A weekend of two rounds - played very well on Friday - was 1 over through 9, then some bad shot selection left me with an 81 in the end - not unhappy with that, but what could have been!

Some poor play on Saturday gave me a 90 - putting and chipping was spot on, sometimes a little too aggressive with my chipping but overall not bad - just my approach play left something to be desired. Silly old game

What are you playing off mate? 81 is still a respectable score.

No refund as subs are April to March

No idea, but the little info we have had up to now suggests it is no longer financially viable. It also looks like no new owner is taking over, which is why my previous post is about finding somewhere new to join
Aww man that sucks! You'll have the great memory of tanning our backsides around there haha.

Had a gapping session last week with my pro. Happy with everything bar the top end of my bag. He's put my 5 wood up 1.5 degrees and my 3 wood up 1.5 as well. So essentially a 4 and 6 wood. He also disliked my driver for me, he wasn't happy that it looked like I had to fight it. He had me trying a Ping 440 Max 10.5 with a Denali Red 60S in it. Went well quite liked it. Went to my course and borrowed the same setup from there and a Callaway Quantum Max 10.5 with the Denali Frost 60S in it. All in all quite liked them but couldn't make my mind up. Saw a shaft I'd used in the past on eBay so pulled the trigger on it. Fujikura Pro 2.0 Tour Spec 70S, night and day difference, keeping the GT3 head at 10 (stock). Just need to get it regripped with a midsize of my choosing. Far easier to time and swing, gained more peak height and tighter dispersion. £75 is far cheaper than a new club!

Two weeks and counting for me and with no change in sight for the weather I'm not expecting it to change any time soon. ...
Now three and a half weeks and after 30mm of rain yesterday/overnight I'm not overly hopeful for this weekend. Saying that I ran into the general manager at the gym last night and he though if they had 48 hours of dry weather they might be able to get some holes open, maybe carry only. Said they'd been busy rodding all the drains over the past few weeks. Due to be the Captains farewell event this Sunday followed by AGM for the men's section so would be good to get out but forecast at the moment doesn't look to promising (surprise!).

Yeah, it is a shame but there is nothing we can do about it

On a positive note, we had an email from the Director of Golf at Wynyard to say we have been accepted, so we have a new home to play at as from the 1st March

Wynyard Golf

Looking forward to getting out there, although not sure I will make the first team as they have about a dozen players with plus handicaps and then about 25 or so with a handicap below 1

There are a couple of us who have gone there, but I don't think we will have any issues integrating into the club

Looks like a decent track that! Too many bunkers for my liking though haha!

Good news mate. All the best at Wynyard. I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
Cheers, if you want to come down for a round sometime, let me know

Haha, it is nice - we have played a few times in charity days and I have played matches there as well which was a big part of why we decided to join

Weather is still too wet around here to enjoy playing a round of golf. Arranged to go and have a session on a sim for a bit of fun and see how rusty I have become.

We've just had an email to say our course is finally fully open after having to play a shortened course for 6 weeks. Next week the weather looks a lot better lads, hope is not lost!

Finally got a round in today, only 5 temps. But very wet underfoot. Biggest increase in performance was the driver. Had 2 rogue shots which were 100% me trying to go for it. But out of the 10 holes I hit driver 8 found fairway, significant improvement. Got my 2nd birdie of the year as well. Par 4 stuck the 90 yard wedge shot to 3 feet. Still a knee knocker for a birdie though.

I'm trying to convince myself that a driver fitting is going to be worth the money.. We are talking a minimum of £475 nowadays.
I broke my driver so it's not a case of I have a nice one and I think and upgrade is gona help.

Basically I play off 12 and I'm wondering if it's time to embrace that a fitting will give me a perfect product, at the same time I'm also completely not happy about paying that sort of money when I can buy a decent head of ebay for about £250 but will never know if the extra £300 will make me a much better player..

Can anyone convince me either way that it is or isn't worth it..

Not posted for a bit now but still been plodding along :)
So not sure if I put it in here at the time but I broke my Callaway elyte X driver on the driving range bay a while back and picked up a qi35 max lite with the insurance.
Found I've struggled with my driver since until I stopped going to the range as I seemed to not really be swinging fully, think it's like PTSD! Since I've stopped using the driver at the range and just going for it my distance and accuracy have really shot up. Found I generated a slice when I stopped going for it which I think is the **** poor rotation and is all fixed. I don't really like the driver as it feels a bit 'wippy' I hit the Nike covert vrs driver similar distance and that's a stiff shaft that really doesn't flex much.
Think I may trade mine in and have a complete gamble on sommet I like the look of at golf clubs for cash. Maybe one of the Titleist models or pxgs

My iron play is alright at the moment, I naturally seem to hit a draw which I'd say I hit 95% of the time, these are stiff shaft pgx 0311p gen 2s. My 7 iron carries around 130 yards, driver 200ish then whatever roll out so not sure the shaft selection is what the internet says I should be using but I can hit them generally where I want them and am happy with the flight apart from the 4iron which I can only really get in the air from the t

Also been looking at putters, I'm using a Wilson infiniti blade but as much as I hate the head over that falls off all the time I am pretty consistent with it.

