Google Pixel and Pixel XL

What a day!

DPD driver - what a ****. Supposed to be delivered around 12.30 midday. Say's no one was home and takes a picture of a door that's not even mine and I was out side cleaning my car at the time too.

So I call DPD customer service (20 min wait) and the driver says he will delivery after his last deliver around 6pm...surpise surprise...no show.

I had to collect from the DPD depot in the end at 8pm.

I get home and open it up....Oooh free £50 Google play voucher! Nice...But...Hmmm this feels a bit small. It not an XL but the regular Pixel...Facepalm.

On the phone to EE for an exchange and the chap is happy to processs but the exchange team is unreachable. So I have to call tomorrow.

This has been my Google Pixel day - not a good sign is it. Definitely the worst order/delivery experience I've ever had. I'll be keeping that Play voucher when the 5" goes back!!

The phone itself is quite nice in the flesh but nothing special at all. The Black is a sort of dark grey colour which is a bit sucky. Vol up and down button feel equal (that's info for you Gigabit).

Which model if you don't mind me asking?

I went with

Google support:
Needed to request a phone call from Google Pixel phone support today and service was superb. Anyone else have similar experience? I did notice that for hardware support in US and Canada, Google has an interesting same day repair service for walk-ins and wonder if they might bring a similar service here? They have partnered with UBreakiFix with 250 retails stores in the US and Canada who charge $ 129 (approx £ 100) for Pixel screen repair same day and $ 149 for Pixel XL screen repair same day. It's $79 for either device for charging port failure and the same for a battery replacement. If you need your device same day, this is worthwhile.

I noticed that the Daydream VR Headset is now up on the Google Play Store for £ 69.

Are you suggesting people would pay for warranty work?

I've got that case kona and it's good. Perfect fit and the area around the fingerprint sensor is grippy so the phone is good in the hand :)

Not a great fit here - Since I have an XL case but not the XL Pixel :o:p

What do you think of the phone? I'm really not that impressed given it's astronomical price. Camera seems excellent so far though.

Far too many smartphone owners who have to send a phone back to a manufacturer to get a repair under warranty have to wait a while before they get their phone back. Some manufacturers are really bad. Many people do not have a second phone to use while waiting on the repair. If you cannot afford to wait then a same day service is worth it for many folks. Not every local shop has the parts available. Google has determined it seems that there is a need for the same day service for Pixel phones they are offering by this particular third party with 250 retail shops in the US and Canada.

I guess another example might also be a Company which pays for your phone. They know you depend on that phone and would be prepared to pay for same day service.

Hopefully it is not a service I will need in the near future!

How about they open up walk in stores like Apple where you walk out with a new handset due to a fault...since you know, they are charging Apple prices.

Sadly I think for premium brands, this price is at least the new normal (viz Pound Sterling weakness).

And yes, I am very impressed. I think it is a big step up from my Nexus 6.

For those thinking that the Pixel is really a clone of an HTC model, I found iFixit's tear down comment today of interest: "there is almost zero evidence of this phone’s HTC manufacturing origin.” Also, like with the Nexus 5X, most of the internal components are modular and can be replaced independently, which iFixit applauds.

By the way, I found this Support Page from Google for getting the most out of the current Google Assistant software really helpful. I hope AndyCR15 also finds this one helpful as he asked about Assistant a couple of days ago:

Yesterday at 9:40am I got an email from Carphone Warehouse telling me the phone had been dispatched. No emails today saying it's in... I went down to the shop on the off chance, but they've not had any deliveries today. They only had the Pixel in stock, not the XL :(

She tells me Brent Cross have 8 XL's in stock, so I head there... nope! They say try the Three shop... young lady in there had never heard of a Pixel

So, what are my chances it gets delivered to CPW tomorrow? Lady in the shop said it's likely Monday now. :(

Having used front and back I like back expect when its at a desk. For everything else it just feels better. my finger naturally rests there, were as I have to stretch my thumb for a front finger print scanner then move my thumb back for the touch screen.

Looks better on the back but works better on the front IMO.

Double tap to wake would have been nice instead of pressing the power button when lying on a desk to input pin/pattern. And I miss the long press on the fingerprint sensor to lock the phone on the OP3.
