Google Pixel 8/8 Pro & Pixel Watch 2

I'll clarify.... I'm on EE and they have different tiers of 5G Speeds. 25Mbps, 100 and then no cap. I'm on no cap.

I won't get 5G speeds if my 5G is disabled.

And in regards to Lebara, I don't know if they're capped. I'd be surprised if they aren't at that price.
Did a test yesterday and today, two different areas, both indoors with 2/4 signal strength.

203 down/10 up
161 down/1.5 up

Doesnt appear to be a cap on downloads, although upload speeds seem a bit low. Will try and test outdoors and on better signal.

On lebara?

EE now... I just did a quick test at home

222 down and 11 up. Uploads hover around 10 to 30.
Not great at all.

Best I've had at home is 481 DL.

Intregued by this, my Pixel 5 is still the best phone I've ever owned, its still faultless in operation for my uses but its getting closer to the unsupported for updates age now so the 8 might be my next phone. I have been tempted by the 7 a few times when its hit £450 but I've procrastinated so long the 8 is nearly here
Exactly this. Last month of updates for all of us on the 5. Very disappointing as I've got no desire to spend more money on a phone, so custom ROM it's looking like for me.

its very annoying, the 5 hardware is still perfectly capable, its just poor forced obsolescence behaviour by tech companies to sell you more stuff. I used to like tinkering and sideloading various roms etc but these days I just want the stock clean experience.

Just checked out of interest, the black 7 can be had for £389 now, thats a decent price for that handset .

Uploads will be low since all networks are using 5G NSA (Non Standalone), so uploads and a few other things still rely on 4G/LTE. Should improve when everything is upgraded to true 5G (5G SA) next year.

To be fair, 3 years is good, and even then, after that date, your last update will get you more time before it's considerably out of date.

Like you say, the 7 can be had for cheap. Google will hardly be winning by forcing an upgrade from 5 to 7, or potentially to another brand/OS.

Out of interest, how long does apple support their older phones? I understand its a rather impressive amount of time?

Google have updated their policy from Pixel 6 onwards to a minimum of 5 years of updates. I appreciate that doesnt help you however, at least they have improved

Could the increase in time be to do with Google now "owning" the full chipset i.e. Tensor whereas the older models had someone else's chipset and, therefore, couldn't guarantee updates beyond 3rd year?

Its interesting to me though cos if I plump for a 7 or wait for the 8 I know I'll have 4 /5 years of updates ... didnt know that before

Yeah, they changed it from the P6 onwards.

As I say, It makes me wonder if it was more to do with the previous model chipsets not being Google's own so they were at the mercy of the supplier's support period which may have been 3 years. Now that they own their own chipset from P6 onwards (Tensor), they can set the support period themselves.

It would be really nice if they offer a good trade-in when the 8 launches, but I doubt it!

Even better, make the 8a no bigger than the 5
