Google Pixel 9 Series (9/9 Pro/9 Pro XL/9 Pro Fold & Pixel Watch 3)

Also, after I ordered online I then had to phone them (order confirmation email tells you to). 50 minutes on hold and then another 30 minutes going through the contracts again.

Get excited, the Pixel has "hold for me" - You push a button while you're on hold and then your phone will start ringing when someone picks up on the other end. Its one of the main features that keeps me tied to Pixel.

Seriously, there seems to be a massive oversight with the trade in options on multiple retailers websites? Nowhere except the Google store has the original Pixel Fold as an option in the trade in list? Not EE, not mobiles.co.uk and neither do Carphone Warehouse. Yet you can trade in an OG Pixel Fold from 8 years ago...

Comparing the models, the P9 Pro XL is almost identical to the P8 Pro that I have. The only difference I could see was the front camera being increased from 10.5 MP to 42 MP - and I don't take selfies!

This isn't a criticism, I'm actually well chuffed that I'm getting another year at least from my P8 Pro and I have to say it's one of the best handsets I've owned. If the P9 is just a slightly refined version of the P8 then it's a great buy for someone coming from a later handset - however the early adopter tax is still huge with Google, and the people picking up P8's right now are getting the real deals - I'll be looking at P9 Pro prices this time next year as I might fancy going slightly smaller. :)

Normally on a pixel release there are loads of posts saying what people have pre-ordered. There is a slight lack of that with this release. I always look forward to reading what people have bought.
Is it the price or just not worth the upgrade from their current phone I wonder ?

If you have an 8/8 pro then there is literally zero reason to upgrade, cameras are essentially the same, battery is the same, screen is 0.1" bigger on the Pro XL than last year's pro.

The processor is less than 10% quicker than the G3....

Between the minimal changes and this release being mostly about AI which people generally don't care about along with a pretty hefty price increase there's not much incentive to change.

Also next year the chips are rumoured to be much better so I expect most are holding out for them.

Its more expensive than the 8pro and virtually the same phone. The sensible buyer would get an 8pro if they wanted an upgrade from an older phone. Unless they really have a need for a better front camera.

If you already have an 8, then I can't see the justification? I doubt even when the 10 comes out it'll be worth it over the 8?

As others have said, it's mostly Pixel enthusiasts in this thread, and they already bought this phone a year ago. :)

Gemini, I mean I genuinely don't know what I would use that for; I don't even use Assistant.

S23/S24 user
  • High price
  • Launch incentives are poor
  • Trade-is poor
  • Historical high depreciation
  • Still big and heavy compared to the S24
Overall, let's see what deals are available over the next six months, but I suspect Samsung will tempt me with the S25 next January (free watch, 10% discount, double storage, big trade-in, birthday code, 10% code etc)

I agree with all the reasons in the replies. For me it seems that upgrading every 2 years is the sweet spot with Pixels, I did miss a 2 year change with the Pixel 4 because the 2xl was such a good phone. 2xl>6(non pro)>8 Pro. I wanted the telescopic zoom so I went with the pro this time.

I will challenge that and say I think 3 years really is a nice spot.

I went with a 3XL on release, then went over to the 5 when the 6 got released as I wanted a smaller phone and got a greta deal on it.

I was really excited to get the 9 Pro after I went hands-on with it in a shop and saw it wasn't much difference in size from my Pixel 5. But the value just isn't there for me.

I really like the look of Gemini Live, but is that going to stop working after the free year of Gemini Advance, I don't know?

I really do like the Pixel exclusive features like Direct My Call and Hold For Me, I think they are fantastic. but I really am looking at other option like the OP12. yes a bigger phone than my Pixel 5 but it will last for years with the Snapdragon Gen 3.

Just had a play on the P9P Fold in John lewis. It's actually a lot nicer in person than the renders/images show online, the hinge isn't anywhere near as obnoxious looking.

Preferred it to the Galaxy Z fold 6 that was next to it.

I'm disappointed that they've changed the aspect ratio of the new fold. I much preferred the look and feel of the old form factor.

It's hard pass for me in its current state.

I thought the same and always preferred the galaxy Z fold 6 but after playing on both I definitely prefer the P9P Fold, it's nice having the full size screen on the front.
