Google Pixel 9 Series (9/9 Pro/9 Pro XL/9 Pro Fold & Pixel Watch 3)

Trade in price for my admittedly 3 year old, maybe 4 year old from release Galaxy S20 FE 5G is.... £60. I suspect I'll be just going for either a Galaxy S24 or a Pixel 8 Pro. Undecided as yet but the 8 Pro XL is £27pm whereas the S24 5G also comes with Buds2 Pros and is £23pm.

Samsung have been doing either £300 or £200 trade-in on ANY S phone recently

RRP for the Pixel 9 will be £750 with 128GB and £894 with 256GB

The Pixel 9 Pro will be £914 with 128GB, £1,094 with 256GB

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold will be offered with 256GB for £1,670 and 512GB for £1,850 (!!!)

Any reason you missed out the Pro XL...

The Pixel 9 Pro XL's normal pricing will be £1,022 with 128GB and £1,202 with 256GB. You can pay £1,022 to get 256GB in the pre-order period, or pay £1,130 to get 512GB, which after September 3 will cost £1,310. Or, get the 1TB model for £1,238 vs. £1,562 post pre-orders.

The 512GB and 1TB pre order prices are actually decent.

This does seem like a massive hike and I have no interest in "AI" features. I was hoping the 9 256GB would be my next phone, I have an 8 currently but do not get on with it, wish I'd never upgraded from my 5 tbh. Plan was to trade the 8 in and stomach the difference, but looks like it may be too rich for my blood.

If you don't like the 8, why would you like the 9?

It will feel pretty much identical.

Looks like there's no free watch or buds this year.

Seems they're following the rest and doing minimal changes for a quick rehash and slapping the price up each year :(

Time to vote with my wallet I think.

I'm also hoping the watch is a big improvement. Mainly in the battery department.
Battery is rumoured to be 24h still but with improved charging speeds.

If true, that's disappointing. I've enjoyed my Pixel watch but the battery life is the one thing they've needed to sort, especially when the competition can get ~week from each charge.

Pricing does seem steep, especially for the models with more storage . 256gb should be the minimum for a 2024 'flagship' grade phone if they can't be bothered to put a micro SD card slot in (such a weird situation that you have to buy a mid range phone like a Samsung A55 if you want micro SD because the flagships have all dropped it).

I'm not in the market for a new phone atm but keeping an eye on what's around out of interest and for a couple of family members that might want to upgrade soon. Hope google have improved the battery life on the pixel 9 series, as that seemed like the biggest complaint most people had about the 8 series.

Adding up £150 cashback and the £300 S series trade-in (s24+ and s24 ultra only I think) can get the S24+ for £450 if you have access to the employee rewards (EPP) scheme, or £500ish if not (if it's your first Samsung app purchase and ypu use the 5% off code) which seems like a slightly more reasonable price for that upgrade. Shame you have to faff around with trade-in and cashback to get it though!
