Does anyone else feel this new handicap system is crazy? We've got people are our club already been called out and cut shots because it's clear as day they are dogging the system. 24 handicaps coming in with 44 points.....
It's natural that the higher handicap someone has the more variable their scores are likely to be. Do you not have divisions for your comps, a set number of qualifiers that someone has to play in first before they can win anything?

Nope had divisions a couple of years ago but they got rid of them. Really annoying!

urrghhh....

Swing is so bad....Got the two way miss going at the moment.

Played a tie tonight and got beat 4&2.... Gave away 8 shots and I was in 5 bunkers in 11 holes... All from middle of fairway - pulling one shot, then pushing the next one.... So hard to play when you have no idea where ball is going...

Struggling with a left knee injury... going to see physio tomorrow and have been wearing a knee support for the last 3 rounds.... Got a horrible feeling he's going to tell me to rest from golf/gym etc for a few weeks...

Went out for a quick 9 last night, good fun was had and trying some of the more aggressive shots on that course. Oddly I felt I was swinging really smoothly and my draw came back, the 9 iron onto the green on the 4th was a thing of beauty :) Also my new shorter driver did well too...

The today out for the networking meeting at Cumberwell Park, another really good front 9 (except the first hole, which I blobbed) and managed to hang on through the back 9 for 37, still definitely slacking on the back but at least now it's not quite so terrible...

Hit some lovely drives, sometimes hard to tell how much is in my head but hitting it well so confident so hitting it well :p

Also hit a 250 yard 5 iron  Obviously all the things lined up, downhill, downwind, firm ground etc but still... Thought I'd lost it to start with as I was looking around the 190 mark :p

Last minute change of plans today, rather than an afternoon 9 at the glorious Whitley I had the chance of playing a proper round at a proper course :p Manor House in Castle Combe, 4th time I've played it and it's a lovely place to play golf, does have a few hills though, and I mean Hills! Walked it for only the second time, was easier at least but still tough, basically 4 hills to walk up (and 3 downhills) that are just killers...

Anyway, the golf. I turned up, it's been a while :p Only slight criticism would be putting, had 20 putts on the front 9 with 3x 3 putts, 17 on the back with one 3-putt. But even with that I shot 84, +12 on a tough course and off the tees we played I got 24 shots, so that's a nice 48-point stableford hall, @JamesH85 come at me bro

Had one kinda blow up hole, triple'd the par 5 3rd hole, drive had rolled off the side of the fairway and was in a bad lie, hit a poor shot into the bunker, then took a 9iron and hit the lip, so yeah, 3 shots in and I'm maybe 300 yards down the hole... 7 wood and then chip on before a 3-putt. Thought I'd messed up the 15th trying to hit it 'too hard' and leaking two balls into a group of trees, found both though and somehow still managed a bogey.

Just everything worked, except the putting as mentioned :p But driver was mostly straight and a good distance, best was 250 I think, only had my 7 wood as a fairway but that was good too, iron shots on target and good distances, struggling to think of a duff really except that 3rd hole, even then both the 2nd shot and bunker weren't awful just could've done better to mitigate the risks...

Why can't I play like that all the time?

Well the easiest explanation is you can't play like that all the time because you're off 24 :p

However shooting a 84 while leaving loads out there is an exceptional round, definitely proves you can play off a lot lower. After all our handicaps are supposed to be your 'potential'

Well done though that's a really good scores off that handicap!

Doesn't really seem the case with WHS, if done properly (arguably I don't by no longer doing general play cards) it should be a rolling average, with a slight bias from the 'best 8 of 20', but still just a slight bit above average rather than a 'potential'...

It doesn't make sense for me either tbh, that's just what the guy said when I watched the interview with England Golf.

Great round :)

Enjoy the two shot exceptional scoring adjustment :p Be interested to know how much you come down tomorrow morning.

Ah, the joys of no longer doing general play rounds because of stupid handicap policies, my handicap won't change at all :(

Doing a comp on Monday afternoon though, but chances of me playing as well as today is unlikely.

It's also about the 4th or 5th round since I stopped general play rounds that was comfortably under my handicap index yet won't actually change my official index... Garmin reckons I'm an 18.0 though, compared to EG's 21.3.

For the lols I just did the calculation...

84 gross around that course (CR 70.9, SR 131) gives a score differential of 11.3. My current index is 21.3 so exactly 10.0 under my index means the 2-shot 'exceptional score' reduction which by my maths means my handicap would've dropped from 21.3 to 18.2!

But of course, we can't have general play rounds sullying up the real golfer metric of comp rounds for handicaps...

Argh, last couple of rounds I've been good tee to green but literally out of nowhere I've completely lost my putting stroke. Not comfortable over any putt and pretty much don't have any idea what line it's going to take.

Wed was very wet in the evening and the greens were very long and slow, this morning the greens were firm and rolling nice. Found a feeling towards the end today to stabilise and firm up the left arm a bit more and rallied a bit, but I think I'll need to arrange some coaching time.

81 on Wed and 82 today.

Came 3rd in today's stableford comp, 38 PTS. Didn't loose a ball and whilst not playing great I made sure I scored on each hole too.
Putting was a bit short on most of my puts but my chipping practise and ball striking drills have played off.

Had a shocker today, shot 85 with a couple lost balls

Struggled on every par 3 hitting an iron off the tee - the only iron I could hit well off the tee (when needed) was the 2i

Driver was decent but I just couldn't hole a putt today and finished with a measly 28 points - won't affect my handicap, but after the last 2 rounds saw me cut from 6.4 to 5.7 it was a bit disappointing

Got a tee time tomorrow afternoon with my wife and will be trying to sort my game out after today's poor round

come to the dark side...

Cack handed..... Putted like that for years now (10+) and would never go back - squares up your shoulders so much more.

Playing tomorrow in Club Champs rd 2 qualifier..... Played 12 holes practice last night - woeful again.... Pulls left / or high spinny right ball... Swing is a mess currently...

Yeah I putt kak handed the last 7-8 years as it's always seemed the most stable way for me. Putting has been automatic / point and shoot so far this year so this is a bit of a weird one, struggled massively in the 1st half of last season on the greens.

I think I'd benefit from some coaching as even though left hand low has always felt most comfortable if I look in the mirror it looks weird as anything with my left shoulder much lower than the right, needs a bit of spine tilt to have the shoulders square but it doesn't feel right almost like I'd be hitting up on the ball

Golf is a funny old game....

windy out there - didn't strike the ball great, swing was a little "better" - less of the two way miss....back to the slight fade/cut but scored well without feeling I played well if that makes sense.

Holed some good putts (31 in total) - 3 birdies, no doubles which is excellent. Missed a short one on 12 and poor from 120 yards at the last to take 4 from there. Still will take it after the last few weeks and move on....

76 less 7 for net 69.
