Google Pixel 8/8 Pro & Pixel Watch 2

Can't believe I'm taking this long choosing a case like jesus christ.

I think Ive settled on the Rugged Armor but a review on Amazon said "Has a nice matte rubberised finish on its back with textured edges - for reasonable, predictable, grip. No gimmicks. You'll need to buy a screen and lense protector separately."

So the rugged armor doesn't protect the screen or lense? Isn't that the whole point i.e. if you put it face down the case should protect the screen etc?

There is a small lip to the case, which means that if you put if face down the screen isn't resting on the surface of whatever you put it on (same with the camera bar). So in that sences it does offer some protection for the screen and the camera lenses.

But, this won't protect the screen from micro-scratches from being in your pocket or a bag with something that can scratch the screen. The case I think is mostly to protect the phone from damage from being dropped. So it should lessen the risk of the screen cracking or shattering if you drop it. I've dropped all of the phones I've had in Spiggen cases from quite a height a number of times, and never had the screen crack or shatter (unlike several peope I know who don't use cases for some reason...).

I got a Ometon screen protector as well as the case just to be sure nothing scratches the screen.

Don’t over think it too much. Just get the case and screen protector and you will be sorted.

I ordered the Spigen Liquid Air and also the L+K Tempted Screen protector kit.

Spigen Liquid Air Case Compatible... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CL8T5YNP?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

LK 2+2 Pack for Google Pixel 8A... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0D1YB4BJ7?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Hopefully my pixel order will come on Monday.

Observations from a few days of Pixel 8 (switched from S10 Lite), mainly just getting set up so far:
- P8 gets hot, while charging, and while processing anything. S10L didn't at all. Main disappointment so far.
- P8 had easy set up, basically just the google account and off you go, much easier than with Samsung.
- P8 having stock android is amazing. Avoiding Samsung bloat was a main reason I chose P8 (instead of S24FE probably) but I didn't realise just how much bloat there was.
- P8 is quite a bit smaller, but feels heavier somehow, it's quite a bit thicker. They are the same weight, I weighed them. It fits better in my pocket.
- P8 being smaller makes quite a big difference to text size, text is tiny. Chrome has settings to change text size but they don't change this forum. Tried Firefox but same issue. I'll have to get used to it. Edit: Found the display size setting, zooming in a notch makes everything bigger, including the forum text. Guess I'll be using my phone in grandpa mode.
- P8 official case is excellent. I'm usually a naked phone guy but I'll try to get 7 years out of this to make the most of 7 years of software updates so I'm taking extra care of it.
Further observations after a few weeks of ownership:
- Fingerprint reader often fails, sometimes I give up and enter PIN.
- Battery life is excellent, I'm a light user and easily get 2 days. Hopefully it should still comfortably last a day after 7 years of degradation.

I don't miss the fingerprint reader at all since I started using the face unlock. All my banking apps allow face unlock to be used. Sometimes I have to use the fingerprint reader and like you say it doesn't always work.

For those who recently ordered their Pixel 8a via EE on that stonking deal. Or 8 or 8 Pro via EE . You can claim some freebies shortly, only if you ordered on the 2nd Aug.

Details below

That's interesting. I purchased a Pixel 8a on I belive the 31st July but it didn't ship (I got the email "Your order's left our warehouse") until 2nd August. What are the chances of me being able to claim this one. I would think zero. I was thinking it might be because this is when they stopped the student bean deal, but it wasn't. That was still running over the weekend as well. Seems a bit harsh to people who bought a day or so before as the price did not change at all?

What date shows on the invoice?
As I understand that is what they request for proof.
