before the weekend, but I am looking forward to the season based on how the practice is going
