I played at Dunston Hall in Norwich for a golf trip with work friends, and it was so much fun.

But, I was so bad on the first day that I nearly lost all of my balls and I shot......wait for it..... 162!!!! Genuinely unbelievable how bad I am. I am still a beginner but that really made me think this game isn't for me! I shot 125 the next day thankfully. I think I need lessons.

Out today, Garmin reckoned after the round on Friday and doing nothing yesterday I still had like 50 hours of recovery to do, I'm sure golf counts as recovery right? Did I mention Castle Combe is a hard walk? :p

Somehow didn't manage to maintain the form from Friday, I think in at least some small part I talked myself into a bad round, after all no way I could do two rounds back to back is there? Shot 95 gross, +25 on a much easier course than the +12 at Castle Combe! But hey, weather was good, hit some decent shots in amongst the mess and even managed a birdie, didn't manage that on Friday :p

In other news I may have sighned myself up to what may be too much golf... Signed up for the NCG tour events are Aberdovey and Royal St. Davids on the 26th/27th May, then decided to add a couple of other rounds whilst I'm over there, then there's a society game on the Sunday beforehand, then a knockout match when I get back and the Club Champs the day after... All told I'll be playing 18 from Sunday 24th until Saturday 31st inclusive, maybe Sunday 1st too if I'm not dead by then :p Looking forward to it though :D

Good improvement though! :D

Golf is hard. End of.

My first round was a 128 but that was definitely not playing to any proper rules, or even counting all shots, so basically a complete lie. I can barely break 100 some days still and that's after 3.5 years and a whole lot of golf!

Lessons are a good starting place, and starting as a beginner is probably the best so you don't learn too many bad habits :p

I've played on and off for years, but I'm playing more recently as I actually have people to play with. Playing again on Bank Holiday Monday so looking forward to that, plus I know the course.

Also, pink balls are amazing. They're so much easier to see/find when I inevitably hit the ball into the woods :D

I really don't understand how week to week I can go from flushing everything to playing like I've never held a club before :D. That said somehow still managing to scrape round and my average score is improving, shooting 95-99 even when I can't hit the ball to save my life.

Welcome to the fun world of golf....

Been like that for 30 years playing golf... One day you've cracked it - next you can't hit a ball to save yourself!!

Went out this afternoon with my wife and another of the couples and just played 9

2 birdies, 2 bogeys and a stupid double - overall it was better than yesterday, although my irons weren't quite where I want them to be still

Unless I get to the range one evening, I don't think I will be swinging a club until next weekend now

Played a new course yesterday, Hamptworth in Wiltshire. Lovely track through the rolling countryside, very picturesque :)

For those looking to switch up their putting grip I saw a good video the other day covering all the different options.

Since becoming a member of my local back in Feb and still being quite new to golf even at my ripe old age, I've definitely seen improvements from playing more regularly. Shock horror I know. I've generally been playing the back 9 at my course and today I got round this morning before work really quick. Had the course to my absolute self minus the maintenance staff. Delightful.

Scores have been coming down from low 50s to my best ever today; 43! (par 36

I hit back to back birdies and actually looked like a proper golfer at times. After sinking my second birdie I looked around in astonishment to see if anyone...anyone...witnessed the beaut of a 20 foot downhill trickler. Nope. Even the squirrels didn't give a ****. Just a few birds squawking for me to get back in my lane and that it won't last. ;)

Out today for the monthly Medal, and it was going oh so well :p

Only 9 holes (the first comp each month is 18, second is 9, then they alter between stableford first like this month or medal first next month if that makes sense) and I basically played really solidly for 8 holes. If it was a stableford I would've had a half-way decent score but medal innit.

Got a 10 on the 9th. Sliced my first drive OB, second got lucky and was fine, couldn't go for the green with my now 4th shot (240 out, par 5) so hit a solid 5 iron up there leaving 86 yards, full sand wedge easy times, until ya thin it. Long into some thick rough, should've taken an unplayable but took two to hack it out and not even onto the green. Chipped on and 2 putt for 10.

45/+10 overall, could've been so much better. At least on the handicap it'll 'only' be a 43 I guess...
