Google Pixel and Pixel XL

I prefer the properly black front glass of the iPhone, it lets the display+sensors fade into the front when off to give that cool monolith look. But on the pixel it just looks bad.

And the iPhone has a nicer/bigger curve to the 2.5D glass too. On the pixel you can feel the metal edge when you roll your finger off the glass as the screen is not raised and curved enough.

Google could have definitely done a lot better on that front (and the back as well tbh), I can get over the pointless big chin but they could have done a better job with making it more "black"/sleek looking. Nexus 4 and nexus 5 front design looked great.

You have your views, I have mine and i have both phones in front of me. The only standout feature on the Pixel is the camera IMO.

The overall package is a good one, but other than the camera nothing is really standing out to me when you consider the £819 my phone RRP's for!

It's a classic industrial design, hence why some say it's an iPhone clone. So many phones now have a bling look to them especially the Samsung phones or the Samsung wannabe's. It's so refeshing to have a premium phone with a clasdic design in Androids camp. A phone should be an all round package not just a spec sheet, at least that's what's on my list.

What and call it the Google naff phone? The Nexus phones were no beauties IMO.

It doesn't need to be bling to look good. OP3 is not flashy but the tapered back, shiny chamfered edges and all black front make it look sleek and slender.

For me the overall phone design of the Pixel is fine, I would have preferred a proper black front glass, drop the bezels by a few millimeters, make the 2.5D glass more curved and have front facing speakers.

That's enough from me on the design - I've said my piece and I'll get over it.

Thanks :)

Personally I feel the build quality is on par with the Samsung devices. I would still be agreeing you've got to be quite a big pure Android fan to justify the price tag, but I have no regrets at the moment.

This one has me puzzled. If the build quality is on a par with an iPhone then why is the Pixel an expensive phone yet no one blinks an eyelid when stumping up for the iPhone?

Because there is not just one premium phone in the Android space is there? They are many and they start for a lot less £££.

I have to say this phone just flies through everything. Spotify - an app that I've never found to be that smooth or fast on Android - is as smooth as butter.

I also find the speaker to be decent too. Sure it's not stereo speakers but it matches my iPhone 6s I would say.

Galaxy, HTC, LG, now I'm struggling. Sony have given up any claims in that area these days, sadly. All these brands are at a similar price point.

OP3 looks the part but when examined closely it's not, plus it only comes in the one size which is to large for many.

I generally think it's tough to justify the price of an iPhone and I think there are plenty of others that would agree tbh.

I'd kinda like a nice dock if anyone sees one.

**EDIT** Also, what are the requirements for a car charger? 3 Amps, right? 5V?

Out of interest, how many views are required for you to recoup the cost of the phone?

It can vary, but looking at some numbers now, between 400,000 and 1 million perhaps?

Annoyingly, I have a video that has 1.75m views (S2 unboxing on my previous channel) but YouTube weren't so quick to give out 'Partner' status and I missed most of the monetisation. :(

Not the most exciting video, infact I've not bothered filming them since the start of the year, but thought I wanted to raise, for me, another positive of the device.

I know some will think I'm mad, but I don't need stereo front facing speakers. I need a loud speaker with decent sound, and the Pixel XL has this.

It passes my kettle test too (can I hear my podcast while the kettle is boiling) which not many devices can pass.

I guess for me it reaffirms this really is a top end device. All components appear to be very good ones, down to small details like the speaker.

I also assume the gyro is better than any others in a phone as the video stabilisation really is unbelievable. I guess this is what will allow it to do the whole VR thing too. (Samsung needed to use a gyro in the headset as I assume their phone gyro's weren't accurate enough. If you've used cardboard with a regular phone after Gear VR then you'll know what I mean.)

What exactly are you on about? OP3 generally gets rave reviews

Regarding the vibration motor on this phone, it's a bit too strong. Using swiftkey and the lowest setting for vibration is still too strong, not had this problem on any other phone and it's normally very adjustable using swiftkey when typing. Samsung has a setting for vibration strength but this does not.
