Spec junkies will always crave the more power...even if they don't see the extra performance in real use. For those people, happiness is like the light at the end of a never ending tunnel.

Here and now we have the software and the power. Just enjoy it.

No you don't, not really. The difference between the performance on the A8/Tegra K1 and the latest Snapdragon 801/805 devices is pretty big, night and day difference in smoothness., mostly because of the stupid high resolutions.

Don't beleive me? go and try them but I warn you, you might not want to go back.

It's like going from a HD7870 to a GTX780. :)

If I always waited for the next big jump in performance that's just around the corner I'd probably end up never buying anything.

It's already been said, but it's not every year we move over to a new ARM CPU architecture and 64bit support at the same time, we won't see this kind of improvement again for a while so buying the Nexus 6 over the Note 4 Exynos 7 isn't a smart move if you you have the choice, not an easy device to get hold off in the UK.

What do you guys do that need all this oomph? I'm happy (speed wise) with KitKat on my N5 and just tried Lollipop on my N4 and it is fine too.

Night and day my ***. Note 4 on 805 is plenty smooth for me, and that's with the added burden of Touchwiz. This should be even smoother. The whole package of the Nexus is more important than some extra FPS on a mobile game. Games that I have little interest in.

So your definition of smart choice is getting a phone based solely on it SoC? Pffft. Please.

Well what are you buying it for? the hardware, correct? It's the hardware combination that creates the whole user experience. SoC, display, camera, battery life, speakers and the package/design, these are the main things we should be looking at when buying an Android phone.

The software side is almost not even worth bringing into the equation as you can change that, unless your one of those no-root users and irrational hater of anything not stock.

We are on a site that sells high end PC components and I have to explain this, seems like common sense to me.

SoC is what we're talking about, not the rest you just added. This phone has the rest in spades but your discounting purely on the fact that the SoC isn't 64bit. Oooooh, nobody cares because the software is still ages away to make the most of it. And by that time we'll have moved on the the Nexus 6.

Stick CM11 or whatever on the Note 4 WHENEVER it comes out and then tell me how the camera compares with the TW camera. List the bugs too.

Nexus 6 marries it all in one great package. No phone is ever perfect. This one ticks the most boxes...atleast for mwa.

Yes most of us here are pc enthusiasts, but only a minority are hell bent on solely looking for extra processor performance, purely so they can rest easy at night.

Spec is not all that important. In my view its having a clean ROM. Is stock android. Its amazing how even the nexus 4 feels quicker than the S5 and the M8

Sounds like a fail to me, I currently enjoy using my LED to shine red to indicate charging, green full and (wildcard) purple to indicate charging 'from a USB port' (at reduced power) since every now and again for some reason it gets confused when using the car charger.
