Google Pixel and Pixel XL

At this price point nothing should be off the cards. Everyone likes a clean, sleek design but not at the expense of usability like the S8 with its curved and long screen making it tricky grip with tiny side rails.

Exactly, we've not had best of both yet, but a lot of it is user preference.

I've gone from the S7 Edge to the Pixel XL. Granted the Pixel XL is not as aesthetically pleasing as the s7 edge, it is much more practical to use due to it's design.

S7 Edge owner here. I think a lot of Samsung fans are blinkered if they don't think that the design of the Edge phones is anything more than form over function, and I agree it's not practical to use. Surprisingly for a phone this size I ended up putting a chunky Spigen Tough Armour case on, not just for protection, but also the fact that it pads the edges out and makes it easier to use.

In all honesty, if I thought I could swap my S7 Edge with a Pixel XL without it costing me much then I'd be seriously tempted, but the Google stuff is seriously pricey still.

^^ Me too.

I've been toying with the idea of swapping my S7E for a PXL for a while now. But the cost involved is a bit much....

When can we expect the new Pixel? October/November time?

You may find the thread I started on Pixel 2 helpful. Bottom line: lots of rumours about hardware and software and timing and number of Pixel 2's to be launched. Some say two, some say three. Timing later this year but precise date not known yet.

Anyone had any issues with push notifications? Seemed to be getting all notifications as normal for the first few days of having this phone, however they are now delayed by like 4-5 hours, at times none come through!

Checked battery optimization settings and turned off specific apps from going into doze, will see how it pans out but for last few hours still no notifications from apps that I know should be pushing them.

My Pixel XL developed screen burn in issues around the navbar. As I purchased it from EE I went to them first, they just laughed in my face so I opened a support case with Google. They agreed it was an issue so I sent it back and expected a refurb phone in a plain box a la Apple. I was very surprised to receive a brand new phone with all the accessories so now I have spare USB cables and charger. I'm very happy with their service but I do think that phone shops should accept returns for faults not caused by the user and replace them there and then.

Have for the first time ever got a small chip and now a scratch on my Orzly tempered glass cover on Pixel XL... not really sure why it happened ... never have coins and keys etc... but still its there.

Anything better ? Must admit I read about the matrix effect on it .. never really bothered me but have since got a Daydream VR which affects it a bit... not a deal breaker but its there.

Anybody got anything better to recommend or just get another?

TIA

I mentioned previously on here I got the G Color protector from the rainforest for £5.99 and it's been great. It comes in a pack of 2 with all the kit you need to do the job. Unfortunately the first one was off within a couple of weeks but this was entirely my fault. I managed to chip it the first day it was on (which is quite lucky in some ways because the screen would have got it only for it) and then with me poking at it for a week or so after it never really set. The second one has been on ever since (around 8 months) and it hasn't budged. Great protector with no smudging or blurring or any other downsides that I have encountered.

ended up ordering the G Color and a Tate Guard one - certainly comprehensive instructions and tools for the G Color... managed to get 3 specs of dust still - but can't be bothered to take it off for now.. but for the price, im impressed.

Annnnd after five months my Pixel 128GB has died.

Had a couple of reboots this morning, on the third one it refused to turn back on.

I can either get a full refund from Currys/PCWorld outlet, or go through the RMA with Googl (Providing they offer me it)

Was looking at the OP5, little bit dissapoited. S8 is a little tempting :/

Has anyone had experience of poor voice quality on phone calls? For the last few months more and more people I speak with complain that it's a bad line or I sound distant on the phone. My wife is on 3 (same as me), but on iPhone 7 and can make calls to the same people, same place as myself without any issues.

Google support suggest booting the phone into safe mode and trying to phone again.

Yeah it's annoying! My tip is to do it in a steamy room, a bathroom with a hot shower or bath running always did the trick for me, it kills all the dust in the room.

I think coming from a Pixel you'd find the software a pain in the backside on the S8, from what I've watched on reviews for the anyway.

I love how simple my Pixel is and that it just works (cliche). Little things like the camera being super quick to boot from being locked makes using it such a pleasure. Maybe just get another Pixel!

If you're offered RMA by Google it's a really easy process. They send you a new phone out via next day delivery and you keep that and send the old one back.

I'm enjoying my Pixel XL but also tempted by the shiny shiny that has been released recently. Thing is, I had an S7E last year and the hardware was great but the software was laggy and stuttery. The Pixel just doesn't seem to get to that stage. It just runs and runs and runs and is always fast and responsive.

He won't get that service as he did not buy from play store. He will need to send the phone in and they will replace with refurbished