3/5 wood of the ground is still an issue for me.

I hit a wedge and got it to spin back the other week, looked cool as hell although it wasn't intentional.

Generally playing has been challenging in these conditions but I've managed to at least get 9 holes in a couple of times a week. Generally score is low to mid 40s for 9 holes. Birdied the first hole last time out which was the first time too. I play of 23 and am hoping to get below 20 by summer's end.

I got fit and it was the best driver they had in on the day that suited my game on that day.

My game has changed so driver fitting is no longer suited. Watch videos of rick shields using old Vs new drivers and there's barely anything in them. Maybe get fit for a driver and buy the old model with similar shaft?
Rick also tested Wilson's new driver Vs pings new and I think the distance was the same.

Not been out for like 2 weeks now :( It's a combination of the rain (obvs) and also needing to get my old MX-5 back up and running so days like today I didn't golf even though the course was open in part to work on the car. I think also I'm becoming ever more a fairweather golfer, the thought of trudging through a boggy field just doesn't fill me with the joy it used to.

Cumberwell Park near me has been closed since the 24th of January! Not sure if it's open yet but for the networking meeting a couple of weeks back we used their new simulator setup which is very nice tbh. 8 Trackman bays inside with some pool tables, darts boards, a cafe-type bit for coffee/food etc.

Anyway, out tomorrow and also Monday, playing Chobham for the first time so that'll be fun.

I think fittings can vary massively based on both who does it and where you do it. I've had a few fittings at my local shop, they're ok as you get to try all the different manufacturers etc but they have limited shaft selection and it's much more a case of does this model at stock work well kind of thing. I've also had a fitting at the Titleist 'National Fitting Centre' at St. Ives (cambridgeshire, not the other one :p) and it was very different, obviously on the one hand it's only titleist stuff but all the shafts and also he was more willing to try stuff out, the outcome of that was a GT3 so not the more forgiving GT2 and a 9-degree head lofted up to 10.5 degree, not a setting that I think my local shop would've ever considered but it works really well for me.

I did end up with the GT3 (and I love it!) but after the Titleist fitting did go back to my local shop, they were happy to setup a GT3 as spec'd by Titleist and then I could compare it to things like the G440 and Elyte, even based off the Titleist fitting tried the LST/Triple Diamond, so was nice to verify and check against similar heads from other brands but ultimately the Titleist only fitting was top notch.

But then unless you know specifically you want a Titleist you can't really go for a Titleist fitting

If you're looking at getting a new driver though I'd say get fit, for the most part it's free (AG is just free, the Titleist was free on an offer and local shop 'charge' £25 but it's waived if you buy a club in the next week or something) and it gets you the chance to see and feel the different clubs in the flesh.

I got fit and it was the best driver they had in on the day that suited my game on that day.

Rick also tested Wilson's new driver Vs pings new and I think the distance was the same.

The issue with Rick's videos, at least the last ones I watched, is he just hits balls, and he's a decent or more specifically consistent ball striker so they do kinda just do the same thing no matter what head it is, and even age to an extent. The 'COR' basically determines distance and that's been capped since forever ago, where modern drivers have improved is in consistency/forgiveness across the face and that won't be shown in how Rick does his reviews. There's a few YT channels that specifically try to show off-centre hits, different swing speeds, etc etc to try to give a better idea but also you kinda need to either know your swing or try them on a monitor.

Also been looking at putters, I'm using a Wilson infiniti blade but as much as I hate the head over that falls off all the time I am pretty consistent with it.

I know right, those bloody head covers. I've got a Wilson Blade (Windy City so the bladiest of blades) and the Buckingham mallet, both head covers fall off constant and it's so infuriating, I'm shocked I haven't lost one yet but I have at times had to run back up the fairway to pick it up.

But they are good putters though, especially for the price, I pretty much exclusively use the Buckingham these days as although I love the blade and on a good day it's amazing on the off days which is 364 days of the year the mallet is just more forgiving.

I've made my decision.. It was easy in the end, paying £529 for a driver is insane. I can't do it. I don't care if it shaves 4 or 5 shots off. It's insane.
