Good news for Scotland (and the rest of us)..

Alex Salmond said she picked the wrong hill to die on with the whole transgender thing it wasn't a popular thing with the Scottish people.

I came here to say the exact same thing. It's so strange she choose this as her Hill to die on. When you alienate almost all women and big chunk of men too then you have that up hill struggle. No matter what the lentil eaters, libertards and tree huggers think. A vast majority of people don't care or actively don't agree with Gender ID. Twitter has seriously given the SJW's a distorted view of the real world.

And the whole independence dropping off a cliff is hilarious its never been stronger but then the union lovers would say that.

Actually, the independence thing has already fallen quite a bit and suspect it'll continue to do so while SNP takes time refocuses, if it has been permanently damaged only time will tell

I responded to that comment earlier with actual results to studies, and unsurprisingly he didn't reply.

Not really, the split is very much unchanged and within the normal levels of confidence.
Strangely the support for the SNP has been dropping whilst the support for Indy hasn't.
The two are interlinked but not perfectly correlated. Typically support for SNP was higher than for Indy.

Hence people objected to the "you voted SNP to support indy" line that was often trotted out.

Not sure the Scottish education system or health service would agree. She should have proved she was up to making a success of what really matters to most to convince people she could take on more with independence.

This is true. A previous boss once told me that if you want promotion then you've got to demonstrate to those with the power that you can do the job.

Sturgeon didn't do this and made a bit of an arse of much of it, focussing on something not every Scot wanted. Even less wanted or cared about her newest pursuit.

She didn’t though.

As they voted for in the referendum. Every part of Scotland, not just some, EVERY part.

Actually, one of the issues is that the SNP want to take an independent Scotland into the EU without a referendum. There are a fair few people who want an independent Scotland outside the EU.

and love the King and Queen with such enduring love they refuse to ever be split from them.

Nitpick: here you are mistaken. Many Nationalists have no problem with retaining the Royal Family. The monarchs from James VI & I to Anne were separately monarchs of England and Scotland.

She didn’t though.

Another one that doesn't understand the difference between the public agreeing with vague platitudes and an MP being faced with actually having to justify the logical conclusions of the stupid policies and laws they have just voted into action having been told consistently and in advance what the obvious issues would be and having been offered plenty of opportunity to ameliorate the issue, all of which they hubristically dismissed.

.

..Until they're independent, at which point the rush to a republic will be full speed ahead.

Nationalist politicians only say they'll keep the Royal Family as a ploy to attract 'Soft' Unionist voters.

The heart & soul of Scottish Nationalism is 'Brits out' Irish Republicanism.

Sorry, but what has this got to do my point about her not dying on the hill of the GRA?

The thread doesn't really prove that at all. This forum has more than it's fair share of right wing frothers and she certainly isn't very popular with that demographic. What this thread tells us is that English people think their opinion of Sturgeon is in any way accurate or relevant - suggesting that Sturgeon was bad news for Scotland when she presided over overwhelming electoral success is just about as false as it could be.

Sturgeon's successor will be divisive because politics is divisive.
Like I said she creates division in people and that is very clear in this thread. People assume if you don’t support her you are against her. Things aren’t that black and white. I think most people couldn’t really care less. Clearly the independence mandate has gone (see the reference about the SNP not treating the next election as a referendum) which amongst other things has triggered this. If the people that support her are happy with her performance then that’s great, glad she did good things for you. I think she was outspoken which often does create an almost cult following, but it did come with a whole hate the English and hate people that don’t want independence. She exacerbated this and hence created division.

She creates division by not being a tory sycophant to whoever is PM in Westminster. She creates division by being far more competent, well regarded and popular than any recent Tory PM as well.

She did not encourage anyone to hate the English - the Little Englanders rely on that rhetoric as it justifies their own hatred of Scots, and that's a tactic that's not exclusively employed against the Scots, they also hate the French, Germans, Argentines .. well most people TBF.

There is only really one metric to measure Sturgeon's success and that's been proven beyond any shadow of doubt over the past 8 years. Some of us are old enough to remember when Labour were invincible in Scotland; to have turned that into what the SNP have become has been simply astounding - ironically enabling Tory governments in the process. Little Englanders are so blinded by their hatred of Sturgeon that they don't realise the significance of the fact that the SNP are the third largest party in Westminster and could actually become the official opposition to Labour in the next parliament. These things would be ridiculous pipe dreams a decade ago.

The right wing press want to portray the myth that Sturgeon has been a disaster when the facts really are glaringly obvious - it's just gaslighting to suggest otherwise.

Labour still have to offer something other than not being the Tory party.
Isnt that what the biggest critics of the labour party say in England as well? Personally I dont mind Starmer (unlike Corbyn his is someone i could at least potentially vote for) but equally i think it is fair to say he hasnt really nailed that much to the wall in terms of what he would do and has already done his fair share of u turns and isnt even in power yet.
(off top of head, pushing for free movement to and from EU, renationalising royal mail, abolishing university fees he doesnt seem so vocal on those now..... what else will he not honour ?) (iirc there were 10 pledges he put in place if he gets into power not not sure i trust any of them now..... - I would have to google to remind myself exactly what they are)

Labour will always struggle without Scotland seats. Little Englander is again an example of division and hate rhetoric. A lot of supporters are of the mindset that if are not for us you are against us. If you’re not left you are right.
