Bit the bullet and pre-ordered from CPW. I was going to wait until after the new year to see if contract prices dropped, but I have a sad case of shiny-new-kit syndrome :(

Reviews are starting to appear on my G+ feed from US buyers of the Nexus 6 as they have begun to receive their devices. There is one part of one review from a guy called Alvin McLendon about performance that I cite below, because we all are concerned about performance. His review states:

"Next thing I check for was performance. Especially since some people are experiencing decrease performance by the phone encryption at boot. This thing FLIES!!!!! I have yet to witness any type of stutters or lagginess people are having. This could be due to the Snapdragon 805, Quad-core clocked at 2.7 GHz, and pair off with 3GB of RAM. Every time I think Android can't get any faster I'm proved wrong. Software and speed for me gets a 10 out of 10."

Sounds good.

One thing that seems apparent with this device is how inconsistent it is with everyone having a different opinion or problem. He has seen no stutters, other people are reporting they get lag on certain actions.

Here's hoping by the time we actually get the phone google have done some work and there is another OTA.

Worryingly I've seen reports of people already seeing screen burn in, and the nexus lettering falling off.

That is reassuring. Pretty much every video I've seen show great performance. Can only get better.

Seriously doubt Motorola would reneg on its commitment to its carrier/operator partners, its lifeblood in the industry.
I have another theory about supply on the Play Store.
Moto is now owned by Lenovo and Moto has released a bunch of smartphones recently including the Moto X 2nd edition, the Droid Turbo, etc. I note on Cyber Monday, Moto is helping to clear stock of the X with a big discount, at least in the US.
Lenovo may be playing the supply management game here, keeping stock as low as possible on the Nexus while it is clearing earlier phone releases. Sensible supply chain management. Lenovo wants to get to the day where Moto is a profit centre sooner than markets expect.

If so, I understand their logic. But it is very frustrating for its customers.
