On the devices I use, I do turn it all the way down but they are still too bright, especially for the wife, who's trying to sleep :D

Check out an app called Screen Filter. Logo has a gray box with orange border and at the top right there is a dark gray circle. Keeps the Mrs quiet when I'm playing on the phone at night. Apparently my initial response of close your eyes wasn't suitable..

I have read a number of the Nexus 6 reviews and what I conclude is that this display screen for a pure Android experience device is going to knock your socks off. A full day of battery life. A very good camera. A quality device at a fuller price than previous Nexus phones, that my large hands can cope with well I am sure---I have no problem with phablet-sized devices. I expect software upgrades and bug fixes promptly from Google.

Upgrading from the Nexus 5, I am convinced that once I go phablet, I will never go back to anything smaller in my pocket.

Count me in.

^^^ Agreed.

Performance from video reviews seems smooth and fast. Will only get better too.

Someone list a phone that doesn't have drawbacks!

Do you turn it all the way down?
I normally use a tablet in bed so its a non issue for me but keen to know your thoughts

Outside at night I generally turn it all the way down.
If it's particularly dark such as reading in bed or possibly in the cinema (!) I use an app called night filter. It seems to put a sort of dark overlay over the screen so you adjust how much darker to make it. I've also set it to turn it pink for dat nite vision innit when enabled :)

Now love to compare how dark and eye-saving my screen is compared to everyone else's in the dark :)

This!

When I came from an iPhone 4S to a Nexus 5 i first thought the nexus was MASSIVE but after a day or two it felt normal and now when i see an iPhone 4S I think its tiny and unusable!!

I don't think this is going to be the end of it either. I expect some one to release a bigger phone that the Nexus 6 in the next 12 to 18months.

I just think the way tech is going bigger phones are becoming the norm but whilst i say this i also think in the future we will see two versions of the same phone...one big and one not so big.

There's lots of talk going on at Reddit right now about the slow performance because of the terrible sequential write speeds. Seems there is still hope the entire thing can be fixed.

Apparently the Nexus 6 is the first device to have encryption on by default (with no dev option to turn it off) and it's causing a huge bottleneck with the write speeds (Basically the write speed is likely much much higher). So it could be that the Nexus 6 hardware is actually fine and Google just need to fix the encryption or turn it off. They figured this out by running tests on the Nexus 5 which has options to turn encryption on/off.

See the write speeds on the N5 with encryption on/off in the image below:

Hoping it's an easy fix.

This sounds very plausible , no purchase till sure tho for me.

Had my eye on the N6, I'm a bit disappointed at the battery and screen so I'm just going to wait a bit longer to upgrade and see how it turns out.

Don't we already have this with with the Samsung Mini and Sony Compact ranges?

I haven't read the reviews yet, but from briefly reading here I'm on the fence and will wait a few months till it's out on the wild and decide then.

So many conflicting reviews:

GSMArena

The display's brightness is impressive too, as is its contrast. Viewing angles are great you will be able to easily share your content with other people.

Sunlight legibility is excellent. Users will be able to view their content even in places with bright light.

Anandtech

Brightness is definitely on the low side though.

Going off all the reviews it looks like the Nexus 6 is abit of a letdown, there is a lot more negative reviews than positive.

If i was going to spend £500+ right now the Note 4 would be the much better option unfortunately.
