Goodbye City-Link, hello DHL

Then you have been very lucky with City Link. They don't seem to be bothered with us in Aberlour even though a main trunk road runs straight through the village. See my post at #33. Still waiting too.

It's New Deer here!. Needless to say, the tracking hasnt been updated on DHL, and my package didnt show up either, absolute rubbish!. As a testament to how pathetic they are. I ordered an engine for my car off ebay, based in devon, i payed £45 for delivery for something that weighed 200kg, and i ordered at 3:00pm. It was at my house at 12:00pm the next day. So It takes less than 24 hours for an engine to come from devon to Aberdeen sticks, yet a mobo cant even come despite paying £15 for saturday delivery!!. Needless to say, i want my money back, and first thing monday morning, DHL are going to get an earful and a half!!!!

I've said this since the change was announced. DHL don't give a flying toss about anything north of Glasgow. Sometimes Aberdeen, but only on a good day. So not only have we lost free delivery, but we can't even be assured of getting the items we have to pay to be delivered.

I understand that the largest percentage of OcUKs userbase is "down south", but just because a small percentage of that userbase had problems with what I understand to be a franchised courier, they've now alienated a good percentage of Scotland by changing to an inept courier service.

A competitor that allows next day purchases up to 8pm has never failed to get things to me next day, even on orders I placed after 7pm. They will be getting my business from now on. Which is a shame, as I have never had a problem with OcUK, and it's only down to a silly choice of courier.

The better option would have been to offer both DHL and CityLink. At least then those of us who have never had problems would still get a decent service.

Today has been my first experience with DHeL.
I ordered 2 Graphics cards on new years day, they were dispatched the following day for delivery today. At 5pm I called DHeL to ask when the package was to be delivered (website said it was out for delivery), after giving the tracking number I was told that it would be with me by 6pm, well guess what - it still isn't here and also their offices just happen to close at 6pm.
Now the tracking number gives the package as 'in transit'
Thanks for having me wait around all day DHeL and then lying to me - thanks.

I tried to purchase a graphics card cooler yesterday. £15 would have been all it would cost me with the previous courier, and I could be assured it would arrive next day. How much do DHL feel I need to pay for a single cooler to get it to Inverness? £11.

I bought it from a competitor for £16, with next day delivery.

I guesss I'm in the minority though, and OcUK are making enough money from their English customers to care.

Very upset with the change to DHL here too.
I have now lost the next day option on any larger orders as DHL don't offer a next day service to NI. It's not any cheaper either. So from the point of view of a NI customer I'm paying the same for a poorer service. Not a lot of incentive to place an order is there?

I can see from this thread that others have had problems with Citylink. I guess at the end of the day it's down to your local depot and driver. The same will apply to DHL. Some will see an improvement while some will see the opposite. Unfortunately every customer this side of the water will be waiting an extra day for their new purchase.

Maybe I'm not typical of the sort of people who order from OCUK but when I finally talk get the money together for that next upgrade I'm not going to want to wait 2 days for it to arrive if I can get it sooner elsewhere. Would it be a big problem to offer Citylink as an option to those of us adversely affected by the change?

Can't keep everyone happy :(

Very true. But does it not make good business sense to keep as much of your customer base as possible happy? Within reason of course. After all it was the competitive shipping charges to NI that kept me returning to OCUK.

yes you can, have city link as an available courier option, effectively for me im now banned from buying anything bigger than ram from ocuk as know odds are ill have to go collect it myself

Well longshot maybe, but as OcUK is based in England, most of their customer base will probably be in England. As far as I understand it, DHL do cheaper and in most cases more reliable options to that area.

Agreed. DHL are probably cheaper and more reliable in England. But from looking around the forums there are a lot of people from the rest of the UK on here too. All I'm suggesting is that offering a choice of courrier at checkout would allow customers to pick whichever one works best from them. Perhaps this would overcomplicate things for OCUK or not be financially viable. It's just a suggestion after all.

whats the big deal? if a competitor offers a better service for the same sort of money then its easily enough to tip the balance

god you really got to be anal to start researching delivery times for your order that you "might" make.

OcUK now use DHL... not much you can do about it is there.

I don't know if they can use two dedicated couriers (RM dont count), I've always been under the impression they sign a contract with one.
