Google Pixel 7/7 Pro & Pixel Watch

Now that people have had their 7 Pros for a while what's the general consensus? My 6 pro is still going strong, and I'm tempted to wait until october to see what's in line (not sure if I want a foldable...) but also tempted to upgrade if it's deemed stable and working well.

I'm really liking mine, as much as when I got my Sony Xperia XZ Premium all those years ago.

Things I like:
  • Fingerprint sensor has been very reliable, even when my finger isn't perfectly clean.
  • Cameras are excellent with decent editing options.
  • Battery has performed much better than expected as well.
  • The WiFi to 5G glitch appears to have gone away.

I just migrated from an ageing Samsung S10e to a Google Pixel 7 I got for a good price and holy crap, such a big step up in overall performance and features!

I have to give a BIG shout out to the voice typing which is is blowing my mind. I HATE typing on screens and this Pixel 7 assistant typing allows me to dictate with a really high level of accuracy, meaning I barely need to touch my screen to type messages. Love it.

The camera is also really nice. :)

March update is out if you've missed it guys, just shy of 500Mb.
Thanks, just updated this morning.

Google Assistant bug still happening on mine. Can't use voice commands without it needing a download which won't download... Works fine in the car on Android Auto though. Strange..

This has got to be the slowest install yet! Over an hour and not even reached halfway and I need it to hurry up so I can use the bank payment authenticator app grrrrrrr
The update installing shouldn't effect you being able to use the phone.

I am looking for a new android and have been looking at the pixel 7 Pro for the last few months (!), I am coming from a P30 Pro which I have had for circa 3yr. I was initially concerned about the increase in size but having compared them in the Vodafone, it seems minimal. Generally feedback on here seems positive, any other handsets I should concider or be aware of?

I will be prepared to be shot down however totally honest coming from a P30 Pro you will see minimal benefit - I came from a Mate 20X and I would say it was / is a better handset than the Pixel 7 Pro

Depends what you're looking for in a phone. If camera the Pixels offer a more natural look but I do know some prefer the way Huawei processes their photos. You also may need to consider replacing the Huawei charger with USB-PD chargers if you want fast charging, Huawei's SuperCharge is proprietary and only works with their phones, with other phones it'll drop to a slower 10W charging speed. That said the 7 Pro only goes up to 23W via USB-PD.

Pixel Stand 2 is being far too loud tonight. I often hear the fan which isn't so bad, but the intermittent whining is annoying. After 6 hours my P7P has charged to 88% too. Seems low..

I'd assume I've got a poor unit but it seems others online have same issue. Not sure why such an expensive charger needs to be so poor when the aftermarket ones are quieter and charge to full overnight.

Why did you buy one?

Why did you buy one?
Because it's the official Google product so thought it would be most compatible and charge quickly. Also like the stand idea especially for sunrise alarm.
Not sure why at 88% it showed a message stating full charge would be around 6am. That seems really slow even on quiet mode. Then when I replaced the phone on the stand it anticipated full charge in just minutes. Still in quiet mode apparently. Maybe just a glitch/fault tonight but it's quite poor for an expensive OEM product.

It uses a wireless charging standard, any wireless QI charger is compatible. Just get one of the best reviewed fast charging ones from Amazon, which are usually £10-£20, and Bob's your uncle.

Do you have an alarm set? Could it be due to this https://9to5google.com/2020/12/29/pixel-adaptive-charging/

That's probably it thanks, I'll disable it and see how I get on.

Edit: It appears I am not the only one experiencing this - https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/s7pykp/pixel_stand_gen_2_is_way_too_loud_at_night/

5yr old P20 Pro > Pixel 7 Pro am I going to see a fair leap in performance and camera quality? Battery life on my P20 Pro isn't great and the battery has already been replaced once. Doesn't generally bother me as I'm never far from a charger.
Looking at deals it's around £980ish for 2 years, with 250gb data thrown in.
