It's always cheaper to buy out right...

But don't have the ready cash. So either way I am using credit of some form or another.

£549 phone
£12 GiffGaff goodybag over 24 months equals £837

No contract to compare too apart from the mentioned O2 @ £33 a month equals £792 but probably has more data etc but stuck in for 2 years, hate that.

O2 refresh lets you cancel at any time. I got my Note 4 on O2 refresh, £80 up front, £20 a month for the phone, £23 a month for 5gig (which comes down to £16 with corporate discount). The contract can be cancelled at any time and you just pay the phone off (would be £560 for the phone).

Didn't seem too bad a deal to me. Did it earlier in the year on a phone, I forget which now, paid £480 for the phone (which was over £500 everywhere) and cancelled the contract within a few days, took literally 4 minutes in online chat.

Yeah going back pre 4g it was often better to buy outright. But these days you are looking at £15 - £20 sim only. As stated buying outright at £500 and then funding that contract may not work out the cheapest

I worked out the other day that buying the phone outright and going £15 a month sim only, is virtually the exact same cost as going onto a £36 a month contract over 2 years.

My only issue is that I'm still in contract until April 2015, so I could do with replacing the phone myself and then going sim only when the contract ends. £550 is a lot though :(

I love my Nexus 5. And next year would be interested in an upgrade to the new Nexus phone.

But the nexus 6 is too big. And the nexus 7 is a tablet...

So what next?

Surely when they first conceptualized the Nexus line up, they never thought that we will make the size of the phone based on it's number in sequence?

That would mean that every year Google will release an even bigger handset.

I think the Nexus 5 size is perfect, and really hope they dont carry on down this path thinking the Nexus 6 is what people want.

It's too big to fit in ones jeans etc...

not true...

when the phone hits a certain price point and you want 4G then it can work out cheaper if you factor in the phone cost + a data plan that you will need to use with the phone.

for example

£549 for the phone

£15 sim only deal x 24 = £360

Total = £909 over two years

------------

Get this phone on £30 a month over two years you will pay £720
Get this phone on £35 a month over two years you will pay £840
Get this phone on £40 a month over two years you will pay £940

Plus cash back if you are clever

Is there any point going from Nexus 4 to Nexus 5? The 6 is way too big for my liking and I'm thinking about getting a 5 before its impossible to get. Is it worth it?

I would disagree. The Nexus5 is an upgrade on the Nexus4 in pretty much every area, especially the screen and camera which were pretty poor on the 4.

An upgrade yes but like I said unless there is something you need the nexus 4 is still a great phone. I have a 4 and 5 although the 4 sits in its box.

What colour and size memory is everyone getting?

Seriously thinking of getting the 64GB in blue? Would be my first nexus device, and my first pure Android phone? mmmmm? :p

(Would you guys like a poll added to this thread to show what everyone is buying?)

A poll would be good.

I'm going for the 64GB. For the extra £50 I think it's worth it, having no external SD card slot especially.
